I think it's obvious that 7-9 is just the first of a series of sequel trilogies and I'm not especially happy with this. I want the Star Wars saga to have a beginning, middle and an end, not just be a run of a mill summer blockbuster franchise that gets sequeled to death.

The more of Episode VII I see, the less I believe it will have deep connective tissue to the arc of the first six episodes. Instead, I think Episode VII will start a 6-film arc in much the same way Episode I did with Darth Vader. In that sense, Episode VII really could be considered a "reboot" after all: it's treating the previous 6 films as "myth" as a jumping off point, but re-shaping the conflict and introducing a completely new set of heroes/villains with different motivations under different circumstances.

I don't think the saga we all know and love will suffer in any way. It does have a beginning, middle and an end - and that's it; it's done. I believe what happens with TFA is birth of a new Star Wars saga - if you excuse an agricultural metaphore, J.J. took seeds of the old saga and intends to grow something new, which, in my opinion, is great. Moreover, I believe this is birth of new SW SAGAS, plural.

Because Rogue One may start a brand new storyline (with Death Star plans stealing plot being just a springboard for new characters). The same goes to Boba Fett and Han Solo flicks. And I'm not against it, at all, as long as the stories are compelling and the spirit of Star Wars is there. Let it sprawl. The story of father and son is over but, just like in the real world, the universe goes on.

Have some faith, CoGro, they are building on a solid foundation.

If the acquirement of all things Star Wars by Disney has taught me anything it's:

As long as they don't mess with any Ep1-6 characters (i.e bring Vader/Emperor back) or retcon that timeline in any way I'm happy for them to provide more stories from a galaxy far far away.

Really? I honestly don't think so. I think that's where the 'Anthology' (now 'Story') movies come in.

I see your point to a degree, but it's likely going to happen. And given the size of the Star Wars Universe, maybe it can take that.

Genuinely - I think exactly the opposite. I'm delighted at how much seems new but familiar - a real feeling of 'next chapter' for me.




How can you say it's treating the previous 6 as myth when you've not seen it? And it has our favourite heroes in it? I agree it's a new jumping off point to a degree, but it's keeping the best of the past and giving us 'a new hope' too (wocka wocka, bad pun.) I mean, I love Harrison Ford as Han and Indy, but the guy is 73. If we want more of this, there has to be change, to a certain degree.

I've heard a lot of people saying "Booo!" to the idea of bringing back Palp or Vader - but this is a universe that had a massive clone army. If Kylo Ren is hunting for all those artefacts - why? And they just might have DNA...

If any or all of this is done right - it will be worth it. If it's not, we'll hate it. Time will tell, but for now? I have faith.
