Actualy you should press it. I was trying that backwards psychology trick on you. You know, I say, you can do everything except for one single thing and you get suspicious and curious and do it to check out, what happens. Don't you have any sense of adventure?

You should stop uploading and try, what you can do with, what you've downloaded. Believe me nothing can go wrong.... unless of course you press 'cancel' or something like that.

And remember, don't despair if you'll have to restart your computer or something. Such things happen.

Oh hell, does someone just want to trade me a good copy of the DVD? I've got some pretty sweet rare stuff I can offer as trade bait(several things on DVD that have never been released, also a pretty sweet hockey fight tape that's about 2 hours of the best toe-to-toe fights out there.) Plus I promise to trade it on once I get it.

EDIT: Nevermind. I've got it.

I don't know, what you've downloaded, how much do you know about using your computer at all or if I could help you even if I knew all the details you can tell me. You'll have to find the information you need by yourself. In this forum or elsewhere. Search and read, rarely ask others for help unless you have already a good idea what you want (for everything to work is to vague). I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun too.

try installing the xvid codec, or re-installing it if you have done so already.

Seriously, friends what codec do I need to download to get sound on my realplayer, WMP, or DivX player?

try this... http://hellninjacommando.com/defilerpak/

also, VLC I just checked out the other day, and it wasn't too bad...I try the core media player, bg media player, and lastly WMP play if it doesn't work, but I've now added VLC to my list as well....the above codec should give you audio though.

Thanks, Faid! (I just read your post about this on the first page in the other thread.)

Works great now.

Edit: flaxer and Faid. Fast and informative. Thanks.

Well, without anything else to go on, my first guess would be that you DIDN'T "make another two copies Identically to the way I made them before." Double check your process. It kind of sounds like you may have simply copied the VIDEO_TS folders to your discs as though you were burning data discs -- and while computers will read those just fine, most DVD players won't.

OK, wait a second. What do you mean, "made a duplicate"? Did you use the original source files that you used to make the first one, or did you just copy the one that you already made?

OK, I don't use Nero, so that's the best I can do, sorry. I do think that if something were seriously wrong with your computer, though, you wouldn't be able to burn a disc at all.

I’m a complete and total newbie at downloading movies from newsgroups (and I won’t do it through a torrent at all).

I need specific information about downloading the files from EasyNews.

I am downloading the KKi version (based on your Divx thread that this was the best copy so far).

How many of the files do I include in one zip download? I have been downloading each file separately because I thought that large zip files were impossible to unzip – no matter which unzip utility you use. Each file is 47.7MB before zipping and downloading. So far I have downloaded 12 of the 92 parts listed on EasyNews.

Also, they have PAR files listed. Do I need to download those as well?

I use xnews and have never used the one you mentioned, but here is what I did. I downloaded all the par files, which were numbered sw3a.r00(remember this file as it is 1 of the 2 most important files) through sw3a.r48 then there was another set sw3b.r00(the other important file to remember) through sw3b.r48. Download all of those files, when they are finished choose a folder to extract files to and use winrar to extract ONLY files sw3b.r00 and sw3a.r00

after that there will be 2 files in the folder you chose to extract to that if you download something like VLC player you will be able to watch them on, or you can burn them to DVD

Not that I advocate anything like this, and I am by no means well-versed in newsgroups, DIVX, rar files, un-compression, etc... but I noticed one day that just by clicking my mouse in this special sequence, something amazing happens. I'm sure that like any receipe, you can substitute the ingredients with others of your choosing.

First, I accidently clicked here...

Then I clicked my mouse right here...

Next, I found myself clicking here...

I next found myself searching here to read up on how and why something like this could happen. And after several hours of steady downloading, I had these special files. No .rar files, nothing that had to be re-assembled.

Next, I simply wanted to save these 4 gigs worth of files that my computer had spent days finding as DATA with my DVD burner (you know, just in case I need these special files for some purpose later on.)

But first, I wanted to make sure that these files were complete and working, so I did some more clicking with my mouse, and this little beauty answered all my questions. And quite nicely organized my data files in their correct VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders.

After enjoying a lovely beverage, I, at this point, backed up VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders on a 'Data" DVD (NOT a "Video" DVD!) Mind you, just for safe keeping.

After the back up burning was complete, my computer mistakenly began to read my Data DVD as if it were some kind of... well, movie. And you know, it did look like a movie I paid to see sometime ago. I tooked the Data DVD and showed my friends on a set top DVD hooked to a widescreen TV and they were impressed that these random data files could be regarded as approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes of quality entertainment with no glitches, crisp sound and no timecode (unlike a recent movie I had seen.)

Let me stress... I am NOT computer, internet or technically savvy. Nor do I condone what other may regard this as a "touchy subject". It literally was as simple as accidently clicking my mouse in the described manner. I hope my experience will serve as "warning" to you... watch where you click!

I hope I didn't drip too much sarcasism on your shoe... I don't know whose rip version this is, but it's widescreen (not sure about anamorphic), clear picture, menus, great sound and simple - just download, and burn.

Period.

mr.microphone I enjoyed your answer - however I was trying to avoid using P2P and torrents.

What about protecting yourself with peerguardian, blocklist manager, etc.?

I did get all of the files downloaded individually - I have 92 .rar files and 12 .par2 files - waiting for me to do something with them.

However, I need the following questions answered before I'll know if I can go further with these files.

1. What is the least amount of harddrive space you can have availlable for doing what needs to be done to create the DVD?

2. Can I create the DVD (external drive) while having all of the software and files on an external harddrive rather than loaded on my C: drive since I have very little space left on my laptop?

I have an external 160GB harddrive (2.0 USB) and an external DVD/CD Rewritalbe Drive (2.0 USB).

I would appreciate all the information I can get.

The files you've downloaded are probably 1.5 gigs or so. When you unrar the files, it'll still likely be a couple of gigs. After re-encoding etc, it'll be a little under 5G. Adding up, its around 9 or 10G (though once you've unrar'd the files, you can delete them because you've got the movie). These files can be directly burned onto DVD. So if your external drive is 160G, you have plenty of space.

As for the external hard drive and DVD burner, thats fine. You can still do everything, although maybe it'll be a little slower than internal drives because it connects via USB cable rather than the IDE connection.

But yeah, you should be able to do everything.

Thank you daglington. I'm glad to know that I can use my external harddrive so that I don't have to totally clean off my laptop. I would only be able to clear about 15GB tops.

Speed doesn't bother me. It took over 16 hours to download the ani-obi avi, and it took about 32 hours to download the saga screensavers.

BTW I just got back from seeing Batman Begins on Imax and it was quite awesome. I want to get (download even?) the soundtrack and the movie. I willl be hearing the music all night long now.

Figured I'd throw this out for you guys and see what kinda help you can offer. I downloaded the original Xvid rip, the one with 2 seperate AVI files for the first and second half of the film. I am watching it in VLC media player, but every once and a while it freezes, and through pixels inserts a frame from the last 10 minutes of the movie (this is while watching the first half file) then starts back up again a couple of seconds later in the film. It seemed wierd that while watching the file that didn't have the end of the movie, that frames from the end of the movie would show up. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem or anything similar. I had a rip of Two Towers back in the day and I seem to remember it being a codec issue . . .but as far as I knew VLC had the right codecs for the rip. Thanks for any help.
