I saw it in a shitty theatre at midnight, then I went to the Arclight to see it digital at 3:30 am and fuck me, it felt like a totally diferent movie, the sound, the look, everyone was either crying or clapping at the end. :meatwad:

BTW the "nooooooo" isn't the one we heard on AOTC, when Yoda heard Qui-Gon/Nooooo/Vader's breathing?

When it happened in ROTS, that's exactly what I though.

He heard Vaders breathing in AOTC?

I don't think I have any complaints at all about the movie.

So many great moments for me. R2 killing the SBDs. The opera scene. Palpatine revealing himself to Anakin. Yoda taking out the clonetroopers. The chase/battle with Grevious. Order 66. The Duel. Yoda v Sidious. The construction of Vader.

Wow. This is probably my favorite in the series, but I'll have to see it again to make sure. The acting was probably the best in the series, as was the dialogue. There's a couple dodgy lines, but nothing that approaches some of the dogs in the other five films.

I thought Anakin's turn was just fine, as was Vader's Frankenstein moment. Maybe I'm just not hypercritical enough, but I was far more satisfied with ROTS than I thought I'd have been.

10/10

Also, the crowd was great. I didn't expect a bunch of Germans to be feeling the movie as much as they did, but there was applause for loads of scenes: R2 blowing up droids, the landing of the Invisible Hand, Anakin receiving his new name, Yoda taking out the clones, Yoda taking out the guards, Vader taking his first breath. And of course, the Lucasfilm logo and the opening titles. I don't understand the above comments about shutting the fuck up for the movie. It's fucking Star Wars, and opening night is a communal moment for us geeks, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Now to countdown to Episode Four... oh shit

I really enjoyed it. I think after a few more viewings it might become my favorite of the series. I really liked how they messed with Palpatines voice after he'd gotten his lightning deflected back. Electrocution tends to mess with the vocal cords.

There were some cheesy parts, but it's Star Wars, I expect that. I really had no problem with any of the flaws, I found them to be easy to over look.

I found it reminded me a lot of Phantom of the Opera the way the movie was carried. Very nicely handled I think, but others do not, which is fine.

I truly loved ROTS, it was over too quickly. Hayden was brilliant in this film, much better than in AOTC and I thought Palpatine really stole the show.

There was one or two scenes that I wasn't too fond of. On of them being the duel between Mace and Palpatine. Apart from that this film exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were high from the beginning.

Okay, now that I've slept 2 1/2 hours and am now at work, I will throw in my two cents.

The first hour of the movie seemed like it was in a rush. You can definitely tell there were a ton of cuts from this side of the movie. It seemed like they were cutting the scene almost in the middle of conversations.

The Anakin/Padme scenes? Only one stuck out to me as kind of cringe worthy. That was right before Anakin has the first dream about Padme dying. They were out on the balcony and it seemed that they were just going back and forth saying "I love you", "no, I love you more". It wasn't a very well written scene. But hey, I'm as happy as can be that this was my only real gripe about dialogue.

After the first hour, it seemed like I was watching a totally different movie. Everything from then on seemed to gel together so much better than the first hour. I'm not sure if it was just because I was so tired watching it that I didn't get my adrenaline going until an hour into the movie, but it seemed that this was true for the guys I went with as well.

Acting? Hayden was tons better. Portman really seemed to get into character about half way through the movie. Every scene with her in the last hour is wonderful. Of course, like everyone has said, Ian McDermiad steals the show. Of course, Ewan is as great as he has been in the entire trilogy.

I guess if I was to base a ranking of this movie solely on the time that Palpatine told Anakin that he was a Sith until the end of the movie, it would look like this:

1. EMPIRE
2. SITH
3. ROTJ
4. ANH
5. AOTC
6. TPM

But if I'm grading the entire movie, then probably it would be listed after ROTJ. Maybe tied with ANH.

Don't get me wrong, I love this movie. I love the Prequel Trilogy. And this is the best of the three. I'm going to see it again this afternoon, on Sunday, and on Monday. It just seemed like Lucas was dying to get to the Sith reveal sooner and so he cut tons of the first half of the movie. I would love to see a version with deleted scenes to see if it comes together better.

Nice one Lou - good stuff.

Also, for the record

- I'm almost virtually convinced that Sidious' Master created Anakin. Very slim outside chance that it was all a lie, but Palpatine's eyes and delivery in that scene suggested he was telling the truth.

- Mace defeated Sidious with his light saber, but would have eventually lost to the lightening if he hadn't intervened. Obvious to all but the most stupid person that Sidious was feigning weakness lightening wise.

He may have ended in quite a mess though, which to mean demonstrates that the difference in power between Yoda/Mace/Emperor is but a pubes width.

chris - I could have done, but I'm not sure it would be meaningful! I hate comparing films. I'm fairly confident that I'll rewatch it as much as I did 4-6..... that's the best I can do.

Also, I'm still living the buzz (some 12 hours later) and who knows what I might think in a month//year/decades time!

ROTS
AOTC
ROTJ
TPM
ANH
ESB

That's my ranking. I do realize that means I have like no credibility at all with regard to my critical capacity. Oh well. ROTS rocks! :heavymetal:

One thing that bugged me (there was probably more but I can't think at the moment, i'm literally in awe and want to see it again) was when Mace raises his Lightsaber to kill Palpatine before Anakin shouts "No!!!!" I felt it was weird that Mace just raised his lightsaber slowly and held it in the air when really if he wanted to kill Palpatine he'd have swiped quickly or even just prodded him in the face.

I now know what I don't like about the Obi/Ani duel...

It was how it was shot. I remember seeing the footage from the 'Back in Black' video and thinking 'this fight will be truly the best.'

And while it still is pretty amazing, most of the shots are just too tight. And the tight shots, combined with two blue blades makes it really tough to see exactly what is going on.

Too many CU and not enough MS.

Still, it does take repeated vieweings to really soak it al in.

I got to see the 'Falcon' and George.

I haven't seen it yet, but perhaps knowing Palpatine's power, he was still being quite defensive -- prepared for a retaliation (that ultimately came).

But if anything, Mace was open to attack from Palpatine - he just held his Lightsaber up for the longest time when if he wanted him dead he would have done it quickly.

Okay, I don't know if you are joking when you say that but...

Yes, the Falcon looked like it was coming in for landing at the Senate building toward the beginning of the movie (I believe when Anakin and Obi-wan are coming to the Senate building after the crash landing of the Invisible Hand, right before Obi tells Anakin that he can be the poster boy this time).

Well I really enjoyed it! Yep, it's got a couple of cringeworthy moments. Yep, a large amount of it looks like a cartoon. Yep, it left me wondering why I had to sit through large portions of the first two prequels. But it's a good, enjoyable movie with some very powerful sequences. Very powerful.

By far the best of the prequels in my opinion. Looking forward to watching it again this evening.

Awesome movie. Saw it for the second time last night at a midnight screening. The audience were SHIT but it didn't hamper my enjoyment. MUCH better the second time.

One minor thing though - if ever there was a moment in the saga that cried out for new music, it was the scene with Anakin marching on the Jedi Temple with the Clonetroopers. Bad choice of recycled score there. A few other minor nitpicks, but what's the fucking point?

Otherwise, all good.

Seeing it for the third time tonight. Can't wait.

Thanks George!

Saw it a midnight last night and LOVED it.
Let me say this though. I had to line up at 5:30 and was about 40 people back. Some of these supposed fans really pissed me off though, for reasons I won't get into here. There were some major lazer sword fights though and consisted of guys just swinging like hell trying to hit each other! It was freakin hilerious! The theater did a HORRIBLE job taking the tickets. Instead of sectioning off the line so people couldn't cut in line they let all hell break lose! Friging high school kids kept cutting and me and another guy ended up having to regulate. I just kept thinking to myself, this is freakin Star Wars and people are cutting. It just pissed me off like crazy. Finally got in the theater and actually got a good seat. Rant over review start...

Let me say it again, I LOVED this movie! For me it may very well be the best Star Wars movie made. CG was great, the acting was there and the plot was great. I definately need to see it again to take it all in and get a fresh perspective of it all. I have had a decent nights sleep and I still feel as I did when I left the theater...WOW.

My only gripe is the whole mace/palpatine sequence. Everything seemed rushed, jedi got disbatched too quickly ( I know, Sidious is a sith lord and what not, but come on!) fighting was not that great to me, the whole transformation was okay, but anakins turn to the dark side could have used some more dialog.

Other than that, great movie...finally

By the way, some people felt that there was too much in this movie and that parts were rushed. I read an article in EW last night and in it George said that 40% of the story that he wanted to tell went into the first two movies (20% for each) and that 60% was left for sith. Just a side note in case anyone didn't know.

Great CG? It's weird, for a lot of it I actually thought that the CG took a step backwards. The Clones looked less real to me and the animation of the battle droids looked a lot more like cartoon movement than they had in Ep2. Yoda was hit and miss - only because he got more exposure so your eyes sort of lingered on him. The CG doubles (for Dooku for example) were instantly apparent and, though I liked the character, I thought Grievous looked like a cartoon. And if ever there was a reason not to use CG look to every shot of the clones with their helmets off.

That's just my opinion...

I think they should've used people to play the clones, not CG. With Star Wars' popularity I know they could've hired enough people to do the job. But whatever, I'm gonna see it in just two hours so I'll see for myself. Hopefully the music isn't all THAT screwed up...

I don't agree at all.

The clones in motion without a helmet was the only real issue I had. Yoda was fanfuckingtastic. Way more consistent than in AOTC.

First, I want to thank my wife for putting up with this nonsense for the past few years as we have taken our children to all midnight showings.

Second, I want to thank George Lucas for his creativity and his devotion to this story.

Thirdly, I just want to thank everyone who got to the theatre before us, resulting in having to sit in the third row and for the ache in my neck this morning. Ha. Just kidding.

We made the trek to see ROTS last night and you could have heard a pin drop when the 20th Century Fox fanfare came on.

The first 30 minutes were visually stunning. We saw some of this at CIII at Indianapolis and on the digital projector it was some of the "prettiest" footage I have ever seen from a film.

People criticize the film, especially critics, because first of all, that is there nature. That's there job to criticize. A food critic isn't going to give a raving review to the cheesecake, he or she is going to focus the good reviews for the main course. In cinematic history, these movies are basically "dessert" and not the main course of cinematography that some others have been over the years. Not to belittle Star Wars, but it is never going to be reviewed by the mainstream press the way a "Godfather" would be.

But it was an awesome movie and one that I will surely see again and again, just to see all the extras, and own on DVD and probably wait with anticipation for when the 3D versions come out.

First, let me get the negatives out of the way:

- Palpatine's makeup/transformation. It looked different in just about every scene. From the HUGE NECK to the normal Palpatine/Emperor look. I wished they would have kept this a bit more consistent.

- The ending left me a little wanting. Here is the moment that everyone has waited for since 1983 and ROTJ and we get about a minute and a half.

- Anakin's wounds. I had read the book, screenplay and the graphic novel and knew what he lost in the final fight, but to visually see it, I'm not sure everyone will know that he lost his left arm. That was hard to see. I think in the editing, there should have been a shot that showed the legs hit (maybe I missed this) and the arm. I thought in the book it talked about these apendiges falling into the lava and bursting into flame. I heard people whispering -- "What got cut off?"

That's it. Other than the dialogue, scenes with Padme, etc. that people have been hammering, I think this was a well-done movie and probably will be my tie for favorite with TESB.

I will be "anxiously awaiting" the TV series to watch as the new Empire continues to dominate the galaxy and watch as Vader helps to hunt down and destroy the Jedi. It would be nice to know during the first episode or two of the series how many Jedi there are expected to be. I don't know if this is going to be a bounty hunter series focusing on the hunt for the Jedi or what.

If they do 100 episodes, that's like 15 a year, if that, so there could be 8 seasons of this show easy. That's pretty satisfying, I think. So if there are 19 years between Episode 3 and 4, that would be a little more than 2 years for each season.

I'm tired and barely able to type this so if anything I've said strikes someone as wrong, let's attribute it to sleep deprivation.

As a 36-year old who began this journey in 3rd grade when his parents drove by the drive-in theatre one summer night in 1977, allowing their only son a glimpse of something that would come to change his life over the next 28 years, I have to say that although there are some disappointments in the prequel trilogy, overall it's nice to see this come full-circle. Finally.

He was awesome to watch but the voice and cough kind of got annoying. He would have been an interesting character to have used as a Sith lord...already showing how flesh and machine can come together. I know that was supposed to foreshadow Annakin's transformation, but for those people who don't read these sites, it would have been nice to have someone say that he was part machine/part alien...maybe in a bit of dialogue between Annakin and Obi-Wan.

When he split his arms and drew up the four sabers I was half-expecting Obi-Wan to look worried, but he was grinning.

There were a lot of interesting facial expressions in this film.

Palpatine in the opening looked like he was about to laugh at certain times. I thought that was a big odd. Expected him to be more serious and "afraid" of being captured. He looked like he was having fun, but perhaps I'm missing the point there.

Y'know, I was expecting to hate the cough and yet I actually thought it worked. As a character, I thought he was great. I just didn't think he looked solid or moved well. Like Dooku in Ep2 though, I wish his presence had even been hinted at in the other movies. Consistent villains is something I think the prequels really lacked.

Reading through your posts on page 1, Kale, I completely agree with you on what didn't work all that well.

Still, loads in this movie to enjoy. And I think this one will be a lot easier to go back to than Ep1 or 2.

It's a shame that Dooku and Grievous both had such little screen time.

Couldn't they have just had the one character (in AOTC and this one)?!

I'd probably go for Dooku myself.

I loved Grievous. When he drew the four Light Sabers it was a "Shiiiiiit" moment for me. The way he cut up the floor with his Sabers as he walked I thought was a nice touch.

Another thing I enjoyed about him was that "Spider Walk" he did..

ok, here's my review:

Worst...Movie...Ever....

JUST KIDDING!!!!!

This movie rocked! I can't wait to see it again. I loved the CG, had no complaints about the clones or anything (then again, I got stuck sitting in towards the back and maybe my eyesight wasnt great). The movie was very fast paced, and I guess my only gripe is that the movie was over so quickly....almost felt like the duals, transformation and especially the ending were to fast. I would have loved for the movie to have been like 3 to 3 1/2 hours long....

LOVED IT.

I liked TPM ok, but it is my least favorite, (ANH still #1, I think).

I am not one that holds ESB as the high and mighty like some as I think time has made it what it is. I think this movie is better overall, and that time will show it as such.

I love all of these movies and this was a great STAR WARS flick. I could not have asked for more than that.

So slept 4 hours...man im tired. Some more thoughts..

I think my main issue will always be that the going to the darkside was too fast. And thats why to me the PT is a failure. Because he had the chance to develop Anakins character over the course of 2 movies before and just missed that. We already knew that obi and anakin were best friends yet the first 30 mins of Ep3 felt like a newer ver of Ep2. And thanks to Lucas for making R2 the new jarjar.

If it werent for Ian's brilliance performance this movie wouldve been complete shit. I mean sure helping to kill mace was def dark but without blinking to kneel down and basically say "fuck everything else" was just not working for me. And i went with a whole group of SW nerds and we all agreed that it was too fast.

Heres my quick sum or neg and pos.

NEGATIVE in my book

-Anakins turn was too fast.
-i hated all of the first 30 mins.
-dooku duel was raped in editing just like the dooku fight in E2.
-People riding on creatures..WHY? It just doesnt work.
-Lucas editing and pacing. Yeah yeah George you wanna keep moving the plot along cause u have a story to tell. You had 2 FULL MOVIES TO DO IT.
-Sam Jackson. Letting him be in SW was a big mistake.
-R2 is jarjar.
-Music was butchered yet again. The scenes moved so fast that there was never a chance for any cue to really develop...a shame really.

POSITIVE

- Ian's performance. Brilliant. Loved it.
- Ani/Obi duel.
- Haydens acting. I was really surprised. Fuckin great job dude.
- Order 66. Amazing but again very fast...
- The last scenes during the duel and the creation of vader. VERy emotional stuff. Fantastic.
- Seeing the vader mask thru his eyes close down on him...chilling.
- all the scenes with palp and anakin. Just awesome stuff.
- Yoda vs Palp. Amazing. Mindblowing...

ESB
ANH
ROTJ
ROTS
TPM
AOTC

Overall i expected more from the PT. It was still a fun ride and i will still see Sith on Friday again.

For those of you who didn't buy Anakins reasons for turning or thought it hapened too fast...

The dark side of the force is like a disease. One moment of doubt and then BANG, its got you. Think of the zombie disease in 28 Days Later.

Anakin was in a psychosis from the time he bowed to the Chancellor until he threw him off the balcony.

True, he had several reasons to turn, but it was the dark side itself that ultimately saw its opportunity to latch onto his conflicted mind.

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.

Remember?

Saw it last night and loved it. It was intriguing to learn that Anakin turned not for power, but to protect his wife, and it ultimately destroyed the both of them.

Very cool stuff. I'm definitley going to see it again.

David Bowie once said, "The artist makes culture, NOT the critic." Which pretty much solidifies my theory that all movie critics are fucking retards.

I loved the movie, and cried at the end. I'm not sure if it was the tragedy aspect of the film or because it's the last SW movie I'll see for the first time, or a little of both.

Palps was incredible, and the evilness that made him so great in ROTJ was so great to see. I thought Yoda deserved an oscar in ESB(yes I'm aware he's a puppet), and I think Ian deserves one here.

The final duel was awesome between Vader and Obi...the Palps/Yoda duel wasn't too bad itself, but I don't think Yoda lost bad enough to warrant his exile. It's a bit thin there....

Padme seemed more into her acting this go 'round...She actually showed some emotion I could buy into.

The opening space battle war really awesome, and it was built up so much I was sure it would disappoint.

The lack of Jar Jar talking was great.

The burning corpse was really nasty...I can't believe people are taking little kids. A 9 or 10 year old, maybe, but there were 4 and 5 year olds there...nightmares for years!

Tarkin's appearance was awesome.

Someone earlier brought up that they didn't like Palps makeup:I thought it was great...It's supposed to look different sometimes because he can only maintain it so much when under stress...that's how I percieved it, anyway. After the Mace fight he can't ever get it all the way together again..

What was really cool was when the stormtroopers got order 66...I usually kind of root for the bad guys, but I couldn't help feeling bad for Ki-adi and the others...Those were some of the most powerful scenes in the movie, and ones didn't think would affect me emotionally in any way.

Did anybody else think when Luke was born crying " Oh my God, he's whining already!"?

Here's a remark that will be sure to get me shouted down and ridiculed, but did anyone notice Padme still looked pregnant when they carted her of during the funeral when they showed the Japor snippet? Perhaps a surprise third baby that even we are kept in the dark about? Long shot, but I just can't believe it's over. Maybe Lucas teh liar will get attention hungry in another 17 years and start up the last 3 he swears he'll never do....I know it's bullshit, but I don't want to let go...

I'm going to see the movie on sat because hoprefully the line will die down by that time. But after reading the reviews from here, movie critics, and yahoo overall the movie had more positive and negatives. I can't really say much now but I fell some of you are just nitpicking a little. Don't get me wrong im pretty sure this movie wont be perfect but people complaining that the best dual is obi/maul? that last for like one min and i thought it was even too short. The dual between ani/obi i believe is much longer and from what i've just seen in a couple of second clips looked pretty darn good to me. I feel the duels in the first 3 are outdated. (still good though) I dont know i just have to see the movie and decide for myself. But in a way i feel we might have spoiled ourselves and expected way too much out of the movie. And the thing about vader stumbling and asking about padme..he just lost his girl and half of his body how would you expect him to react? Im pretty sure i'll be happy with the movie I just can't wait to see it and look for the negative and postives i kept hearing.

I spotted that about Padme.

Fortunately, I've got a friend who's just had a baby.... and she still has 'a lump at front'. Won't bore you with the biological details but it would appear to be bizarre attention to detail.

jmaurice - if you've read my review on the last page, IMO (if you're anything like me) you'll 'register' some bad bits, but they will be overwhelmed by the extraordinary amount of superb bits!

Enjoy!

What was really cool was when the stormtroopers got order 66...I usually kind of root for the bad guys, but I couldn't help feeling bad for Ki-adi and the others...Those were some of the most powerful scenes in the movie, and ones didn't think would affect me emotionally in any way.

I totally agree, this scene moved me - moreso than Anakins Immolation Scene or the duel/s. Just seeing the various Jedi get hacked down I thought was chilling and like I said moving..

P.S. Any of you guys seen people complaining on other forums about Artoo "Jumping" out of Anakins starfighter? It baffles me when I read them because you see Anakin pressing a button what I can only assume is releasing Artoo from the holder thingy. Straaaaange

He left to find the knowledge to save his wife, but he stayed for the power :)

The irony that it was his attempt to find a way to keep people safe from death that leads him to be the cold-hearted killer we know in the OT is just great.

233 INT. ALDERAAN CRUISER-CONFERENCE ROOM

BAIL ORGANA, YODA, and OBI-WAN sit around a conference table.

YODA: Pregnant, she must still appear. Hidden, safe, the children must be kept.

EDIT: I know this line isn't in the movie (to my knowledge) but I would think it's implied, not in a way where you would think "Oh yeah, he said that" but in a way that you don't miss it but not so as to say it didn't happen. If this makes sense :\.

I waited in line for the midnight showing from noon until midnight. Some friends had been there since 8AM. The line could have actually been more fun that the movie. We were all lightsaber fighting and stuff. It was a great time.
During the opening battle, I was surprised to find that I had seen almost the entire thing already; if you've seen the German TV Clip, the video game clip, the trailers, and TV Spots, you've seen all but about a minute of the 4 minute space battle. I greatly enjoyed all the litle adventures on the Invisible Hand(though I hated that the Super Battle Droids talked). Once the Dooku fight started, I saw the first occurence of something that really bothered me throughout the whole movie: the lightsabers seem to have this new effect attatched to them that adds a giant trail of light flowing behind everyswing so that you can never tell what the hell the actors are actually doing with the lightsabers. Also, every fight in the movie was filmed from way, way too close in.
After the opening battle, I enjoyed all the Palpatine stuff and thought Hayden and Natalie's performances in their scenes together were much, much, muchbetter than in AOTC. The rest of the theater may not have agreed, as most of the audience kept busting out laughing during Padme and Anakin's scenes together.
I thought the Grievous fight was prety cool, except that it was filmed from to close in and the lightsaber effect made it too hard to see what was happening. I thought it was dumb that in the middle of the chase, there was a cut to two scenes of friggen talking. Speaking of cutting, the wipes in the movies blow all sorts of ass and I loathe them.
Despite was others say, I thought the Mace/Palpatine fight was one of the best in the movie(though it was still hard to see what was happening). I didn't like the part where Sidious was trying to fry Mace, and I didn't like the part where he was talking right after it. It was corny and dissapointing.
At the end of the Grievous fight, I thought Ewan McGregor gave his only bad line delivery in the movie: "So uncivilized". It sounded awful.
Order 66 really made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I was also very moved by Anakin and Padme talking on Mustafar, followed by Obi-Wan and Anakin circling each other before the Duel. The Duel itself was very dissapointing. Having seen the iFilm featurette on the movie's fights, along with the TRL clip, I had already seen the coolest parts of the Duel. During the Yoda/Sidious fight, everyone was cheering; I thought that fight was about as good as the Duel.
When Obi-Wan eventually defeats Anakin and watches him burn while delivering that little speech(the lingering shots of burning Anakin were a little over the top), I was more moved that I have been by any movie in a long time. I pretty much felt pretty moved for the rest of the movie, expect for when Vader broke out of his shackles and stumbled onto the floor like an idiot. I know he's supposed to be clumsy, but it looked stupid.
Overall, the movie was only slightly worse than I expected it to be, which means I thought it was pretty good.

I just saw it, much better than I expected. Anakin and Padmé were really good. Some of the dialogue fell flat, though. I really liked Anakin and Obi-Wan talking to each other at the end but then there were two or three lines that took me out of the moment. I have to say the lightsabre fights were disappointing. Mostly it was just a blur of blue light and close-ups. And FAST! This movie was going at lightspeed. I also noticed that Yoda and Obi-Wan were already talking about the Emperor when they could not have known about the Empire yet. I liked how Anakin was the focus of the first part, Hayden did a terrific job and Natalie seemed to enjoy herself eventhough she didn't have a lot to play with. They kinda lost me at Mace confronting Palpatine, the 'no HE is the bad guy' back and forth was too cheesy as was Palpy's 'ultimate powerrrrrrr' ham. The physical transformation was ok. Thank God there wasn't much Threepio. Ewan was really good, I quite enjoyed the chat OBi-Wan and Anakin had about Palpatine and the Council. Those were the highlights for me. Didn't care much for Grievous, I wish we could have seen more of Kashyyk and the battle. While I was watching it I thought 'hey, I like this one more than ROTJ'. NOne of the fights had the emotional impact as that final duel between Luke and Vader but the rest was much, much more interesting. I just wish Lucas had spread it out over the prequels more evenly, I would have killed for a third episode with Vader running around killing people. It felt very rushed now while episode 2 seemed to have a lot of filler.

Is it a usual occurence for the audience to cheer during films? In the UK whenever I go to see a movie, nobody really cheers during movies - sure they laugh at funny things but they don't cheer when they see things like Yoda drawing his Lightsaber etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but I believe it is precisely explained that way in the book.

And also, as someone else mentioned, after giving birth you don't go flat right away anyway.

I think people did it more when years ago here in the US for these types of movies, but still on opening day of certain films you'll definitely hear it.

AOTC, opening day, the audience started cheering when Yoda walked in to confront Dooku. And I doubt too many of them had already seen and known what was coming from the Internet.

I treasure the memory of seeing ROTJ in 1983 (not on opening day mind you) and the audience erupted into loud spontaneous applause when Boba Fett got eaten by the Sarlacc. That was beautiful. :bounce:

That must have been a good experience.. unfortuneatly I wasn't born :( I would have loved to have been old enough to see the originals when they were released.

P.S. If only Boba had a better death :(

Guys, my review will be short and sweet cause basically what else can you say that everybody else hasnt been saying. Ive been a long time lurker on this great site and saw more spoilers than I care to admit. But on to the movie

all jokes and snide remarks aside, thnak you George Lucas for spending 30 years of your life giving us something that we'll all be praising and bitching about for the rest of OUR lives.

On to the movie....very surrel feeling I had watching this entire picture. I guess in the end...one thing beyond anything else grabbed my heart and held it like a vice grip. and it was that moment where this movie is a muthafuckin masterpiece to me ( regardless if I felt there was many other things wrong with the film...and there were some things that were )

It was Yoda's reaction to the Jedi's being slaughtered during Order 66. upon repeated viewings, try and notice his FACIAL expressions, especially after dropping his walking stick.
knowing that Mace just died, then Ki adi, then Aayla and so on and so forth. I dont know about you guys, but Im sorry.... that scene just did it for me. That was the moment this movie became a masterpiece. every body elses acting in this movie dont mean shyt compared to how Yoda was in this scene alone.

you know how powerful looking at that is when He just got finished tellin Anakin in the room that you must learn to let go the things you fear to lose, dont grieve, allow the force to take you beyond grieving and blah, blah, blah.

as soon as 66 got on the way....it was awesome to see all the lessons he tried to instill in Anakin, blew up right in his face. and for an wise and powerful 800 yr old Jedi master to be caught in such an off guard moment where his eyes showed a sense of being overwhelmed.

Even his body was about to collapse under the weight of all this death and grief on all the people he worked with, loved and to some extent...taught and raised. This was truly an emotional scene for the ages. Maybe I was the only one who caught that, but no matter what after that...everything else were a fantasic depressing blur., Iloved the duel, but even that final showdown with Obi and Ani..cant compare to what Yoda did for me during order 66.

there will be repeated viewings of course and i'm owning the dvd when it comes out. its funny how some of us hate the movie, but yet will be the first to own the dvd when it comes out ( how deliciously ironic hahaha )

anyway, thank you guys for allowing me to lurk and gain info as well reading and vibing with you all. its been fun

Just a comment here. I think if you had seen the Clone Wars animated series, you would not have been annoyed by the cough and would have understood Obi-Wan grinning. See, the cough came from damage Mace Windu inflicted on Grevious using the force as he was taking off with Palpatine. As far as Obi-Wan grinning - Count Dooku taught Grevious to fight unconventianlly and to come across as menacning. To the younger Jedi I think he did just that, and that is why he wrecked havoc with 5 jedi vs 1 Grevious in the Clone Wars. The difference is - Mace, Yoda, and Obi-Wan are not afraid.

Just my $.02

I hear you, but even though he was a hell of a cool action figure in 1980, before all the prequels and the novels for an average audience seeing him go down like that was great - people loved Han more than Boba back then (who they probably just thought of that bad guy in the helmet who stole frozen Han away), and Han blindly takes him out and just put it to rest right there, out of nowhere. The audience applause testified their thorough satisfaction.

Don't mean to hijack the thread...

In the graphic novel and the book, Yoda tells Bail and Obi-Wan she must appear to remain pregnant in order to keep the children safe.
