Since the game hits the stores today I was hoping someone could answer a quick question...

Spoilers are one thing, but I'd rather wait to actually see ROTS on the screen.

But I'm dying to get the game today, is it possible to just play the Jedi battles section of the game right off the bat, or do you have to unlock it and characters as you progress through the story?

Thanks.

I'm picking up my copy today. From what I have read on different game websites is that this is one of the best Star Wars games ever. This opinion is pretty much across the board which is a good thing. Check out IGN or 1up.

A. the game is friggin awesome
B. you can't skip the videos when you first play a level, but do what I do, put the tv on mute and put your hand infront of your eyes when they come on. this way nothing is spoiled. and the levels are not spoilers themselves (at least not the early ones) its just like any other movie video game, they take a 5 minute sequence and turn it into 5 levels that take u an hour to complete. so i highly reccommend getting this awesome game and you will not be dissapointed on any level.
peace :chewbacca:

Ace display there dvdmike - where did the sabers come from? The one at our store isn't nearly as big, but still looks pretty reasonable.

I take it you're desperate for the limited edition artwork too then, eh?

You finish the extra level after the proper last level, extra level being called "Revenge of the Sith" after the main level thats called "A Friendship In Flames"

Pretty cool alternate ending to the "Revenge of the Sith" level.

*****GAME SPOILERS******

You play as Anakin instead of Obi-Wan, and instead of getting his limbs cut off as he jumps over Obi-Wan, he lands behind Obi-Wan and impales him with his Light Saber, then just cockily kicks down the bank... then theres a shot of Sidious handing him a new Light Saber, with Clones to either side of him like some royal type thing, Anakin lights the Saber and impales Sidious shouting "The galaxy is mine!!!" or something to that effect.

P.S. You can also unlock OT Ben Kenobi and a Death Star location to duel on.

I just got to the Grievous duel. I messed around with him once, and seeing that he is hard as hell to fight, I'm going to take a break from the game for a little while.

grevious was pretty easy i thought. i had more trouble with dooku & mace.

i'm currently stuck though on the escape from utapau level, i may have hit a glitch. i'm not sure yet.

I just started playing the game tonight, but here are my initial impressions.

The game is essentially a beefed-up Jedi Power battles. The lightsaber combat is a heckofa lat deeper, but the main gameplay is nearly identical to JPB except for some more force powers. The animation is cool, and I haven't played the MP yet, but that is my first impression.

I can't wait to unlock all of the cool characters

on the escape from utapau level, when you jump on the tank & you're supposed to take out the turret(s), how many turrets is there? i took out one and there is a gun/turret that looks like a chaingun, but i can't attack it or throw my saber it at.

but i'm stuck at the same time ont he top of the tank, after i destroy the one turret, i can't go anywhere and clones just keep spawning from the sides & obi-wan keeps saying over & over again how he has to take out the guns on the tank.

its only easy if you use fucking cheats and infinite whatever codes. i guess im old school i guess. the hardest game i ever played was blaster master for the nes. NO BAT SAVE, NO MAPS, 4 hours just to get to level 8, etc etc.

btw this game rules. a must buy for all sw fans. anyone have the ds version yet?

Someone earlier asked if you can play as Anakin w/ a red saber. You can if you play multi-player in "versus" pitting "good" anakin vs. "dark" anakin. This character stays hooded and his moves are fast and vicious! I'm very pleased with the game (XBox version) and (to me) it's been challenging.

Why did it take so long to make a game like this ? My god there has been so many crappy star wars games through the years and now we finally have a good one and its the last movie !!! uuuuuugh. The bonus missions are unbelievable on it you can be Grievous, Yoda, Vader and its beyond awesome. I have to say playing Grievous is probably the best part though he has so many crazy ass moves and he can make the arms split the works its so kickass!!!! Yoda is cool to hes a bit hard to control though its like attack of the clones hes all over the place. Vader is off the original trilogy fighting an older Obi Wan off of a new hope but its still good no complaints.Im halfway through the game and so far its one hell of a game. Dooku was hard to fight and Grievous was impossible but anyone wanting a kickass awesome unbelievable graphics game id say get it this has it all !!!

The game is cool, but suffers from "how friggin' long is it going to take to get through this level?"-itis. Ugh. How many levels does that elevator run on? Yeah, I know it's a game, but this isn't the first game to do this sort of thing. Artoo's unlocking the doors or extending the scaffolding and it's taking F-O-R-E-V-E-R.

How many times do I have to hear "cheap Republic droids"?

And the game is WAY too easy. The original Dark Forces was more of a challenge.

9/10. It's a damn fine game, just suffers from a lot of the pitfalls found in other games.

i had to restart to the level to get out of the glitch i had, but i beat the game...it was very average. fun for a bit, then just frustrating and then it was over.

i'm trying to figure out how to get the alternate ending now.

Yeah, I'll have to agree with Mike on the elevator level, that one kinda sucks--as does shooting down Gunray's ship on Mustafar.

But, the saber combat in this game is unbelievable, and the final duel in hell is magnificent, as well. I only wish they had added a few levels for Yoda on Kashyyyk and the Yoda-Sids/Mace-Sids duels.

Overall, I'd give it a 9.5/10

picked it up in the afternoon at the local Best Buy, they were giving away the first issue of the comic book adaption along with the game purchase.

after playing a little, stopped after the Dooku fight, have to say the game is fun. the controls are decent and pretty responsive. porbably one of the better games I've played on the PS2, I'm mostly a PC gamer. overall 9/10

My buddy picked up the game today and we beat it, except the Anakin/Obi duel when you play as Anakin. It's fucken hard (I idiotically started on the hardest level) and that bastard Kenobi is really pissing me off.

There's a few big glitches in the PS2 version at least. Most noteably music tracks will start to skip, AI will get stuck at walls and sometimes during saber locks glitch (during the lock the characters will be nowhere close and be locking against air). Some of the levels get repetitive and tedious, especially the Utapau ones. Anakin's first stage on Mustafar is damn annoying to go through. The saber combat is quite fun. Playing as Grievous is awesome and some of the saber battles are very well done. I'm more a fan of the Jedi Knight realism of saber combat, so some of the over-the-top moves turn the game into more of a button mashing experience.

The bonus missions are alright, if not tedious, but I really want to unlock the Ben/Vader duel.

as a game 7.5/10
as a Star Wars game 8.5/10 just for some of the cool unlockables.

All I have to say is thank God you can't fall over the edge in this game. Jedi Power Battles had me ready to demolish my tv because it was nearly impossible to make some of those jumps.

Just got it two days ago and already beat it.

Great game. One of the few action platforms to do lightsaber fighting justice. Motions and animation are solid, and the story follows along with the ROTS plot without giving too much away.

My main complaint, if there is one, is that the game doesn't have enough peripheral stuff to keep you playing much after you've finished the main story, unless you count the MP Cop-Op and dueling, which are both a blast.

They could have allowed for more customization, even making it a sort of RPG fighter, where you could play story mission and bonus levels to receive SW credits or something so you could upgrade weapons, change lightsaber colors, buy different outfits, etc etc. That kind of RPG element would have added a lot to its replay factor.

Also, there aren't many characters to unlock in the duel mode. This is a SW game after all, why shouldn't we get a taste of all the jedi and sith? It's not like there's a shortage of good character to use. Where's Darth Maul, Darth Sidious, Exar Kun, Nomi Sunrider, Luke Skywalker etc? This game could've been one of those that sits in the Xbox for weeks or maybe even months. The developers just didn't fully explore the potential that this game had.

But what is there is solid and fun. Just nitpicky stuff for me. Still worth the price if you like SW or fighting games.

Oh, and by the way, Dooku kicks ass in duel mode. Never count out ole' dooky.

I'm sure you've beat it by now, but just in case...

Use the force to toss the cannisters at it, making sure to run from the lasers and definitetly from the rockets. Once the cannisters have all been used up, use your saber blocking shield to bounce the gunship's lasers back it. Do this a few times, watch out for rockets of doom and the gunship is history.

This strategy also works for Nute Gunray's ship which comes to play later on.

An alternative strategy is to fling your lightsaber at it, (L2 and Direction on the PS2) Try also to make use of the explosives, use the force to hurl them at the gunship. (This also works when fighting as Anakin on Mustafur )

Run away from all laser and missles, fireballs etc.

Hope that helps.

:)

EDIT: I rented the game over the weekend, thinking I wouldn't get time to finish it and to my surprised beat it in two days flat.

Really good game but doesn't lend itself to replayability once all experiences point have been earnt or secrets uncovered.

The co-op mode was dissapointing, and even verus matches between obi-Wan and Vader on the death star has limited appeal as the range of characters is a little thin (Cin Drallig but no Darth Maul?)

Vader and Ben are unlocked I think when you complete the 'alternative ending' in Story Mode.

All in all a pretty good lead into the movie, but not worth £40.

Does anyone know what you get for finding secrets. I beat the game and I'm debating whether to play it again on hard or go back and look for missed secrets. But it doesn't seem like there's much more for me to unlock...so what else could the secrets do?

look what a great score this game got :) http://ps2.ign.com/articles/610/610501p1.html

I knew it was gonna suck. All the factors were there--a movie based game, rushed to meet a release date before RotS hits theaters etc. The Harry Potter 3 game suffered from the same problems.

I'll stick to the Jedi Knight series, thank you.

IGN is hardly a good benchmark to use when reviewing starwars games, especially fighters. Ign's review is about the only bad one out there. The Episode III game has gotten pretty good reviews overall.

It IS a fun game. It's just a little on the short side and doesn't have much replay value. But the action is decent and you'll be hard pressed to find a better lightsaber dueling game out there.

The best review to go by is always your own. I bought this game and was pleasantly surprised by how good it is. If you're a Star Wars fan, and why else would you be here, you'll enjoy it. I beg to differ on it having no replay value. I enjoy the versus mode immensely, it's like a combination of Masters of the Teras Kasi and Jedi Power Battles, except more fun. But, as always, to each his own.

If the part you are having trouble with is when he wips out his 4 lightsabers, what you need to do is jump out of the way as much as you can until he finishes his combo or try to block his first attack and counter with a light attack combo. Also look for the secret packages hidden in the level. Worked for me anyway-
On another note, this was a fun game but WAY to short! I guess thats what we get for a game based on a movie and pushed too much to be completed.

I'm still confused as to how to unlock the final bonus mission, and also that final story mission. I've passed the game once, but didn't get all the secrets. Do the secrets have anything to do with unlocking the extra missions? Someone mentioned playing as Anakin against Obi-Wan, but how do you get to that level without using cheat codes??

Finish the game, on the second to last level with Obi vs Anakin after you beat Anakin and the credits roll, go back to single player story mode or what ever it is and go all the way to the right. The last level should be unlocked and the level is the same as the one before, only you fight as Anakin instead of Obi and after you beat that, then you will have unlocked the last two characters and the vs levels as well. Hope that helps!

If you're an old school street fighter series veteran, you'll beat this in a day maybe two. Bought it Saturday, beat it Sunday without staying glued to the screen. My technique was the old street fighter ryu style, block, wail your combo, repeat. Mace was the hardest for me. Everyone else was a cake walk. This is the best of the jedi style Star Wars games. I like the ridiculous amount of combinations and the amount of effort that was put into the game. I did like Lego's version because of the fresh outtake but this is what I've been waiting for. To the other PC gamers, I can only hope for a future jedi game based off the doom engine.

I can't figure out how to unlock the last duelist. I've unlocked Ben and Vader but there's still one left. Who is it and how do you unlock it? I assume it's Yoda but I can already play as him on the bonus mission so why would he still be locked?

The very last icon on the duelist select screen is to select a random character. To my knowledge Vader and Obi-Wan are the last two duelists that you can unlock.

In the 'Anakin Goes Bonkers On Mustafar' level, how does one get the 2nd drawbridge to come out when he reaches the corner. There was 1 guard there but I already killed him with force lightning and I cant throw my saber far enough to hit the box with the power cables as indicated by the force target. Should I go back and try to get more experience to boost my saber throwing skills so I can (presumably) throw farther?

edit:ok, my saber throwing is maxed out and i still cant throw it far enough. push and lightning dont work either. wasupwitdat?

If anybody has a problem with the game being too easy, just crank it to hard. Good challenge then. The Darth Vader death star bonus level is a neat addition. Wasn't expecting it.
