Old School SW fan here.

Just wondering how does Obi Wan know Darth Vader is Anakin when they meet on the Death Star?

In other words from what I gather Obi Wan never sees Anakin/Darth after the lava battle. He may assume he is killed. Or that he has been saved and heard that he was transformed into a 'machine". After all he goes and lives a hermit lifestyle shortly after dropping the twins off. Doesn't mean he is not keeping up with the outside world per se.

I haven't read the script so it may be answered in there.

Perhaps I am falling into the old "tie the loose ends up" issues that alot of people have with various SW matters.

Probably a common sense answer that GL doesn't need to provide an answer for - just my inane curiousity.

Anyway wouldn't mind your thoughts.

the force is with him

if vader can sense his master, obi-wan can sense his apprentice.

Anakin goes by the name Vader in ROTS. He gets seriously injured, and then a walking lung suddenly shows up that is also called Vader.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out it's the same guy.

Like I said I hadn't read the script or most spoilers.

So Anakin is named Vader before his duel then with Obi Wan?

If so, there the explanation and thread can be locked.

Yeah, he is called Vader before his fight with Obiwan, so that explains that, but what ive always wondered...

I always wondered if everyone in the Galaxy knew that Palpatine was Sidious (a Sith or even just a force user at all) in the OT. Follow me on this... I always thought that the name emperor was a Sith title, not the one that he had in the senate (because in the OT, you are only vaguely aware of the senate as opposed to the PT).

And Motti on the first Death Star in ANH says vader is the last of his ancient religion, so it led me to believe that Vader is the only one who knows that Palpatine is a Sith, and no one even in the Empire, Tarkin on down, is aware of that fact. They just think he is a dictator politician.

This would make a difference because in the scene when Windu and Co. confront Palps, doesnt he indicate he is recording the beginning of the conversation to furthur his attack against the Jedi, and proving they are now the enemy? In the script and screenplay he does, if i remember correctly.

Hope this makes sense... let me know your thoughts

Well is anyone present in the galactic senate room when Yoda and Sidious fight?

Doesn't look like it - seems they are all alone although Bail I think may be witnessing it. Perhaps only certain people know or that Sidious saw Bail (or heard his voice) and had Aldeeran destroyed with the DS later on once it was complete.

Well lets see, Emporer probably isn't a Sith title.. Remember we are dealing with an Empire, and empire's are ruled by an Emporer

Yeah, i get that, but that wasnt really what I was asking...

that would be an explanation for why he tells his guards to leave in RotJ, but at the same time I would assume they know he is a Sith...
It could just be for emphasis, cause really everyone would forget they were there, but Lucas maybe wanted to emphasize the idea of Palpatine not wanted everyone to know about his secret power...

Then again, I could just be reaching here...

yeah, but it was that attitude... that lying bastard... that I thought was the general consensus during the OT... I mean, when you watched it before seeing TPM, it was always about how the emporer was bad, and how nobody liked the empire... it was all about the rebels, So i had no trouble believing that everyone knew him as a Sith, or a dark side user (cant remember if Sith was used in the OT).

now the PT has shed some light on the matter, indirectly at best, but im getting the impression we all think only a few know his true power.

Hearing the Emperor talk about using the Force, which is seen as an "ancient religion," is one thing.

Knowing his true full power is something else...
