I'm sorry, but I am very dissapointed in "A Hero Falls," the whole video seems like a rush job. First of all, unlike the other music videos, there are no BTS shots, no orchestra footage, and not even an attempt to slightly mix certain sound fx into the video to enhance certain moments. And the final zoom-in on Vader at the last second is pretty stupid IMO. But even WORSE than all of those combined, is that it's not even edited properly!!!
If you all have the OS quicktime version, then check out frame by frame at all of these times:

0:45, 1:22, 1:44, 2:35 (twice at 2:35), and 3:03.

At each of these times, one frame leaks through from the next shot from the original source footage (which if you recognize the sequences of them, let's you know that the guys who put this together were just grabbing footage from the trailers, not even from the movie itself) They didn't cut off the video at the right frames for the shots!
I don't know if I caught all of them, but six is enough.

I know this may come off as being very sheep and bitchy, complaining about six frames that are incorrect, but c'mon! This is supposed to be a proffessionally done music video! At certain points, I think the guy who did this has the right idea or is trying something interesting, but god damn, I could've edited a better video! I actually would've double-checked and watched the thing when I was done renderring the edit to see if I fucked anything up, and if I did, I WOULD'VE FIXED IT before sending it out! I also could've edited it WITH Behind-The-Scenes and orchestra footage! Hyper-Space shit alone would've covered that department! Now, I do realize that they didn't put that stuff in because "A Hero Falls" is one of the many videos on the Soundtrack's DVD, and none of those videos have orchestra or BTS footage. Thats cool then.

BUT, what is NOT cool, and actually kinda scary, is the thought that all of the videos on this Soundtrack DVD that I have been looking forward to are edited by the same people who did this piece of crap.

Am I a crazy sheep, or is anyone else pissed at the thought that we'll all be paying for this DVD full of videos edited by fuckin' amatuers?

It's not gonna keep me up at night, no. But you're right about the poor editing.

I don't think I'm gonna be kept up at night either, Dark Shape, now that I've had a few minutes to calm down. In the end it isn't that big of a deal, but god damn, I was REALLY looking forward to the videos on that DVD. Let's just pray to god (well, I'm an athiest, so let's just hope) that the other videos on the DVD are better than "A Hero Falls."

I didn't have any problems with A Hero Falls.

I think it's great news if there is no behind the scenes shots or LSO in the clips. They always spoiled the experience for me. Enough of that stuff in the documentaries.

I could see your point, West Coast Sutto, that if the focus of the music video is to emphasize the themes of the films, then why do we need to see behind-the-scenes shit at all in the videos? I could understand that, especially since the other videos on the dvd are not going to have BTS footage (which is a good thing IMO, even though I fuckin' loved DOTF and ATS) BUT, not double-checking for bad edits on the one video off the dvd that you KNOW almost every SW fan in the world is going to watch says something about how much whoever did these cares about making them good at all.

Again, maybe I'm being too hard on the editors of the video, especially since even through the shit of the thing, you can kinda tell that they were going for something at a few spots that might've been interesting, but fuck, if they didn't try hard enough for the one thats going to be on TV, then why would they bother doing a better job on the others?

theoam, I agree with your arguments, I think "A Hero Falls" music video was very poorly done. I hope it was a rush job, because the quality of the thing is just plain bad. If some group spent a prolonged amount of time working on that thing, then their jobs should be very insecure ...

On the brighter side, there's some really cool footage in the Music Video that had never been seen before, like that scene where Obi-Wan jumps out of his ship. I was happy for the new footage, which kept me from totally hating the video. Plus the music is good. :)

Oh dear...

Honestly, who really cares?!? As has been pointed out, the BTS stuff was a daft idea as it detracted from the movie feel.

I know it's spoiler heavy here, but isn't it just possible that Lucas said "The trailer's plot heavy enough, no more details!" and so they had to use it?

Besides, the music is amazing and that's all the should really matter...

I concurr with respect to editing.

I liked the video itself, though. My main aomplain was that 90% (or more) of it was just what we had already seen in the release trailer. But then again, that might just be me being spoiled by hanging around here so much lol.

Remember, "A Hero Falls" is not the music video. the same way "Dark Forces Conspire" is not the music video to Episode I and "FAteful Love" is not the music video to Episode II

The "Hero Falls" vid is just like the others on the DVD. It focuses on the music with only a few clips of dialogue. The entire Musical Journey DVD is just that, a MUSICAL journey, with music instead of sound fx.

You all are probably also going to say the "Narrow Escape" vid "fucks ass" because it combines footage from ESB, AOTC and TPM with the asteroid field music from ESB.

This actually does not happen on the DVD. Strange... Could it be just a glitch in the Quicktime version? :?

Well...I just got done watching the DVD...Here is a review I posted on JWFan.Net...and since it applies to be disappointed with the editting, etc...thought you'd enjoy....or at least be informed on an opinion.
=========================================

"Star Wars: A Musical Journey" isn't really quite fair.

"Star Wars: A Collection of Self-Contained Music Videos that have NO REAL Narrative Save a FEW Threads and Ian McDiarmid's Introductions that ALMOST Come Close to Maybe Making This Collection a Cohesive Work" would have made a much better title....I mean...it wouldn't be misleading.

It is an interesting watch, but most of the scenes shown in most of the videos are a jumble mess of images, and some poorly cut. I have no problem if, for example: "A Narrow Escape" is going to combine many narrow escapes from many of the films cut to "The Asteroid Field"...just don't have the intro talk exclusively about TESB's narrow escape...at least warn me I'll see the asteroid chase from AOTC. OR, if "A Daring Rescue" is going to show many daring rescues, don't hype the Death Star escape and make me watch Leia rescue Han from carbonite while listening to the lament for Obi-Wan just before "TIE Attack". Further, someone explain how "A Sanctuary Moon" has anything to do with the Gungan battle from TPM being set to "The Forest Battle Concert Suite"...I mean really.

This is frustrating...especially since I was expecting a "Musical Journey" through the Saga. The narrative, while slightly dry...yields the impression that the forthcoming videography in chronological in documenting the story. Worse than disappointment are the few moments where the editors show they could have in fact done just that. The concluding two videos ("A Life Redeemed" and "A New Day Dawns"), in particular, illustrate that a cohesive storytelling effort would have been magical...and ultimately more successful.

Thankfully...this is only a freebie...not a hyped release, doomed for disappointment.

Thanks...T - OUT!

Too much EpIII? Nah..."A Hero Falls" is it.

Unless you mean in general hype for the film itself...then still no.

Musical Jouney fails because every person in the credits of that thing needs to be dragged out into the street and shot.
