Hi all. I hope this is ok to post.

The Cannes Film Festival web site announces that they will be showing EIII with a duration of 2 hours and 20 minutes.

They post the opening movie for the competition to be LEMMING, but no word on the rumour that EPIII will open the festival.

Star Wars Episode III is opening the film festival, not in the competition. It's not in competition at all, which is why it is listed later. It isn't a rumor that it's opening the festival, it's been officially confirmed in the past.

AOTC would have flowed alot better had they cut MORE out (not as much as the IMAX version, but still quite a bit).

2 h 10 minutes is fine.

ROTS will be screened on sunday at 7:00 PM in Palais du Cinema. And the press screening will be on sunday morning.

At least press release says so.

I thought the IMAX was better. (I remember they cut some of the meadow scenes and that made me smile)

As for length, I always thought Lucas said that this would be the shortest of the trilogy so I'm not surprised, nor am I caring. The time is good.

I didn't like the IMAX as well as the regular cut. I remember thinking Palpatine almost completely disappeared from the film.

No, the IMAX cut should be the official AOTC cut.

I'm still holding out for the length as reported by the BBFC when they rate it for us UK'ers before i call it 'official'

Thanks for the corrections, Duke...

I think that 2.10 is ok for the movie. I would love to see more, though...

I'd love to say it's my work Vodka, but it's from the TV spots thread. All credit goes to Slemn3. Though i'd much rather have had this one, if it wasn't a little on the large side:

Back on topic, most UK cinemas still have Sith's length at 2hr 20mins. As long as the movie works well, 2hr 10 or 2hr 20, i'll be happy.

I didn't see the IMAX cut. Is there really more thought behind it then just cutting out some random non-action scenes?

Well the arclight theaters list ROTS 2:21...sounds much more like it.

2:10...is short. And how is this official? The cannes website time is speculation like every other site. Unless the OS has it, its not offical.

nice. Thank you.

Apparently some of the major media sources have seen the movie - Time, Rolling Stone, etc. - anybody know anything about this or know when the TIME ROTS issue will be coming out?

Not 100% sure. The last issue was released on April the 25th, it's a weekly magazine so first May issue will 1st May i think. Whetether that's the ROTS mag i don't know. I would have thought if magazine writers had seen the film an official esque review would have leaked by now.

I don't recall. Did the OS have an official running time announcement for AOTC?

Maybe it's 2:10 without credits, 2:20 with credits.

AOTC was 2:15 without the credits so 2:10 for ROTS sounds about right. Hey, as long as it flows well, gets across all the information it needs to get across and doesn't have any of the bizarro edits in the fight scenes like AOTC did, it'll be fine by me.

After reading the novel, I hope they take out or shorten all the "Anakin talks to different people." It's about 1/3 of the whole book. :?

Well the same people who editing AOTC are working on ROTS. Unless Lucas really listened to Spielbergs and coppelas comments, why would it have a perfect pacing? If you get what i man...

But in the end, sure. If they movie is well paced at 2:10 thats fine. But from reading the script and all it just seems like that they will have no other choice but to rush it a bit...then again, i could be wrong (hopefully)

No. Roger Barton did not work on AOTC, and he was brought on to Episode 3 to address those problems - pacing during non action scenes.

Actually, Barton was brought on to edit the action, I thought, and Burtt, because he tightened up AOTC so well, is doing the non-action.

I don't really know, of course, but hey, it's teh Internet.

I always thought it was the "internets."

Edit: Also Fatboy I was pretty sure barton was doing the non action scenes. I thought?

The length seems fine to me. AOTC was too long. I like a fast-paced movie. As long as Episode III has plenty of action and no boring ass or unnecessary scenes like Anakin talking about his feelings or some alien creature farting, I'll be happy.

I'm fine with angry feelings. Anger = people dying. I meant romance.

Arena Grand has it listed as 142 minutes. Could be wrong, but I felt like contributing.

The running time for Episode III including previews is 2hrs. 35min. Which makes the movie somewhere between 2hrs. 20 - 25 min. So yes, the info is accurate. I work at an AMC Theater in So. Cali and we have the information entered into the computer since the tickets have gone on sale.

140 minutes is cool. without end credits you still have 135 minutes left, that's what lucas was aiming for.

I can live with 2:20, although i'll be buying special edition on DVD, so there will be alot more footage to watch, deleted scenes, making of EP3 etc...

McCalumm (sorry for misspelling) said this in an interview at Celebration III 22 April that: - ROTS has a final running time of 2 hours 11 minutes. Lucas finished the film on Tuesday and screening it with Steven Spielberg.
Credit to TheForce.net.
