I've made a very rough cut of both the ROTS trailers in some form of chronological order, if anyone is interested (it should be ok to post this now seeing as the OS has put the trailer up for non-hs members.)

i'm giving it a crack at it as well since i loved this idea (and especially after watching the lord of the rings trailer). civil_dissident, i'm using scenes from the movies instead of the trailers, to kind of make it like a short movie of the whole saga. talk to me if you may want to work together or something.

If I might ask, how did you edit the video? I tried to open them in Adobe Premiere, and it wouldn't open them, presumably because LFL set the mov file to be unsavable. How did you do it?

Assuming you have QT Pro:

Drag the trailer file (the actual file icon from the folder, not the video from a QT window) onto another un-copyrighted qt video that you have already opened; then extract the trailer video and audio, and hey presto you should have an un-copy-protected trailer that you can save and edit in Premiere

It's gonna be a tough job. I mean just think of all the subtleties you want to get in there, and the transition from movie to movie will be difficult as welll too. Lord of the Rings didn't have a huge time gap in between movies so it functioned as one big movie. For Star Wars in order to make that work you kindof have to ignore the plot and go for the character aspects.

I LOVE the Star Wars.com trailer on the SE VHS set. It is so awesome. I hope they do something with DoF with stuff from all six films.

I've started doing one for the OT, and I'm keeping to that for the moment, mainly because of issues with DVD-quality PT material (I have regional issues with the DVDs I have). Hopefully, I'll be able to get some soon from some friends, so I'll get on connecting the whole thing. Hopefully, when it's done, I'll do my best to get it up here.

Welp, I have been watching this post for a while now, and trying to hold back my urge to take this on... but I think im gonna give it a go as well.

I have pretty damned limited (im being generous) experience in vid editing, knowing only what i have tought myself. I dont even know how to make credits for lords sake... but one day, after discovering music videos made from final fantasy games, I decided to try that. it was about a year and a half ago...

14 hours and one sore ass later, I came up with this:

http://www.avaloncomputers.com/wesman/DontCry_FFX.avi

Anyway, its not great by any means, but i think its a nice first effort.

Im not too keen on the idea of just using the trailers for the 'mega trailer', as I like to put my own story together, so im in the process of ripping and encoding all 5 SW movies from DVD to the HDD (hell I even ripped clone wars DVD and have the new season as well, though I doubt I'll use any of them) then I'll get to editing. (Gordian Knot. which basically uses DVD decrypeter, DVD2AVI, and a modden VirtualDub.)

unfortunately, this is a spare time only deal, which I have very little of, so dont expect it anytime 'real' soon. but Im dying to try my hand either way :) Im also really looking forward to what you other guys come up with :)

Hey guys, I'm new around here.

I've been trying to edit together a trailer, but I can't seem to edit it in Adobe Premiere.

Just wondering what program you guys use to edit the files togther. I used Gordian Knot to turn the files into .avi files, but premiere won't import them. I tried using virtual dub, but it seemed pretty lacking.

btw, love the end of you're trailer, Vanda, the numbers work great.

Thanks for the help. Looks like I've finally found a combo that will work, but it's going to take like twelve hours to convert (to .avi w/ Indeo 5.10 video codec). It's the only codec I could get to open in an editor.

You guys have the same trouble with it taking forever to convert.

Oh well, I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. No matter how long this takes me to figure out, I'm getting it done. ;) This is going to be SO much fun once I get the technical stuff figured out. :chewbacca:

guys i really was wanting to do this with dialogue, but it doesnt look promising, which sucks because i really think the trailers are gonna suck without the dialogue / sound fx...

anyone here know a program i can use, or a reasonable way to lower the the sound of the music enough so that just the speech and SFX are audible?

Assuming your talking about getting the music from the original movies to disappear (so your new score can be heard w/out the second one underneath it, right?). As far as I know it can't really be done (though I'm far from an expert).

I think if the sound is 5.1 you should be able to separate the channels at best. In that case there's probably a way to isolate ONLY the dialogue (but I don't know how). I think the sound FX and music are mixed together though and can't be separated out.

I've been noticing the same problem as I try to get my stuff going. Some moments in the OT with Luke talking, and quotes I was hoping to use, have some music underneath them which won't work.

The only way around it I see is either a butchered score over the trailer, or carefully selecting dialogue scenes w/out too much music, which pretty much fucks up all the excited Falcon dialogue scenes.

Anyone else trying this and have a workaround or suggestion. Other fans make trailers, so I'd imagine there's some approach.

Unless you were talking about lowering your mixed score or whatever your using for the trailer Wesman, that should be easy. ;)

nope, you were right the first time.

gonna set it all to music I'll mix, then insert the dialogue/sfx on top... that was the plan anyway. maybe if i can isolate the center chanel of the audio 5.1....

i'll look into it tomorrow, time for school now :)

I've alot of experience with Adobe Primiere and music video making with it. Once ROTS is out and I can use footage directly from it along with my other Trilogy DVDs, I will put together the ultimate Star Wars Music Video, I am hoping to make it around 10 minutes long

Just download DVD Shrink. It's freeware, and pretty easy stuff to use.

Very true. It's helped me a ton. Plus if you don't know crap about dycrypting DVD's, you can still most likely figure it out on your own. Easy software.

Another plus side, is that it's totally free (freeware), so you won't have to waste time finding it on bittorrent. In fact here's the web address:
http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html

Quick download and install, and there ya go. The only other thing you need is a PC with a DVD ROM drive to read the DVD's.

At last I can post in this thread. I observed this thread when it started, because I want to make a saga trailer when I have the possibility to make one (perhaps when the DVD comes out).

Because of problems while uploading I "forgot" my project in the last weeks. I've made a teaser, which encludes scenes from the battle between Mace and Palpatine and Anakin and Obi-Wan. My source are the links for the workprint which were posted here after ROTS came out. Because of this the quality is not perfect.

Nevertheless I want to show you my first teaser and I want to collect opinions and statements from you. :)

I will post the ysi-link in code because I think then he's longer alive. And when the link is dead, please upload it, these are just 7 MB. Thx. :)

My first suggestions are to find the clean rip of III and then adjust the aspect ratio. Also, what kind of trailor are you creating? A comprehenise trailor telling a story? Or are you aiming for something that would be teaser for the whole saga? Either way, I think you shouldn't include some scenes (Anakin burning, Mace getting his hand chopped off), it reveals too much about the story and to be honest, it's a little jarring to watch. Just an opinion.

Also, if you need someone to edit the music, I'd be willing to help as I have some good music programs. PM me and let me know. I would just need episodes IV-VI OST.

Omg, I thought this thread was deleted because I didn't find it. :whateva:

Ok, at this time, I didn't have a clean rip of Episode III of course. That was just a little "test", this video which I've posted. Now I have the Episode III DVD of course and so, things will get better and especially the quality of the picture will be better.

At the moment I am working at this saga trailer. I've found programmes to convert the film files into mpeg so that I can work with it.

This saga trailer will not be a teaser. I will tell the story of the Star Wars, with the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker. The trailer begins with footage from all six films, then there will be a part for Episode I, then Episode II and so on.

But I think these two scenes with Anakin burning and Mace shouting could be included beacause I have to tell what Anakin does and finally how he ends.
