I attemped to assign reel numbers and sequence numbers based upon 'The Making of' final chapter, I think this is close to 'movie sequence':

01 (1M3/1M4/1M4a)- Star Wars and The Revenge Of The Sith 7:31
13 (2M5) - Grievous Speaks to Lord Sidious 2:49
02 (2M6) - Anakin's Dream 4:46
07 (3M8?)- Grievous and the Droids 3:28
05 (4M4/4M4a)- General Grievous 4:07
08 (4M5a)- Padme's Ruminations 3:17
06 (5M1)- Palpatine's Teachings 5:25
11 (5M3?/5M6?)- Enter Lord Vader 4:14
10 (5M7)- Anakin's Dark Deeds 4:05
04 (6M1)- Anakin's Betrayal 4:04
03 (6M4)- Battle Of The Heroes 3:42
09 (6M7)- Anakin vs. Obi-Wan 3:57
12 (7M1)- The Immolation Scene 2:42
14 (7M3/7M4/7M6)- The Birth Of The Twins and Padme's Destiny 3:37
15 (7M7/7M8))- A New Hope and End Credits 13:06

The only one I'm not sure about is 'Enter Lord Vader'.

EDIT: I just noticed 'Revenge of the Sith' is '6M9' ... in that case after the opening it would look like this (now I'm confused):

01 (1M2? & 6M9)- Star Wars and The Revenge Of The Sith 7:31
13 (2M5) - Grievous Speaks to Lord Sidious 2:49
02 (2M6) - Anakin's Dream 4:46
07 (3M8?)- Grievous and the Droids 3:28
05 (4M4/4M4a)- General Grievous 4:07
08 (4M5a)- Padme's Ruminations 3:17
06 (5M1)- Palpatine's Teachings 5:25
11 (5M3?/5M6?)- Enter Lord Vader 4:14
10 (5M7)- Anakin's Dark Deeds 4:05
04 (6M1)- Anakin's Betrayal 4:04
03 (6M4)- Battle Of The Heroes 3:42
09 (6M7)- Anakin vs. Obi-Wan 3:57
01 (1M2? & 6M9)- Star Wars and The Revenge Of The Sith 7:31
12 (7M1)- The Immolation Scene 2:42
14 (7M3/7M4/7M6)- The Birth Of The Twins and Padme's Destiny 3:37
15 (7M7/7M8))- A New Hope and End Credits 13:06

Man the cue that kicks in at 3:18 of Anakin's Dark Deeds. Heavy.

This soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in a long time.

Well, Battle of the Heroes definitely grows on you. It's catchy. I can't get the dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun thing out of my head.

I thought it was stupid how all Williams did was speed up all of the old OT tracks, but now I've come to appreciate it. Makes the most sense anyway, in most contexts. Clash of the Lightsabers had to be sped up to meet the speed of the new duel etc.

Thanks again DP.

Just started listening now - has anyone worked out where the music from the 'Tragedy' TV Ad fits in?

[EDIT] Stupid of me - it's the most obvious track there is, Battle of the Heroes. Sorry :)

Hey, Zelda fans, the main nine notes of Battle of the Heroes remind you of Ocarina of Time at all? It feels very familar, like the Shadow Temple melody.

Guess I'm in the minority here, but I think it too much pick-n-choose from the preivous movies and thrown together here. IMO, it sounds more like a "best of Star Wars". Imperial march, binary sunset (force theme), and anakin & padme's theme, sure of coarse they should be there, but Leia's theme, clash of the lightsabers, qui-gon's funeral, throne room, battle of naboo music (can't remember that track name), etc it all feels out of place.

But hey first impression soundtracks always sound better when you can imagine the movie it goes to, and I have only listened to it once. But I do love the fight music not at all reminecient of DOTF like I was expecting it to be. When's this come out again. If memory serves, it was April 23 last time around.

Your lordship Darth Psychotic...

This was a great surprise for the weekend. Into the CD player in my truck, whipping through the Green Mountains near my home in Vermont, cranking this baby UP with the windows down! As my ex governor would say YYYYeeeeahhh!

Oh, the music? Excellent (but that's hardly a surprise). What is a delight is to note how varied and mature this work sounds. Williams has managed to expand the SW motifs while creating a wonderous dense score that sounds different from the previous ones. A special fav of mine (so far) is "Padme's ruminations delightful dark and moody. I also enjoy the sweeping choirwork of "Battle of the Heroes"..."Palpitine's Teachings" does that contain some of the eerie music we'll see with the Jedi Confrontaion of Sidoius(Mace's duel) scenes? Could be.

The end title suite actually made me catch my breath we're going to hear Leia's theme pulsing in the theater again! Wonderful!!
This is great what a way to help heighten anticipation just wrapped listening to the audiobook and now this!

Thanks again Darth Psychotic you're the best!

Just loaded it into my iPod. Great stuff so far; thanks for posting this.

I think this soundtrack proves once and for all that Williams (much like Lucas) has not peaked and is not over his creative prime.

I have to agree with the poster who said BOTH is more 'epic' than DOTF - as soon as I heard the TV spot I thought that - but with the full track it really has been proven. It feels like something historic is happening.

Williams is clearly the 2nd most important human next to Lucas as far as SW goes.

"This version seems to be incomplete, because the wonderful http://jeditemppeli.net/soundtrack/battleofheroes.mp3 is nowhere to be found in it."

That isnt in the music because that is a horrible midi file rendition of Battle of the Heroes made for cell phones. It is not actually from the movie.

On the soundtrack,

I do believe now that the only direction that Lucas gave to Williams was "Make Howard Shore your bitch!"

Three years of hearing amazing things about LOTR has sparked Lucas to his highest levels of creativity!

I don't think it was either. I just think that Lucas has always been able to do better, to up his performance level, above that of what he gave us for the first two prequels.

And I think he's about to deliver.

Howard Shore isn't the archetypal theme-based leitmotif composer... as Williams is. Shore was an odd choice for LotR unless Jackson didn't want a theme-based score. But that's what he got. There are lots of other epic-score composers out there who'd have come to my mind first, at least. But people seem to really like Shore's valiant attempt, which to my ears consists of repeating the one theme over and over and over and over and over until the credits roll. But to each his own... LotR was insufferably boring to me anyway.

Now that I've had some time to absorb (to a certain degree) the soundtrack, the one cue that I keep coming back to in my mind is "Padme's Ruminations."

From the atmospheric openning to its emotionally tense finale, the mood this piece creates is, in some ways, decidedly un-"Star Wars," yet wholly appropriate for this last chapter in the saga. I am reminded of Peter Gabriel's landmark work on "Passion," his soundtrack for Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ," in the sense that "Padme's Ruminations" is both cerebral and heartfelt.

Of course it's a competition. Not among anyone who actually worked on either film series, though. It's a competition solely among people who have convinced themselves that they can only enjoy one film.

The DVD portion of the Album isn't released until May along with the 'official' CD-soundtrack. I've heard that through official Sony channels. So I don't think I'll be getting it any earlier than May 1st...

Either way, it's doubtful it'll be leaked sooner - nor should it be.

If the release date of the soundtrack's DVD is less than a month away (which it is), then there's definitely already a master copy -- and if there's a master copy, then it can be leaked at any time. I give it another week.

After doing a comparison of the Illustrated Screenplay and the 'Making of RotS, Final Chapter' cue list, 'Palpatine's Teachings' most likely come earlier (before I had it at the 'do what must be done scene'). Here's a list of all the cues that Williams recorded:

The column info reads (reel/cue [1M3 is reel 1, cue 3], tentative title, and my attempt at placing the scene according to the illustrated screen play).

Code:
1M3  Boys into Battle       (2-5)
1M4  They're Coming Around  (6-7)
1M4a Get 'em, R-2!          (8)
1M5  The Elevator Scene     (22-36,45,52,53,54)
1M6  Count Dooku's Entrace  (38)
1M7  The Death of Dooku     (39)

2M1  [no title]                     (40-62?)
2M3  Another Happy Landing          (63-68)
2M4  Revisiting Padmé               (70)
2M5  Grievous Travels to Palpatine  (71)
2M6  Scenes and Dreams              (73-76,77?)
2M7  Be Careful of Your Friend      (78-79)

3M1  Council Meeting            (80-81?,82-83,84-86?)
3M2  Hold Me                    (87)
3M2a Palpatine's TV Set         (88)
3M3  Palpatine's Big Pitch      (88)
3M5  Good-Bye, Old Friend       (96-97)
3M6  Going to Utapau            (98-99)
3M7  Riding the Lizard          (109-110)
3M8  Obi-Wan Fares [sic] Droids (112-114)

4M1a Good Guys Arrive           (116)
4M1x Drawing Swords             (117?)
4M3  Palpatine's Seduction      (118)
4M4  Rolling with Grievous      (120-122)
4M4a Fighting with Grievous     (123)
4M5  Dialouge with Mace         (124)
4M5a Padmé's Ruminations        (125)
4M6  I Am the Senate            (126-127)

5M1  Palpatine Instructs Anakin          (130)
5M3  Lament                              (131-146?)
5M3a Bail's Escape                       (147-149)
5M4  Swimming, Droids, and Yoda Farewell (150-153)
5M5  News of the Attack                  (154-156?)
5M6  Moving Things Along                 (157-168?)
5M7  Anakin's Dark Deeds                 (169-183)

6M1  It Can't Be         (185, 186-187? 188-190?)
6M2  A Moody Trip        (191-192)
6M3  Padmé's Visit       (193-195)
6M4  Heroes Collide      (196-198?)
6M5  **Choir Only**      (199-202?)
6M6  Yoda Falls          (203)
6M7  The Boys Continue   (204-206)
6M8  Rev. Yoda to Exile  (207-211)
6M9  Revenge of the Sith (212-214)

7M1  The Immolation Scene   (215)
7M2  Anakin Crawling        (215)
7M3  The Birth of the Twins (216-229)
7M4  The Death of Padmé     (230-231)
7M5  Plans for the Twins    (232-234)
7M6  Padmé's Funeral        (235)
7M7  A Home for the Twins   (237-240)
7M8  End Credits

'Palpatine's Teachings' is most likely 'Palpatine's Seduction', and not 'Palpatine Instructs Anakin'. So here's the revised 'movie sequence' list:

Code:
01 (1M2? & 6M9) - Star Wars and The Revenge Of The Sith (0:00-1:24) 7:31
13 (2M5)        - Grievous Speaks to Lord Sidious 2:49
02 (2M6)        - Anakin's Dream 4:46
07 (3M8?)       - Grievous and the Droids 3:28
06 (4M3? 5M1?)  - Palpatine's Teachings 5:25
05 (4M4/4M4a)   - General Grievous 4:07
08 (4M5a)       - Padme's Ruminations 3:17
11 (5M3?/5M6?)  - Enter Lord Vader 4:14
10 (5M7)        - Anakin's Dark Deeds 4:05
04 (6M1)        - Anakin's Betrayal 4:04
03 (6M4)        - Battle Of The Heroes 3:42
09 (6M7)        - Anakin vs. Obi-Wan 3:57
01 (1M2? & 6M9) - Star Wars and The Revenge Of The Sith (1:25-7:31) 7:31
12 (7M1)        - The Immolation Scene 2:42
14 (7M3/7M4/7M6)- The Birth Of The Twins and Padme's Destiny 3:37
15 (7M7/7M8))   - A New Hope and End Credits 13:06

Track 9 (Obiwan versus Anakin) is my favorite track.

I am not impressed with Battle of the Heroes. It doesnt move me. Reminds me too much of Harry Potter.

This is a good soundtrack. I think its better than AOTC. Here is how I grade all 6 soundtracks, from best to worst:

Empire Strikes back A+
A New Hope A
Return of the Jedi A-
Phantom Menace A-
Revenge of the Sith B+
Attack of the Clones C+

I disagree. Filmmaking demands a larger-than-normal ego of the individual, and those with sizeable egos are highly competitive.

Some filmmakers are just better at controlling their egos than others.

Ok guys, im hammered as fuck, but I'll tell you this.

After listening to the soundtrack about 3 times i'll tell you it's going to be amazing. I guarantee there are at least 3 themes absent, that means we got a whole lot to sink our teeth in. There's alot that connects to the OT, and overall, it's one fine piece of music.

God bless JW.

Anyone feel that the sad Leia and Luke medley at track 15, does not transition well into the 'Happy' sounding end credits theme? In fact, the end theme comes up a little too abruptly. Considering the tragic events that take place in this movie, they could have worked on the transition a little better.

I was disappointed that Luke and Leia's theme from ROTJ didn't make it into the ROTS soundtrack (Birth if the Twins), as it would have a powerful connection to the OT. That aside, it was awesome.

That's your opinion on TPM and AOTC, not everyone's though. So if you were already dissapointed with the last two, I'm sure you'll find things to detest in ROTS.

Well, for the record, I'm not so much defending this guy in particular as the principle. I think your argument can be turned around on itself: a lot of the praisers have long since lost their ability to see Star Wars for what it might be because it's so connected with nostalgia and childhood, and all sorts of good stuff. That's equally personal and equally destructive to objectivity. But you and I are pretty much in a draw here, because you really could argue both directions ad infinitum.

And you're right, I do offer decisive and unqualified opinions, because I'm honest, and I don't think life is a popularity contest... and in the end, Star Wars will soon be on television selling people long distance service, so this is truly the last hurrah. Oh well... the debate goes on.

To chime in with my drunk 2 cents.

There are 3 types of people who will see ROTS now that I think of it 4

1. The guy who hates the prequels and will no doubt hate ROTS just in spite of Lucas.
2. The guy who likes the prequels and likes ROTS just because he convinces himself he likes it.
3. The open minded guy who judges the movies based on their merits and not pre-conceived bullshit.
4. The average schmuck who will probably love the movie because it'll be entertaining as hell.

Fact of the matter is, the movie will work for some, not for others. And who gives a shit. If it's not your forte, then sucks balls to be you, but if it is great. Don't expect any of these movies to appeal to all people. Society has had 30 long years to deliberate about what ROTS should be about. If it doesn't fit that picture, to most fans it'll most likely suck that's just human nature. But others will likely enjoy it....

everyone's an armchair director/critic nowadays.
