I dont understand when people use this in any discussion. should this be the response to every opinion in history? if this is the case then this whole thread and almost every other thread that has opinions should never be started and deleted. If this is the case then every Star Wars fan that has an issue and commented on with the way George Lucas has made his OT, the Special Editions and now the PT should be reprimanded with "You do Better" and be done with it.

Exactly my thoughts.

The only thing I truly, really dislike is the Musical Number in ROTJ. I've tried and tried, but I have to turn away. And the way the actors seem to be half-assing throughout the middle third of the movie.

Empire DVD irks me because of that horribly crappy Artoo cgi on the way to Dagobah. One shot where the blue around his "eyehole" suddenly cuts in diameter in half. So obvious that I can't believe it didn't get fixed. Guess I might not've even noticed if someone didn't point it out to me. But once you see it, it's just so obvious. Nitpicky, I know, but the one flaw in my fav movie.

Other than that, I pretty much enjoy everything. Even the Prequals.

the shitty editing in ESB when after vader says "it was almost too easy" or whatever... his lightsaber blade goes out for a split second, showing the prop blade as he throws the switch in the carbon freezing chamber.

Obi-wan's padawan braid switching sides on Tatooine in TPM.

the ONLY jar-jar gripe of mine is when qui-gon, obi, and jar-jar are sneaking around Naboo, about to ambush the droids escorting the queen...they jump, jar-jar is hanging on to the balcony on the right side... and then he falls infront of the camera on the left side as he yelps "woohoo" or some shit. it's like they wanted to make sure you understand that jar-jar fell.

The magical color changing lightsabers the new dvds... what the fuck???? luke's saber in ANH: its blue... then sea green, then white, and then blue again??? vader's saber in ESB: more like the prequel sabers...Vader's saber in ROTJ: pink?? solid red?? what?? lazy. plain lazy.

PS- I enjoy all of the films, but AOTC is my least favorite, because of the excess CGI and ultra soft lighting. when obiwan is sneaking around geonosis, he walks behind a SOLID ROCK wall, and his silhouette is quite visible.

Probably the one thing that really irks me is how they added Hayden in the end of ROTJ, I would have much rather seen Qui-Gon added in beside of them.

why would qui gon want to drop in and wave at luke.
i think having hayden there makes more sense as that is how hayden looked prior to becoming evil. the other actor was originally supposed to look like pre-vader anakin, but now we know he doesnt look like that

the worst moment in the original trilogy is the redemption of Darth Vader.

absolutely unforgivable. even up to the very last minute before he saves Luke he was willing to turn his sister. Sorry don't buy it, its like say at the end of WWII, Hitler apoligizes and all is forgiven.

Well, the Emperor achieves the big things he wanted to in the prequels (killing off the Jedi, taking control of the galaxy, avenging the Sith, etc.), so now he just needs to tie up loose ends (the Senate, etc.)
He probably takes his time sweeping away the Senate because, well, that's his style!

Good question about Vader's ship. Maybe he was shuttle hopping, inspecting some of the other ships in the fleet before making a suprise appearance at the DS2?

The demise of Boba Fett has always gripped my shit ........... the only thing that could have topped that Monty Python inspired dung would have been for vader in the throne room to stand up having tossed Palps ( christ ) , and then tripped on his cloak and followed Palps down the shaft to his death.

The CGI Jabba ( both versions ) from ANH is just tragically wrong.

Binks. About as funny as grapefruit sized piles. Shocking. Even my 5 yr old thinks he's a twat

The good old 'I'm in charge of security my lady' stroppy bastid line from AOTC. Did anyone else just want to reach through the screen and punch him out there and then?

Equally pooh was Anakin's 'They're holding me back' tantrum with Padme in AOTC. That was just shit in too many ways

Ewoks. Arse.

Ohh a allowed to bitch topic...cool.

I really dont like most of the edits done in the OT.

The greedo scene is a dead horse. Its still shit. Jabba scene makes me puke. now WHY they just HAD to show the wampa monster is beyond me. What did it add to the story? They was no way they couldve put some dude in a costume in 1980? come on. The muppets show episode in ROTJ. I mean WHY? Why is the music mix on the ANH dvd so shit? I really couldnt belive what they've done...unprofessional and it also shows that lucas doesnt give a fuck anymore..

PT. hmmm where do i start. I dunno. Im still looking forward to ROTS but the two prequels didnt do anything for me. Not on a story level, emotional level or anything. There was no magic. It was all like "ohhh looky...a total cgi character. Woot it cost $18mill to do that".

The stuff that i liked in the PT is so minimal thats its just not worth making up a list of things i didnt like. Basically most of it. ;)

Thank god that my laserdisk player still works. /me kisses the SW OT laserdisk set.

I always thought it was kind of dumb how Jabba's henchmen just watch Luke catch his lightsaber over the Sarlaac pit. The damn lightsaber is the air for like 3 seconds and they don't even try to shoot him. :mfyd:

Man, that got the biggest laughs in my theater on opening night. But then again, the crowd was pretty much going crazy for everything. Even Threepio's lines in the battle brought down the house.

Pretty much any scene with Jake Loyd in TPM. I'm sorry, I'm sure the kid's a great actor, but under GL's stoic directing the kid sounds like he's trying out for a cheap kindergarten play. Some of his dialogue was probably hard to spit out, but there's no reason to settle for some of the takes they got from that kid. In a couple of the behind the scenes featurettes you can even see John Knoll just sitting there, shaking his head at Loyd's acting. GL could have done better. He SHOULD have done better.

I'd rather be stuck in an elevator with Jar Jar and a bag full of rabid weasels for a week than have to sit and watch a scene performed by the kid wonder, Jake Loyd.

And that sucks because otherwise I consider TPM to be a pretty solid flick. But no matter how hard I try, I can't get myself to watch a complete scene with Jake Loyd in it, and that means LOTs of fast forwarding, something I consider to be sacreligious as a starwars fan.

Jar-Jar's eye-popping shock in the underwater sub when he sees that huge fish. It was so retarded and out of place it felt like "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?".

When Anakin and Padme` are rolling in the fields with potato-cows vibrating in the background as if they have downsyndrome and a head full of sherbert. Then Anakin rides one in pitiful CGI.

The fireplace scene. Need I say more?

The confession is so strikingly bad that I can't even watch it. Anakin has a tantrum, Padme stands there like a mildly suprised board, barely even flinches when he confesses to murdering the sand people, and then says "I hate them!" in the same way a wrist-scarred teen writes in badly structured poetry how he hates his parents.

Darth Vader's "NOOOOOOOOAARGGUURRGGGHLLL!" at the end of RotS.

And I know it's not a moment, but Samuel L. Jackson's stint as Mace Windu. Damn, he was the most awkward Jedi Master on the entire council. Every time he spoke it was if he was painfully aware of the monotone of his voice.

And the worst of all: Padme` combing her hair and looking wistfully at Anakin as they exchange the "you hang up"; "no, you hang up"; "no, you hang up..." dialogue. The Bold and the Beautiful has less cheese and a superior script. Damn.

Except when he's putting down Anakin. (ie "Take a seat" "Not the chancellor" ...that's some funny shit)

But we all know the worst moment was that fucking fart in TPM.

1. the whole 3P0 missing his head debacle. this clumsy humor is not only dragged out far too long but is shit and should be punished.

2. jar-jar’s continuous asshole behavior. his people are dying around him in the end battle and he can’t stop being a fucktwit for one moment and redeem himself.

3. anakin is too young in TPM. bad choice.

4. federation battle droids. 'Roger-Roger' wtf? this is gayness personified and ruined the character for me. at least make your heavies somewhat intimidating.

5. crap yoda puppet that was obviously modeled in a poorly lit room.

6. extremely close lightsaber fights that blur who is doing what. especially in ROTS. either Nick Gilliard couldn't get anything from these two (ani/obi) or nobody on set realized you need to see the fight to enjoy the fight. please explain this to me.

7. the whole 'I do not believe they (sith) could have returned without us knowing' to 'That is the clue we need to unravel this mystery of the Sith' 180 by the jedi council.

8. pacing of the entire TPM movie.

9. padme accepting pretty much everything that comes out of anakin’s mouth in ROTS.

10. everyone losing their lightsabers when they could have used them the most. clumsy bastards.

11. the entire AOTC bar scene and how Zam Wesell and her changeling abilties are not utilized at all. this would have been perfect if she transformed into different patrons througout.

12. dooku/anakin fight with the lights off. boring.

13. anakin fighting w/ two sabers and losing one in a fraction of a second.

14. OBI-WAN: "It's over, Anakin. I have the high ground."

- first off, the successful jump anakin makes from the droid in the lava to the floating platform obi1 is on is sure as shit tighter/closer than his final jump.
- did you see the jump obi1 pulled out of his ass in TPM.
- what about the huge leap anakin made in AOTC?
- even luke in the carbonite chamber pulled it off.
- do you know how fucking far and high anakin had to jump so he wouldn't go over the lava falls.

15. no qui-gon ghost. weak.

17. ewoks. gay.

18. vader being umasked. very upset about this when i was a kid (on the fence about it now).

*this should be split into a 'BrotherTheFirst - Saga Bitching' thread.
*list of things i liked is 10x longer.

And I have one more, and many will disagree:

-- The ending awards ceremony of ANH. It felt so lame and out of place to me. I think it's because it feels like the end not of a part of a movie but of the entire saga; like it was put in there just in case the movie failed.

thats because it was put in there in case the movie failed. Lucas said something along the lines of "I had to make it a good stand alone flick, in case i never got money to do the trilogy, but thankfully, it was hugely successful, which gave me the green light to do Empire"

A New Hope: Darth Vader/Obi-Wan duel - I'm sorry, but with what has come along since, this looks like a fucking joke. When Obi says "You can't win Darth" I always want to laugh (yeah, I know he means about becoming immortally concious in mind and spirit).

The Empire Strikes Back: Luke Scream - Damn. This is hard. Really there is nothing wrong with the movie now*. Back when the SE was released, Luke screaming after he "voluntarily" falls off the platform at the end of the movie was shit. Not only did it sound nothing like Luke Skywalker, why the fuck is he screaming?!? You chose to throw yourself off of it. Have some fucking balls you cocksucker. Anyway, it is gone now so really nothing wrong with this movie.

Return of the Jedi: Jabba the Hut's SE Jug Band - This is strictly a Special Edition/DVD gripe. Whenever any of you are watching this movie with someone else in the room and the band in Jabba's Palace starts playing, do you get really embarrassed? Like "Oh God why the hell am I letting someone see me watch this?". Oh it is just horrible. A VERY close second is the celebration on Endor at the end in the SE. THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ORIGINAL MUSIC FROM RETURN OF THE JEDI AT THE END. Who the fuck decided to change it with this shit?

The Phantom Menace: TIE: Jar Jar buttfucking Binks/ Jake "Quicker and More Intense" Lloyd - Do I really need to explain this one? In one corner we have the stupidest sounding character saying the stupidest lines and looking like he wants one up the rump through the whole movie. And then there's Jar Jar. "My name's Anakin and I'm a person" "Boomdecrasher"

Attack of the Clones: Hayden Christianson - I'll only give you one example. "I miss you.....so much".

Revenge of the Sith: Killing me softly with hairbrush - Say what you will about every romantic scene of AOTC, this fucking scene makes all of it look like Shakespeare. CLIFFNOTES VERSION!:

You're beautiful
I'm in love
no, I'm in love
no, I'm in love
no, I'm in love
no, I'm in love
no, I'm in love
no, I'm in love
no, I'm in love
no, I'm in love
no, I'm in love
You're blind?
Yeah, didn't you notice?
I just thought you had that funny habit of not looking at people when they are talking to you.
Nope, I'm blind....
(excrutiatingly tense silence)
So.....have you ever used a seeing eye tauntaun?

Okay, this isn't the real script but you get the gist. Oh I almost forgot the icing on the cake of this scene.

"Tee-hee".

:what:

I agree with most of your gripes, but the ROTJ SE Celebration music is not only better than the Ewok music, but a more fitting and epic piece to end the saga.

I too am embarassed to sit through the Jabba music scene, but I was for the original one too. If there was no musical number and they just let that toad play the sax while bitches danced it would be a better scene.

He chose to kill the Emperor to save his son...It was Luke's courage to deny the darkside and his love for his father that broke the Emperor's spell over Vader. The darkside may be strong, but love is stronger.

More to the point: if Adolf Hitler had sincerely repented before God and sincerely asked to be redeemed for his sins, well, Christianity says that he would be redeemed. With Vader and the Force, it's the same thing. Anyone who can't see that the key theme of ROTJ is Vader's redemption is a stupid dick.

Don't believe for a second that the entire SW crew, including Georgie, isn't cringing along with you in the love scenes. They're supposed to be yucky, watching two people express their love to eachother always is, and it's done that way to be a complete contrast to the darkness. Sure, they could have been done gracefully. Easily. But then they wouldn't have the disgusting teenager love feel that people can associate with, and feel embarassed over.

I only have one complaint with the entire saga, and that is the "...no, I'm begging you..." line in TPM, by Natalie Portman. That is the worst delivery of any line I have ever seen in any movie. "Begging" was a poor choice of words when it doesn't look like she gives a flying f**k.

Yah. I believe the line goes something like this:

Anakin: "You're so beautiful"
Padmé: "That's because I'm so in love with you"
Anakin: "No, it's because I'm so in love with you"
Padmé: "So love has blinded you?"
Anakin: "That's not exactly what I meant"

Might not be 100% correct, but what the hell.

No the meeting in secret for the first time in Episode III didn't bother me at all. Actually no time when they are together bothers me except the hairbrush scene. That shit is fucked up. It is a horribly written scene, horribly acted scene and really I think that Natalie Portman looks like shit in the scene. For some reason her face looks huge and bulky. Must be the hair. Listen to Hayden when he delivers the first line "You're so.....beautiful". It is so forced. He knows when he says it that he can't pull off that shit. Natalie does a little bit better job but even she can't pull off the "But it's probably true...tee hee." Ugh.

A few new ones from ROTS:

2:Darth Vaders NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
3:Stupid little flying droid watching Anakin and ObiWan duel on Mustafa as they walk across a pipe.
