I work for a music one stop distribution and I received the one sheet today for the soundtrack. It confirms the bonus dvd material. I didn't see the actual music track titles so I'll post them here. The one sheet is awesome. I don't have a scanner or I would scan it for ya'll. The front has suited Vader with his saber pointed down and a light shining out from the bottom. Will the cd be playable on pc and mac? I remember AotC having some sort of lock that prevented playing it on my comp. This, ofcourse, irritated the crap out of me.

I hear that's going to be the title of episode 4...

that's true, nearing the end of the end credits, williams revisited the Throne Room theme, which then fades back into Leia's Theme to end with the familair OT end credits ending theme in a big bang. So I've read in the reports.

As with any Williams score, the end credits are the ones I'm mainly looking forward to, and because there's said to be an emotional version of Leia's theme in the beginning of the end credits, this one is sure to keep me busy for well after War of the Worlds and Memoirs of a Geisha.

Make those tracks available to the masses, ASAP plz.

Sounds like "I am the State" a quote wrongly attributed to Louis XIV, but was actually said by Voltaire in reference to Louis XIV. Either way, it isn't the first time Lucas has blatantly taken a phrase from history and placed it in Star Wars.

I think the use of "Padme's Destiny" rather than "Padme Totally Gets Killed" was a very tasteful way to avoid the spoiler.

There is no cloud city/han & leia music in episode III as far as I'm concerned...

EDIT: btw, that first track kinda makes it sound like an Indiana Jones/Harry Potter movie Star Wars and the Revenge of the Sith

Seriously, I think I'm more excited about this Star Wars soundtrack than any that has been released so far. I can't wait to give it a spin!!

Oh I hope it is Binary Sunset. My favorite track of all the Star Wars Soundtracks.

I'm sure it will be very similar....I'm definately expecting a variation of the force theme to close out the film before the end credits.

Hmm I was told the Dagobah scene was cut, but yeah, if it is still in I'd love to hear a snippet of Yoda's Theme.

Also, according to the reports, we won't hear Leia's theme until the end credits so we'll probably hear something like the Force theme during the shots of the twins on Alderaan and Tatooine.

Either way, it will be beautiful. I have a feeling that after hearing HP3 and The Terminal, Williams totally redeemed himself after his "failure" with AotC (of which we can't really blame him, as he had a pretty busy schedule that year).

No it's far from bad, but I was disappointed that much of the 2nd half of the movie was unscored, and they had to use material from Episode I. Other than that, I probably listen to the AotC soundtrack more than I listen to TPM's. Across the Stars is also definatly one of his better themes, and I love how he blended that at the end with the Imperial March.

I think Across the Stars is nothing short of a masterpiece. What a beautiful, epic, romanitc piece that is. Everytime I hear it, I'm blown away at how brilliant Williams can be at times.

I agree Zeyann that Across the Stars is great. So is the Kamino Mystery Theme and some other items from the 1st half of the movie. But otherwise, AOTC's soundtrack was a spectacular dissapointment.

I was expecting SOME new theme for the Clone Wars. We got nothing. The only new theme was for the Monster Arena battle, and most of that wasn't used anyways. I also thought the music used in the Droid Factory sequence was poor (Using Yoda's theme when Anakin was cutting down droids?).

TPM's score was very good, in my opinion. But I have the feeling Williams is gonna give this last one his all.

Really? Where did you get your CD from? Mine doesn't have any problems.

Another thing I noticed about this soundtrack is that the tracks seem out of order compared to the movie. The Phantom Menace soundtrack was kind of like that as well. Of course, the OT soundtracks were in order. Attack of the Clones was in order as well with some exceptions here and there. I remember getting the Attack of the Clones soundtrack and could kind of put the music with scenes that I read about in the spoilers. Not exactly pinpoint them but you catch my drift? This one is a bit more difficult, especially "Grievous Travels to Palpatine". I don't recall any spoilers of any scenes where Grievous actually goes to Palpatine.

"Attack of the Clones Soundtrack" wasn't a disappointment to me but it is comparatively smaller compared to the other soundtracks. I definitely understand why others are disappointed but I enjoy the music. AOTC, the soundtrack and movie, is more mysterious than the other Star Wars movies which is what I really liked about it.

That's what I was referring to, the special editions. I remember having the original soundtracks on vinyl when I was very young but too young to remember if they were sequenced in order along with the movies.

I have both the SE and the OT soundtracks.

I prefer the Victory Celebration of the SE over the Ewok End Celebration of the OT. I get choked up every time I hear the music swell just as Luke comes into frame to see the force ghosts of Anakin, Obi-wan and Yoda.

Though that somewhat diminished when they put Hayden in there.

That's the thing with GL. The newest version of each film is the ONLY version to him, therefore we get no OT version on the DVD, only the SE - for example.

Oh well, I have all the old stuff anyway, so it doesn't bother me.

I think I would really like the Hayden addition if it didn't look so half assed.

I really hope the final soundtrack backing doesn't say "Grevious." Hopefully their editors are worth a damn.

All of Williams' scores are out of order, not just Star Wars. Jurassic Park OST for example, is a chronological mess (sadly).

True. I remember this from 1977, that the soundtrack album was designed as more of a suite or listening experience rather than a musical chronology of what happens when in the film.

It sort of made sense years ago, because you do get for example the Jedi theme several times in a row if you just sit and listen to the music in order, but now people really want the chronological score, not a composite album.

Who knows. I might actually buy this one. Or more likely get it for my birthday a week after it comes out. *rolls eyes* I almost never buy soundtracks. I own several, but they have been gifts. No one ever knows what to buy me as far as music goes.

Many of Williams recent scores have shown just how versatile he is, and just listening to the music on the end of the trailer made me drool.

That rising and falling high woodwinds/(some 1st violin too?) run layering the Force theme done by a mix of low brass (and none of that bright cornet or trumpet which dominated the most forceful statements of this theme in the OT). It establishes a very different tone than the solo horn or oboe followed by strings that is the best known version of it (the one in the binary sunset scene?).

It beats the conveyor belt music at any rate.

That cue you mentioned is from ROTJ, when Vader picks up the Emperor to throw him down the reactor shaft.

Williams does indeed prefer his soundtracks to be in "suite" form, rather than chronological order, though he seems content to serve them up that way recently, albeit still with concert versions of many of the cues. Actual film cue versions tend to be much shorter, with various odd breaks in them to facilitate recording.

Interestingly. the woman who masters most of his soundtracks at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, Patricia Sullivan Fourstar, told me that at every session she does with him, it is only a matter of time before he says he can't believe people actually listen to film soundtracks because they're so boring. He's got a little hang up about it. His whole career he's been a bit apologetic and insecure about his film scores, which are usually looked down upon by the academic community which matters so much to him. He's written a lot of head-y and totally un-Williams like concert music to prove he's "legit" to the academics, all while being one of the most influential composers for any medium, period. Ironic, isn't it.

I have the CDs of Williams' Violin and Cello Concertos. Those also have a filmic quality to them. The Violin Concerto sounds alot like Korngold and the Cello Concerto sounds as much like Rosza. Both of those composers also wrote film and concert music, and boosted the "seriousness" of film music to a higher level.

I've always felt that any academia who think film music composing is somehow not sophisticated are themselves not very smart...

Hell I'll be listening to it the minute it is leaked. Just like tomorrow night I'll be reading the novel as soon as they put it out on shelves.

This is one of the things I'm most looking forward to... especially the rumblings of reprised themes from the OT. If the music is less melancholy and nondescript like much of AOTC and more thematic like TPM or ESB, it's gonna be up there on my list of favorites.

I agree, and I am lucky enough to have met a few that don't. My composition professor (I am working on my bachelor's in music composition, and hope to eventually get my masters in comp with an emphasis on film scoring) readily accepts it as a high form of art, and often has me write cues for student filmmakers at my university.

And it was mainly Williams and Rosza that have made me want to do film scoring in the first place, because they opened my eyes that you can still create in the medium

(and by the way, Williams' best non-film work is his tuba concerto, IMO)

I haven't heard his Tuba Concerto yet.

The one I like most so far is "TreeSong," which is on the same CD as the Concerto, played by Gil Shaham. It's a very interesting, and even at times dissonant and impressionistic piece. It's not at all one of those pieces that immediately brings "John Williams" to mind when I hear it.

Where were all the chicks like that when I was a young geek?
