That's a scetch of the Wayne Pygram make-up test.

People have said THAT was Ecclestone...looks like they were wrong.

Yeah, people get confused. The one where he's facing left is Eccleston.

Cameo? According to the official site, he's one of the major characters in the film. He at least has more screen time than Chewbacca.

Come to think of it though, there are so many characters that every role might be reduced to a cameo. ;)

Check out official site's cast listing. He has 14th billing in a cast of 50 characters. Judging by that, he should have about as much screen time as Tion Medon, and a bit more screen time than Chewbacca. The characters with little screen time (or cameos) are listed closer to the bottom of the list. Grevious and R2-D2 would be the only exceptions to that rule since human involvement is minimal in the portrayal of their characters.

Concerning the BTH pic of Tarkin...

I think he's been done way too over the top. They should have kept the make-up much more toned-down, rather than this funky ghoulish look. Tarkin was a human being lets not forget, not some sort of Frankenstein's monster. He's also far too pale as others have already commented, as well as the fact that they haven't really thought too much about how much he would age over 20 years; he could have been kept looking much younger (people who watch the series in the correct order in sixty years time or whatever are gonna be like, so that Tarkin guy doesn't age, but Obi Wan goes from being in his prime to an old man... WTF?).

From what I can see, here, Peter Cushing may even have looked younger than this prosthetic in ANH, except for less hair. This guy looks like a creature effect, Peter Cushing was a real person... sigh.

I think he looks great...better than I could have imagined. He's a bit on the "zombie" side, color-wise, but other than that he looks great. I'm sure as a cameo and under proper film lighting, he'll look even better.

My guess is since, as far as we know, his role is limited to just standing in the background for a couple of seconds, they wanted to make sure he was recognizable to a mainstream audience who might just remember him as that "old dude from the Death Star in the first movie."

Lloyd, McGregor and Christensen all have lines and are refered to by name, so they can get away with looking somewhat similar.

Now, if Tarkin does have a line or two and is refered to by name, then I would agree that the prosthetics are unnecesary.

The execution and effectiveness of the make up job is whole other issue, however, and personally, I'll withold judgment until I see it in a final shot under the right lighting conditions.
