When I said that I wanted an explosive ending, I didn't really mean explosions.

More like the music score building... and the action building... and the emotion building to a giant peak at the end.

I think it looks great on the camcorder footage. Hopefully, we'll get a great QT version in a few hours.

That's sorta extreme, isn't it? I mean, I love star wars, but I'm not gonna deny myself sexual release over it.

Hell, I'm cranking one out right now.

HA!

Lukers should be stabbed. So many people viewing the place, just waiting to whore-down a link methinks.

I have a number of friends at ILM and this is exactly what I've been told as well, for what it's worth. Apparently, there's a tremendous amount of hand wringing going on... one went so far as to say that GL has openly solicited for "options".

Now, having produced tons of movie trailers over the years, I can tell you that for most of the studios, this trailer would be an indication of low confidence - it shows tons of money shots, which is usually a bad sign. But in the case of Star Wars, there's probably a billion more money shots, and since Lucas produces them in house, you have to let the typical rules slack a bit.

In the end, I have to agree that the trailer feels more like Star Wars than any other I've seen from Lucas, ever, and it makes the film look great. That's the point of a trailer... this one finally has some decent music (minus that horribly awkward final cue, they never get that right). In any case, we'll have to wait and see about the actual film, but personally, I'm always rooting for these movies.

That's it exactly. They come down on Lucas for not making the Star Wars THEY remember... Which nine times out of ten has nothing to do with what Star Wars is supposed to be all about.

Just got back from seeing this at the cinema in Glasgow in gloriously massive widescreen, there were maybe a dozen or so people in attendance so they were kind enough to play it through 4 times.

Each time the biggest crowd (!) reaction was definitely the Sidious leap at the posse, followed by the Sids/Yoda destruction of the Senate.

Have to say that all the people worrying about Sids' makeup have nothing to fear, under the correct light it looks awesome, the CG which I've felt looked a little "cartoony" at times looks bloody great in motion, the CG troopers in rank behind Anakin are just the cats ass as are the CG Clones bouncing on the deck during the explosions.

Everything looks great, I don't think a trailer has ever psyched me so much, not even TPM.

Roll on May 19th. Sorry if this is gushy, just a bit "woohoo" about the whole thing at the moment.

I've known plenty of people that have worked on entertainment products that have worked overtime and had to kill themselves to finish on-time, and every single one of them loathed the product they were working on. Was the product crappy when it was done? Quite the opposite. Combine this with the fact that it has become "cool" to dislike Star Wars and human nature just rolls in. Now, there are plenty of those that do enjoy it despite it all, and those are the ones chosen for things like interviews and DVD documentary's etc.

You watch the LOTR DVD's and they'll have you think every single person on that project was willing to murder their first born child just to spend an additional 100 hours a week working on those movies. It is just not true. There were plenty of people that were hating life at Weta Digital come the end of the year.

I know people that have actually turned down working on projects that were close to their hearts as fans, specifically because they knew working on it would make them hate it. The fresh out of college kids don't know that and go and work on a Star Wars movie and think it sucks. Meanwhile Joe Fan who has no idea what went into making it thinks it is the greatest thing ever. Nature of the beast.

I know us sheep want to believe that every person involved in making a Star Wars film is a true fan to their core, but it is just not the case. Be glad you are not working on it, and just sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Regardless of everything else, they do have some incredibly talented people guiding this through to completion and if the trailer is any indication, this film should be visually stunning. You should really give a rats ass if those same talented people love the movie or think it is gonna suck.

Hell I'm glad those workers hate it, to me it means that they did a fucking kickass job & worked themselves to death to do it.

As for me I dont care what some "insider" has to say about the film. I have been a fan since the very beginning & I know what these films mean to me. That is the only thing that is important, what they mean to you & how they make you feel. Bottom line is I love StarWars plain & simple. You can call me geek, sheep, or whatever , I just dont care. All I know is that on May 19th 2005 I WILL be in line for this film & I WILL enjoy it no matter what.

One last stop by the boards before IT happens.

1) Some advice - the last ROTS trailer didn't hit any other page but StarWars.com. So, I'd recommend refreshing the main page only. Remember to login to Hyperspace first though. F5 will be your friend.

2) Good luck. I expect downloading it will be a bitch. Also, wish us all luck on a high res capture. Unfortunately, we'll get low res at reduced frame rate. Bastards.

3) Enjoy. This is it... the last big community moment before the LAST Star Wars movie. Not everyone is going to buy the novel and stuff on release. Not everyone is going to go to Celebration. This is the last shared moment before IT IS OVER.

May the Force be With You... one last time. Huzah to MF. I'm glad you're an alternative to the rest. You made the last wait enjoyable.

Some vehicle screencaps:

Mysterious gunship (possibly Separatist) over Kashyyyk (think I see a wookie flying machine in the back as well, strange, thought those were supposed to be catamarans going on water):

Corporate Alliance Droid Tank, good piece of CG:

Aayla, Clones and walkers in the back, you can see the head of a troop transport walker, and an AT-TE (at least I think it is) right behind her:

Amazing Trailer. Just amazing.

I don't think that trailer is any indication that George will drop the ball. anyway, I have it on good authority (Matt Stover the novelization writer who also happens to be one of the best fucking storytellers around) that this is the movie we've been waiting for. And I trust him a hell of a lot more than someone's friend of a friend that's wringing their hands or some shit.

I really loved the final, quiet moments of the trailer. The simple shot of Vader standing next to Palpatine as his heavy, mechanical breathing is juxtaposed with the electronic hum/drum (for lack of a better phrase) that is heard over the white on black credits. It works as a nice counterpoint to the audio/visual madness that precedes it.

General Grevious IS in the trailer fighting Obi-Wan. It is only like a 2 second clip, but he IS there!

He's actually in it twice; once while fighting Obi-Wan, near a starfighter, when you only see his back. And once again after the Mace posse/Palpy confrontation the screen goes blank, then to a fly by, then to Obi-Wan in a hangar full of droids, he is in that shot as well. I just noticed by accident really, but if you "freeze" that fram, he's near the top of the screen, with about 4 of his gaurds. He's, obviously, the big shadowy figure. Pretty awesome.

Without a doubt, the best trailer for a Star Wars film I've ever seen.

My hat's off to Ewok Pudu for taking the time to succinctly explain the truth about filmmaking. I personally wouldn't have given alot of the fucks that much time to still their little fluttering hearts.

But, the man speaks truth.

Thank God I didn't get hired in the art dept. at JAK. I too would hate Star Wars. You can't pull back the goddamned curtain people.

From what I can see (thanks to the HD tv rip version), the color pallette they're using is right on the money. Just watch the interior colors, as well as exteriors like the shot of Bail screaming outside on Coruscant. Very dark, very moody, very dare I say, un-CGI-ish. I thought the colors for the first two prequels were a little bright and too "clean". Looks like ILM is right on the money for making ROTS darker. After all, the themes and story is darker, might as well make the color match the mood. Kudos ILM!

so who thought the most moving part was obi wan yelling you were the chosen one. he seemed pretty emotional, and you can tell theres got to be more stuff that he yells at anakin in that scene.
Oh and does anyone know what planet is the snowy one in the trailer?

Of course your gonna have all the people who want to be the first to say negative things. they think it makes them seem like they are smart, or they are more intuitive than everyone else. it happens with anything that is popular or built up.

Got up at 5:45 am(GMT) turned my PC on loaded up the trailer had a shower, watched the trailer and went to work happy. Looks pretty cool, lots of lightsaber fun, even my Dad thought it looked cool. I'd shown him the teaset earlier on in the week, he asked me if there was going to be lots of fighting in this, too much talking in the other two for his liking.

Jesus Christ, that was a balls-to-the-wall trailer. Pretty much laid out most of the movie, didn't it? Random comments:

- Love the "lightning cam." Lucas is cutting loose now. Nice.

- I never liked the "tank droid" designs, but with the goofy red eyes, it kind of works. Same with the tri-droids. I never cared for the wheeled Juggernaut design either, but it also kinda works. Gives me hope.

- Speaking of droids... holy cow, Obi-Wan versus an army of them! How Will Our Hero Escape?

- That shot of the burning capital ship is utterly wicked.

- Palps charging the Posse looks even better than I had hoped for.

- Mace was right all along - Anakin is a dangerous chump.

- But notice: They showed us the "traditional" plotline, where Anakin is angry because the Jedi are "holding him back." No reveal about his dreams. Nice.

- Squid Lake is cool.

- Grievous is tall.

- Spent shells on a turbolaser... classic Star Wars cheese!

- I dig Grievous's ship.

- I can't believe they showed: Yoda and Sidious fighting; Nute Gunray getting killed; Natalie Portman emoting.

- Nice work driving home that Anakin => Vader, leading the stormtroopers and whatnot.

- Fighting with lightsabers while swinging on chains... top shelf SW cheese!

As for disgruntled workers, let me add that many of them are so bitter largely because they invested tons of effort and emotion in work they believed was cool, only to see it cut, trivialized or emasculated for reasons they don't agree with. Every time they see a flaw, they imagine how much better it would have been if their stupid boss had only listened to them. That's not a slam - they work hard and earn the right to grumble. But burnout rolls downhill, and we're most likely to hear from the guys at the bottom.

For my part, I've learned to take the prequels for what they are. From what I can see, this film has everything I like about them taken to the next level, plus more. Yet the coolest thing about the trailer is that, after two years of piecing together spoilers, I can finally see that Revenge of the Sith is just what I had hoped: another Star Wars film. Simple, corny and spectacular.

With that, it's time to shut down VanillaZinger and wean myself from the spoiler boards. I've learned as much as I want to know. Got to save something for May. To so many people out there - no names, you know who you are - thanks for a great ride on the Spoiler Train. You guys rock!

See you at the midnight show.

Best. Trailer. Ever.

Like every other true SW fan, I'm pretty stunned and speechless right now. But here are still my favorite bits of what I can remember: ALL of the Palpatine lines, especially the "do what must be done..." lines, and hen Palpatine ignites his lightsaber (didn't see that coming there, actually) The dark and angry look of Anakin. The fight between Obi Wan and Anakin in that small corridor (reminded me of ESB Cloud City fight) and of course, Obi Wan's "You were the chosen one" line.

Now that I've seen the high-quality shots from the trailer.

THE POSITIVES

1. The space ship scenes look incredible.

2. As if we didn't know from the first two PT films, Ian McPalpatine is the best actor of the bunch, and if given a chance, he will be incredible.

3. The all-Computer Generated Clones have improved greatly. While I don't like the style design choice of adding more color (I prefer my troopers all white), the Computer Generated work on them is much much better.

4. As Hayden showed me in AotC, he can act evil. Once Ani turns, I think Hayden's acting will be wonderful.

THE NEGATIVES

1. The worst looking shot in the trailer (and there are a couple) is the CG Obi-Wan surrounded by the droids on Geonosis. Probably the second worst shot is the shot with Ewan/Obi-Wan in the forground and the droids behind him. Combine that with the poor-looking mili-second Obi vs. Grevious from behind. Add in the Obi has to ride a Boga (and they couldn't do such effects in AotC well)... and I'm guessing the Obi-Grevious side adventure will be a boring subplot in cartoon land.

But I'm assuming, and you know what happens when you assume.

2. Some of the line reading sound... odd. It is difficult to judge, not seeing them in the context of the scene... but Hayden has some questionable reads... and Ewan's "We're at war" sounds just as odd.

3. Another thing that's impossible to judge, but the Obi/Ani swinging at each other while fighting with lightsabers shot.... You don't want the fight to go over the top and become silly.

Lucas has to walk the line that many martial arts movies do.... incredible action and drama, that despite incredible/supernatural feats, still feels grounded in reality.

4. And the worst negative... we have to wait until May to see the movie :)

The new trailer fuckin' rocked. I watched in on H$ so many times I lost count. This just continues to solidy the movie as on par with ESB.
GL truly saved the best for last. The first two movies were alright, but ROTS? Fuckin' sweet!

Palpy's line were really cool.

"Are you threating me, master jedi?"

and then jumps at the posse. I noticed that when he jumped at him there was this strange Alien scream/whisper. I wonder if thats in the movie or just a sound effect they put in. It sounded evil.

It's about time we get to ehar Palpatine as he truly is.. evil and rotten to the core...

May 19th can't come soon enough....

Getting up at 5am to watch this, reminded me of what it felt like to wait 3hrs to download the TPM teaser over a 33.3k dial-up modem.

But damn, it was certainly worth it. Can’t find the correct words to express just how much I loved the trailer (except maybe fuck, wow, shit…etc…), and how much more excited & impatient I am now for May.

First things that struck me:
· The leap of Palpatine across his office to ‘welcome’ the Jedi Posse.
· I don’t recall seeing General Grievous, only his Magma Guards.
· The Wookie leaping off the droid tank (after placing charge/mine?)
· The sound of the Turbo-laser batteries firing.

But now I am at work, going to have to wait till I get home again to watch frame by frame

and because its the coolest emote :chewbacca:

Great stuff, really looking forward to the Kashyyyk battle, and I loved that 'lightning cam' shot of Yoda. This one does feel like it's gonna be a bit 'grittier' than the rest of the saga in places. Bring it on! :heavymetal:

I personally loved the trailer! i had goosebumps during the entire thing.

I think the reason that they give so much of the plot away is because ultimately we know what is going to happen, so why save ALL the good stuff for the movie? :)

And when old palpy charges forward with his lightsaber and a guttoral scream...Mace knows he is f***ed!

(btw did anyone recognize the scream he lets out? I think i have heard it before, either in "LOTR: Return of the King" or "Jurassic Park")

possibly the wilhelm scream? to me it did sound like something from Jurassic Park. a raptor...

i think we may see the General twice in the trailer.

during the second 'heartbeat/drum', there is a medium/long shot of obi-wan being surrounded. now look where Ewan is staring, that looks like GG to me. its hard to tell from the distance, but it looks like GG (he's flanked by magna guards and really tall). to me, this looks like the scene from the 'back in black' footage, where obi-wan walks towards 3 or 4 green suit guys (filling in as magna guards with staffs) who try to circle him and then he starts dueling with them.

i'm just taking a guess here, but this is probably before the Boga scene, GG sends the magnas to take care of obi. he defeats them and then takes off after GG.

the only scene i didn't really like was the very short clip of obi vs GG. it looked like they were boxing and that idea just kinda seems silly.

Mygeeto.

just watched it again and i totally LOVE the swinging saber shot right near the end.

i figure lucas has had that idea since making ANH (it's a staple of the swashbuckler films he was inspired by), but he just couldn't do it in the OT and hasn't had the chance/or been holding back for it in the PT.

It's hard to tell if the trailer really gives that much away for the average audience. The inclusion of the posse being attacked by the harmless chancellor still surprises me.

À props: I really love the frame at 1:16 (QT-version) with Palps attacking and Kit Fisto turning away and soiling his pants in panic instead of getting in a defensive position - at least it looks as if.
:heavymetal: One of the best scenes of the whole saga, I'd say...

1:26: Are Obi-Wan and Grevious engaged in a FISTFIGHT Obi vs. Jango Fett style? :monocle:

1:34: Yoda looks unbelievable!

1:54: Woah, they actually show the saber wound!

1:57: Finally, she's ACTING!

2:00: I've never seen Yoda horrified - until now!

2:03: Am I the only one who thinks that the CIS capital ships (Invisible hand class) look like World War I battleships?

Very cool design for "ancient" PT ships IMO.

2:07: Again, World War I weaponary. http://www.panzer-archiv.de/images/panz ... eberta.jpg

2:24: Can it get more classic OT than that?

Although being in my early 30ies, I had to giggle like I did when I first saw the ROTJ trailer on TV a long time ago...

Can't wait! :o

The story wasn't really given away. We all know the Emperor was the Chancellor and that Anakin is Vader.

The main key - Padme's death, is what the audience doesnt need to know.

I have the HD Version and I am trying to convert it to a type that is easier to progress through in frame-by-frame (like QT). Does anyone have any insight on how I can do this?

Right now I use WMP to view the file and going through it frame by frame does not seem to be possible. In QT I can view frame-by-frame using the right or left cursor keys easliy. :mfyd:

Hayden is such a boring actor. He always sounds the same. Listen to all of his lines in the trailer and compare the tone to his delivery in Episode 2 and Shattered Glass. He always sounds exactly the same. I don't think he is capable of changing the emotion of his voice.

I know. Who does he think he is, Darth Vader?

My HD version is still on its way down, but assuming it was captured from television, my plan is to reverse-telecine it back to 24fps and then render it out as a frame sequence to get a better look. I can render a QT version of that in pretty much any codec if someone wants to host it...
