This is definitely something for Ternian to answer: When Chancellor Palpatine goes before the Senate and declares that the Republic is dead and the Galactic Empire will replace it, what are his lines? Could this be one of his upcoming spoiler reports?

I'd be surprised if he actually came out and said the republic were dead, at least in so many words... remember, he didn't dissolve the senate until 20 years later. My guess is that we'll see him continue on the arc he started in AOTC - consolidation of power under the guise of security... the old institutions of the republic (jedi, etc) are to no longer be trusted - so he must be trusted... I think that's how he'll sell it.
