Found a site thru eBay selling the Pre-SE Definitive Collection Laserdisc rips.
Anybody have this guy's version of the set? Did I get ripped off?

well actually it's 4 discs, and all togather I paid 30 bucks, inclusing shipping...that's about 7.50 per disc.

Unfortunately I've been trying for a long, long time to find the rips, but have been unable to...it's even tougher now that the major bit torrent sites have been taken down.

Add that to the fact that I only have about a gig and a half left on my hard drive, it's just more convenient for me to do this.

You shouldn't feed the profiteers like that. You should have taken the $30 you spent on these and bought a larger HDD off of eBay. Then you could have done all of us a favor by not feeding the scumbags that simply repackage freely available transfers and sell them.

But oh, well. Now you can feel special because you have OOT! Yay!!!111!!1one

Well sorry. But IMHO, the guy is making it freely and easily available, is willing use his burner and printer to make and package the DVDs, and is shipping them to my home. If he can get the discs to me as quickly as he claims he can, then I don't mind giving him a little compensation for his time and materials.

Well I only ordered the discs last night, so it's probably not too late to cancel the order.

I DO have a burner, but that's not the problem so much as the hard drive space to store the files on prior to burning...I only have a 40 GB HD and it's already full.

The reson I purchased these is because they were apparently the ones I was looking for, the Definitive collection DVDs. Is someone is willing to seed those for a few days so I could download them I would appreciate that.

I need to know now though, so I can cancel the order and get my money back.

There are a couple of different DC sets and they're already seeded in places. You just need to look around a bit for the people bent on preserving the original trilogy.

And DVD-R's don't cost $2, they cost a lot closer to 50¢ (try meritline or supermediastore for cheap DVD-R's). 75¢ with amray cases. Charging you $25 for something that should be $5 (we'll assume he had some good color copies made for covers) is what we call ripping you off.

Problem is I've been trying for several months now to get the sets from various torrent sites and had no luck. Either A) the torrents were mislabeled as being OV but were actually SE or B) they wouldn't even download.

mcd, your set was Definitive collection, right? I've heard it's the best...are there certain filenames I need to look for to find yours? And do you guys know of any torrent sites that generally have a good number of seeders for the file and pretty quick download speeds?

Easiest thing to do is to rip the definitive LD set yourself and burn it. I had so many of them my girllfriend started using them as coasters.

So I hit her

I've been uploading MOST of the latest Star Wars DVD's on the torrents this last 6 months and can point you to the torrents for free downloads if you want to avoid eBay.

We're not FLAMING him, we're FUCKING with him. He got it, as denoted by his winky face at the end of the post you just quoted. And we're not saying he SHOULDN'T buy some, we're saying that if he pays more than the cost of blanks and shipping, then he's paying too much. Which he did. We're not telling him to get a fucking LD player and transfer his own shit. Hell, I'm sure someone PM'd him the address of a certain website you camp out at, and he could comb through the tons and tons of different captures you proudly torrent at myspleen. These are all things that have probably already been done, so you aint tellin anybody shit, and the point you're making doesn't even fucking apply. Stop wagging your fucking finger, you're not educating anyone, especially when you've got Gonzo and Zion in here talking already.

Are you off your fucking meds or something? because you've been acting like a crazed emptyheaded cheerleader on meth for the past week at OT.com.

And your techno Star Wars mixes blow ass. Total Garbage.

Yeah, I'm being a dick. I don't give a fuck.

Neither do I - But it's fun watching whiny ass sheep like you reply to my posts :D

MAN, and then attacking my remix album? Weak man.

Yeah, these are the 2005 Editions of his posts. It's his art Fatboy. These changes important so it fits with his prequel posts.

I finally received them two days ago.

Because I've never seen the Laserdisc version, I really can't tell you how good the transfer is, but it seems decent.

It's non-anamorphic, and there is only one audio track.

The discs were not labeled when they arrived and were not in order inside the case.

I haven't watched the films all the way through yet, but there only appear to be a couple of chapter stops in each film (3, I think). When I tried to fast-forward through the films on my PC, the discs locked up.

The quality of the deleted scenes are crap, but again, I don't know what they looked like on the original Laserdisc. The Anchorhead scene artifacts like crazy, the Sandstorm (I think?) scene looks like a badly-preserved silent film. Lucasfilm Archives looks decent enough, approximately the quality of a 1st generation Betacam SP videocassette at best, 3/4" at worst...about the same level of artifacting on the documentaries as you might find if you were watching on Digital Cable or DSS.

I'll post some screencaps here when I get home from work.

The 3 film-specfic commentaries have burned-in Japanese subs. FROM STAR WARS TO JEDI has no subs but the image is rather murky...I suspect that has more to do with the original transfer...quite a bit of artifacting.

It appears that rather than chapter stops it is divided into 3 titles.

There is only 1 audio track, Dolby 2.0.

Bitrate hovers at about 4.5 to 5.5 Mbps, with peaks occasionally hitting the 8Mbps area.

Here's a few split comparisons. The blurrier part of the image is from the rips, the other is from the official release.
