Holy God, all I know is that you're going to see completed footage of the Dooku/Anakin/Obi fight. Wow.

I don't think he leaves the duel. I think Dooku is executed before Grievous ever shows up. This is possibly backed up by the checklist of cards that we got not too long ago.

Neat webdoc. :)

^ Yeah, i thought the same thing dude - I actually preferred the original "soft move" OB1 made that wasn't digitally enhanced....

But I dunno...looked like bad CGI - could just be a placeholder, they never said it was a final shot.....just 'suggested' it was the final shot of that reel...

....by the by...but that web-doc was almost a carbon copy of one Peter Jackson made over at kongisking.net where they followed one of the reel's they shot for Kong.

Just FYI.....

Best WebDoc Ever. Worst CG Ever....

I really love what they did at the end, and this was easily the most inresting web doc thus far. However, that CG....terrible. Totally unnatural. Maybe it'll look better on the big screen.

It's not bad CG at all, it's just a sudden body movement that's foreign to you.

If you look frame by frame you cannot distinguish between Ewan and the double, when you play it in normal speed it's the sudden jerk from the force push that makes it look 'fake'.

Then again, it's supposed to be a powerful force push...I see where people have complaints: Obi-wan going horizontal. But it isn't the CG you're complaining about, it's the nature of the push.

I do agree that Lucas should've opted to go with a push that would've sent Obi-wan straight back vertically to avoid this type of debate.

Goofy animation seems to be a symptom of CGI, good or bad.

I agree with you that it can, however I just wouldn't hold this one against ILM but rather against Lucas or whoever chose the way Obi-wan would fly backward.

In AOTC during the Jango sequence, alot of the Obi-wan digital stunt double work was great. ILM didn't get worse over 3 years.

I have to agree with the previous posts--Obi looked rubbery in the CGI-enhanced version of that push. Perhaps something that resembled a sharp kick directly to the chest (with his legs following behind somewhat) would look a little more credible.

I'm wondering if maybe this scene got reshot during pickups. There's a date above the shot toward the end of the doc and it's 5-20-04. Reshoots were in August/September. In the Pickups/Reshoots webdoc there's a clip of Obi-Wan being suspended in the air with wires as Dooku shoves his hand toward him. The set diary "Fragments of Action" also describes that clip as Obi-Wan being lifted up off the ground from a force throw.

So there's a possibility that they did reshoot that scene or perhaps Obi-Wan just gets attacked with a force push from Dooku more than once in the fight.

At any rate a spotty 2 second shot is not going to ruin the fight for me. It looks good, hopefully it won't have the editing problems of the AOTC duel.

Charles Martin Smith was in TPM..?

The animation isn't unnatural, it's just not something we're used to seeing. The human body is quite "rubbery" in violent impacts. Anatomy, weight, movement, they all look entirely realistic to me. But people don't want realistic, they want cinematic, and that's an entirely different monster.

I mean, it made Charles Martin Smith cry. If it can make him cry, it should be a decent option, right?

Are you talking about the actor or do you mean Paul Martin Smith, the editor for TPM?

Err, is the webdoc suggesting that Ben Burrt is doing the editing for RotS, or just the pre-editing??? :?

By that time, you could just buy Ep 3 on DVD and call it a "comprehensive spolier collection." :)

Also, did anyone notice that in a shot of the three way duel, Dooku at one point ducks and Obi-Wan's and Anakin's sabre's clash against each other? Good bit of foreshadowing there...

Yeah I noticed that, when Dooku blocks them over his shoulder, right? Too cool. The saber fights in this film are going to be out of control.

the cg dooku head-replacement seemed a lot more real than what was in Ep.2

I've been following ILM and they made some really good advancements with Lemony Snicket as far as CG humans go, so I'm hoping in Episode 3 we'll be seeing this.

No, it's pretty unnatural, man. :) I've seen people fly backwards after being hit by something rather hard, and bodies just don't move like that.

I disagree, but who am I to argue with a man who accidentally makes a Charles Martin Smith reference?

The digital Obi-Wan looks shitty. The animation is too cartoonish. He has no weight.

id say the sight would be very much like someone getting blown off by gale force winds but more centered to a point like standing behind a jet turbine (ouch).
