Doesn't make much sense to me. But I'm sure there's more to it than Ternian has told us about it.

I wish you'd tell us, Tern. 'Cause the sheep on other sites are coming up with all kinds of scenarios and before you know it - IT'LL BE LAW.

This is just a sample quote. It's amazing to see how many fans Yoda has. It looks as if claiming that Mace can do something Yoda cannot is insane or an insult to the gods. Hey - I don't like it, too, but it seem's we have to adjust to it. Manking learned to live with a round earth. If they could manage this, we can live with Mace whipping Sidious!! Rally, men!

I just think we don't have enough specifics to call it either way. I'll wait until Tern spills the beans before giving my opinions.

It's not being about a fan of any particular character.

It just doesn't make sense if Mace beats Sidious, and then Sidious hands Yoda's ass to him.

And once again, it makes perfect logical sense that Sidious ISN'T trying here.

Why did he bait Anakin into getting Mace to come to him, as Tern said?

So he could use Mace A) to frame the Jedi, and B) to turn Anakin.

Agreed. This is the most logical answer. Sidious would purposely allow Mace to 'appear' to threaten his life. I say it's for the Senate footage and also to make Anakin take the bait.

If Palpatine dies, so does Padme. Anakin ain't about to let this happen...no matter what.

SAND-CRAWLER on the JC postulated that Sidious doesn't 'fake' losing, instead he 'chooses' beforehand that he /will/ lose.

Yeah, it may be little more than semantics, but it makes sense to me.

Well, why wouldn't Tern answer the question abotu Palps faking in a very empirical manner, just to make us assume he means Mace kicks Palp's ass?

He seems to enjoy are pointless speculating.

I think Qui-Gon's "love" message is in line with Anakin's "compassion=love" message in AotC. The difference is the degree of attachment.

Anakin is convinced his wife is going to die. He's presented with the choice of accepting power that he believe will save her or...being at peace with himself and accepting that the kind of life and power Sideous offers him would make Anakin not be the person he is.

In the end, he fulfills his own prophesy; not only does that life and power not save her, it causes for her death!

Contrast to some other guy who is faced with a similar choice while he's whacking away at his dad on to hear Sideous goad him on at a critical moment. Luke looks at his hand, connects it with his father, and realizes what making the Sith choice will do, resulting in the best scene of the entire series.

Not knowing that his friends (that he is definetely attached to) are about to succeed on Endor Luke is prepared to sacrifice not only them but himself.

totally agree. i forgot that scene and alswo that luke almost finally did sacrafice himself and friends, something he wasn't willing to do in ESB and it costs him his hand and almost all his friends lives not for lando.

Tern at TF.N: "Sidious does surrender for the approval of the Senate..."

That sounds interesting. In 27 B.C.E, Caesar Augustus carefully arranged some political theatrics where he "surrendered" his powers to the Roman Senate only to have the Senate immediately and "voluntarily" give them back to him.

If Sidious is almost beaten by Mace Windu, the reasoning is in attack of the clones:

Anakin wrote:
Obi-Wan is a great mentor. As wise as Master Yoda

and as powerful as Master Windu.

I think Tern is referring to Sidious "surrendering" so it looks good on the video, not the Roman Senate idea that came to my mind.

How's this?

Motee can play the cryptic spoiler guessing game at TFN.
Ternian can flat out tell us the story without holding back here at MF.

This way, everybody gets what they want. ;)

Plus, the movie has advanced far enough in post-production, that revealing story elements cannot reveal any sources.

While this is true, I think it would've (should've?) been reinforced more had Obi-Wan said to Anakin "If you spent as much time practicing your saber skills as you do your wit you would rival Master WINDU as a swordsman."

I mean, clearly Yoda is good too. And the fact that Yoda is mentioned there is, I'm sure, foreshadowing for Yoda's fight later in the movie. But imagine if it HAD been Mace there. And then we saw how good Yoda was later in the movie. We'd have been thinking "holy shit, Mace must be a bad Mutha Fucka!"

I guess it's moot, though, as Tern seems to have confirmed that the defeat was mostly staged for the cameras. Let me guess - he'll conveniently leave out the part of the video where he unleashes hell on the other 3 Jedi. :D

Mace does nearly outfox Sidious it seems when he almost sends him through the window. And he leaves Papatine on the floor with a chance to finish him off.

But Palpatine anticipated ANakin's arrival, uses him to fend Mace off, and then gets in the final blow with a barrage of lightning.

If it plays out like that, it still works for me.

Oh? I thought Palpatine was the one to throw Mace out a window with force lightning. Was this debunked?

Also, if Palpatine's sword style is "beyond anything we've ever seen", I see no way Mace would be able to out duel him. A lot of contradicting information. Need more details.

I don't think I'd like this at all but I'll throw it out as random specualtion - is it possible that Mace beat Palpatine because, in order to retain his good looks, he must hold back use of the Dark Side? Once he releases his full fury, he'll automatically prune-up?

Hey everyone.
This is my first post here.

I have been browsing the spoilers. Always fun to imagine how things will turn out and I am one of the types who likes to speculate, but I know I won't know for sure until I see the finished product.

Anyway.
Perhaps Palpatine fights Mace as the Chancellor. Ya know? Maybe he keeps his serious darkness hidden until a later date, namely when he knows he will have to face Yoda. So as he fights on a semi advanced level, nothing too impressive, keep in mind, the last time he probably did any dueling was training with Darth Maul, maybe teaching Grievous how to use a lightsaber. So I imagine an out-of-shape but still skilled swordfighting.
He senses Anakin coming, as he knows Anakin will since Anakin is Palpy's errand boy, and then throws on the Oscar face for Anakin. When Anakin gets there and sees Mace and Mace threatens to kill Palp, Anakin realizes that his only hope at saving Padme will be no more. So Anakin steps in, fights as hard as he can and ends up taking off Mace's hand (Trademark. E3 is going to be like Kill Bill was with the feets getting hacked off, only hands). Mace starts shooting the force out of his whole body (Moving things, lightning, push, whatever he has left. I believe SLJ has said that Mace takes somebody with him and in a blaze of glory), taking out whatever he can but by then it's too late and as he releases lightning at Anakin, Sidious overpowers him with lightning and sends him into Coruscant. (Description from MF maybe, or a post note? Dont remember but it described two sets of lightning lighting up the buildings of coruscant).

Then I believe Sidious will keep letting Anakin think that he will tell him the secret to eternal life, so he tags along. THAT is why Anakin will never be able to kill Palpious, because he wants to know the secret.
I have pondered whether or not Anakin will actually know Padme is dead. Maybe Palpatine will convince him she is alive. Last time Anakin lost touch with someone and couldn't save them when he found them he lost it. Perhaps this will happen with Padme and is what will keep Vader at Palpatine's side? All along thinking some day he will know the secret of eternal life.
The ultimate irony being that the secret was with his friends and fellow Jedi(Obi Wan, Yoda and Qui Gon)

Phew.
Let me have it. :)

But if he allows it as a ploy to get Anakin on side, then he is sort of pretending isn't he? This really depends on how the fight plays out. It's very difficult to know without seeing it. I do remember that, in RotJ, there was a look on his face that said Luke never would have connected with his lightsaber even though he seemed to be in a postion to kill Palpatine. This sounds different to the Mace fight in that he seems to actually have been beaten in that fight but, like I said, without seeing it it is very difficult to call.

In ROTJ, Palpatine knew Vader was going to block Lukes strike. *From the spoilers*, it seems that Mace is on the verge of destroying when Anakin gets on the scene, I figure at this point, Sidious reverts to Palpatine and starts to surrender. Mace and Anakin exchange words when it become clear to Anakin that Mace will eliminate the Sith, this is where Palpatine reverts to Sidious, and mentions Padme to Anakin. Mace will try to talk sense to Anakin. Anakin is conflicted, but chooses Padme over Jedi.
Palpatine knew he had Anakin in the palm of his hand when Anakin did not take the opputunity to destroy him when he had revealed himself earlier in the film

I dunno, I'm still not 100% sold on the idea that Palpatine looks like Sidious all the time and is using an illusion power. I still think that Palpatine looks like Palpatine but will degrade physically over the course of the film because of overuse of the dark side. You just need to look at the various pics released lately, he starts out as Palpatine aboard the Invisible Hand, goes a bit funky after fighting Mace and ends up looking like the Emperor after fighting Yoda.

If Anakin were to burst in and see a helpless looking Sidious laying at Mace Windu's mercy, it'd confirm everything Sidious has previously told him about the near-sighted, corrupt and archaic Jedi. And given the spoilers Tern has thrown out about Yoda admitting to Qui-Gon that he didn't allow the Jedi to change with the Galaxy, Sidious is probably quite right.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was actually stated (in AOTC) that Mace is the best swordsman, no? I thought that was fact.

This is one of the reasons I didn' t like Sid useing a Saber in the first place. He is supposed to be the baddest cat in the galaxy, he did over take it. now Useing a saber is going to show his weakness. I don't have a problem with mace almost beating him with one, I have a problem with him fighting back with one. OR maybe that is the point, he fights on thier level with an element he isn't all that cracked up in, just useing saber skills ans no darkside I could see him easily abused by Windu...................

I just don't like seeing SIDs weak :?

I believe Sam Jackson did an interview awhile back (can't find it stfu) saying that Mace would not be going down without a fight. From the earlier reports I had thought Sidious was just going to make Mace and company his bitch. I'm glad thats not the case

the deal about the temple needing to ready for invasion is excellent, considering Anakin will lead the clones (now Stormtroopers) into the Temple once the guard has been let down since he is Jedi, and the temple beacon switched to "return home".

They did something similar in EMPIRE, when Vader is calling out to Luke after the duel...it's a quick one, but does the job.
