I understand why Obi's riding off into the sunset....If he was walking off alone it would give the scene more impact.

All this anti-eopie crap is making me sick... Not that I love the creature, but I see nothing wrong with em either - they're the Tatooine equivelent of a camel. Would you rather Obi-Wan ride off on a Dewback? No, of course not! It's not what he's riding thats irratating people, it's the fact that he's riding something. It's not the way the sheep envisioned it so its wrong - so what happens, they find a PT element they don't like and use that as the reason when the reason is simply the scene playing out different than expected.

One this i wonder is why and eopie, not a dewback? That would tie in some OT. Or just hooded Obi walking with a the point in his hood sticking out ala OT Old Ben saving Luke from Sand People. The Eopie although not something i hate is not something im completely understanding either.

You can disagree with Lucas decision and say that you have a better idea. But it can never be said objectively. The reason why it's annoying when people scream bloody murder about there being an Eopie involved in this monumental scream is just that - lack of objectivity.

It can be argued that the walking into the sunset idea has the best universal appeal because so many people thought of it. However it can also be argued that it's not a very creative idea because so many people thought of it. These people would include chronic stoners, twelve year olds, and half-wits. So the idea isn't exactly a work of genius. I was expecting the walk into the sunset, but I was pleasantly surprised by Lucas' originality.

Will Bail know everything? He obviously finds out padme was pregnant, but since she was hiding it and the fathers indentity he doesn't necesarily need to know anakin is the father. Yoda and obi could just say " yo dude we're jedi we can't raise a kid, you and your wife take her" never even mentioning a brother or that anakin is her father. I never bought that bail would've been able to keep a secret like that from people like Mon Mothma who was there with padme and bail at the begining.

Then again maybe Bail is that cool and keeps a poker face for 20 some years. Sure adds alot of depth to his character, imagine being weighted down with knowing your adopting Darth Vaders daughter and he could figure it out and come calling any time.

My whole gripe was people ripping on the eopie when the real reason is they just didn't like the scene being played out with Obiwan riding an animal or something or other into the sunset.

If you don't like eopies then say "it would have been cooler if he'd rode off on a speeder bike or a dewback". If you just prefered the idea of him walking, then say so like "I'd rather him walk than ride anything"... It's all semantics anyways - comparing him to walking vs the eopie is not an objective comparison, it's like apples and oranges.

I have no objections to objective views - theres a lot of stuff in the PT I dislike. Could I do better? Hell no! So I don't bitch and moan about it.

And Tim, I wasn't singling you out, so chill bro - you have a right to your opinion just like I have a right to mine.

This is nuts. It's his theory because he mentions it in TPM? So what have they been teaching in Jedi school? Does this come from this quoted opening of TPM where Qui-Gon corrects Obi-Wan because, if so, people seem to have come to a whole different conclusion about that scene than I did.

Way I see it, Qui-Gon is correcting Obi-Wan, who is still learning. He's not correcting Yoda. He's correcting Obi-Wan. It sounds like he is even finishing Yoda's teachings himself - "be mindful of the future, but not at the expense of the Living Force". It's Obi-Wan who is still gaining understanding here - Obi-Wan who is being taught. I think people are seeing lines far too literally. It's like the equivalent of a word for word babelfish translation.

Yes, Yoda learns and evolves in the films but, even if it turns out he gets knowledge from Qui-Gon in Ep3, there is nothing to suggest that Qui-Gon had a much better understanding of things than Yoda. Like I've pointed out before, Qui-Gon made just as many mistakes as the other Jedi and was instrumental in their downfall by severely misjudging Anakin's fears, something Yoda spotted straight away.

What meeting did I miss where it was decided that Qui-Gon is all-knowing?

Yep, that all makes sense and I agree with it. Personally I read that opening TPM speech a little differently but I realise that's simply my interpretation of it so I wouldn't presume to say you are wrong about that.

And, yes, Yoda's ways are greatly changed between the PT and OT and I think that's one of the things that makes him such a great teacher for Luke - and possibly a contributing factor to how Luke picked up so much in so little time. Yoda becomes a bit more personal - a bit more mellow. So I completely agree with that.

My main problem with Qui-Gon's way of thinking is that, the way I interpret events (and, again, I realise it's simply my interpretation) was that he was looking to the future more than any of the other Jedi, including Yoda. He was chasing a prophesy and, in doing so, ignored aspects of Anakin that the 'living Force' may have pointed him to. If anything, he was blinded to the here and now by this prophesy. He did not practise what he preached.

And, similarly, Yoda spotted things in the present about Anakin without letting his hopes for the future get in the way. And, yet, had Yoda and the Jedi been more 'mindful of the future' they may well have avoided the tragedy that occured.

I suppose my issue is that, while Yoda may teach to 'be mindful of the future' and Qui-Gon may say 'but not at the expense of the living Force', neither seemed to act on their own advice.

Maybe that was the tragic flaw of all Jedi, Yoda and Qui-Gon included - they saw themselves as teachers and yet did not learn the lessons they themselves were teaching.
