Is the Tantive IV a real set? yes.
Are those actually the C-3PO costume and the R2 prop? yes.
Note how good or 'real' that looks.

Are Chewie and Tarfull men in suits? Yes.
Are the Trees behind Chewie and Tarful a real set? No, its a still photograph.
Note how you can tell the difference.

If I´m not mistaking, that is a cliff with trees along the side. Doesn´t look fake to me.

Is ANYTHING in the shot of R2 with the comlink real? No.
Note how you can tell from the lighting of the scene and the way the whole image looks FLAT. Just as the trees behind the wookies look flat.

Wow, you´re right! I only had to stare intently for an extended period of time plus switch back and forth, to make out the difference between the squeaky clean, white corridor, and the squeaky clean, cream-colored cans or boxes or whatever to tell the difference!!! You know, JUST LIKE NORMAL VIEWERS! :whateva:

That was my point at the end of that long post I wrote.

If RotS is as great as it can be, if we're engrossed and emotionally involved in the movie, no one will care if some effects are obvious.

I only brought it up because many people on this thread, at the TF.n, and other places were mentioning the effects in the teaser stood out to them. In my opinion, if you can do things practical (ie. on the set) it tends to look better.

Hell for me NONE of that stuff looked fake. It all looked like it was shot on location, ok except perhaps the shot of Obi and Anakin swinging against the lava. But that's only because it's been engrained into my head from watching all the blue screen footage of them fighting that they weren't actually fighting in a volcanic environment.

But the wookie stuff, especially with the shot of the one wookie and Chewie looking up- that shit was dope.

Looking for Real Vs Fake in a Star Wars movie is pretty beside the point, isn't it?

Sometimes, but not always. Maybe real vs. fake is not an issue but real, then fake, then back to real again is and issue as the switches take you (well, me) out of the movies. Consistency is a huge issue too. Would I have noticed the R2 scene in the context of the movie? Possibly not.

Did I notice 3PO switch to CG in AotC? Yes. Instantly. And suddenly I'm not in the movie. I'm thinking 'oh, they made 3PO in CG'. Did I mind that the Clonetroopers were CG? Not at all. Mostly, they looked excellent. Did I mind that they were CG when they were marching into the ship in their thousands? Yep, because it looked more CG than any shot around it and instantly took me out. Did I notice the CG Anakin when he was riding the beastie? Yeah, too CG.

The switching is fine as long as it is good enough not to jar. That's just my opinion on the matter. But as to why they'd do that R2 shot in CG, I have no idea. Making something in CG because it can't be represented well enough physically is fair enough but doing it because you just don't want to shoot it or build a set is entirely different. Then you're just making cartoons. I know, because that's what I do for a living and it's nice not to have to build one set.

And lastly, on the real vs. fake, I would say that 'real' in the context of a created movie world is very, very important. That is why the whole 'used universe' idea worked so well - it was complete fantasy but, in the context of the movie world, everything was very real, very tangible, very believable. That is important.

Just my opinion, of course.
Dogg.

I can't speak for others, but I think its true. Return of the King had some very 'iffy' FX, but unless I'm mistaken, you didn't hear anyone complain about them. I believe that was because people were 'caught up' in the movie.

I am someone who notices stuff, but in AotC when CG Yoda started fighting Dooku, you better believe I wasn't noticing effects, I was caught up in the moment.

But in other parts of AotC, when I wasn't as "invested", a poor FX shot would pull me out. And I'll admit, I do get frustrated when that happens.

I didn't bring up the FX shots, but they are mentioned on almost every board. I think people mentioned them because they were being pulled out of the experience. Just as I think some people are mentioning the music cues because they 'pull them out of the experience.'

I didn't bring it up, because I think the teaser rocks, and I looked past the stuff. But in responding to someone who said the "Chewie" looked "fake", I went into my pratical vs. digital rant. Sorry to bring it up.

The Republic logo (on the republic craft) and the Separatist logo (on the Separatist craft) are combined to form the Imperial logo. Get it? The remains of the Republic + the remains of the Separatists = The Empire

It´s not common knowledge, just a fun bit of trivia.

Don´t believe the symbol is visible in AOTC, I think it only started to appear in the CW videogame and the Holonet news broadcast (which gives clues to things in the film).

sucks for all the people who PAID to see it, buts thats where i and BitTorrent came in.

ENOUGH YOU PIGFUCKERS WITH THE I SEE THINGS IN THE LAVA CRAP. Seriously acknowledge the fact that you are on acid and no one cares. Some Twat over at TFN posted a lava pic with JarJar's outline photoshop'd on, i wish death upon the UBER dork who thought this would have any comedic value.

and i think the Wookies look too much like giant Ewoks, i know that Endor was to originally be a Wookie planet...but i think dressing wookies like cute lil ewoks suppresses their arm ripping attributes.

Those avatars are smokin'! :weed:

I can't believe that noone has made a gif of Vader riiiiiiising.

Speaking of the rise scene I can't fucking wait to see Vader take the room apart piece by piece with Force after hearing of Padme's untimely demise.

I saw the teaser trailer and I love it. :heavymetal: But I would rather have had more Revenge Of The Sith footage than the OT footage and the Attack Of The Clones and The Phantom Menace footage. But I still loooooove the teaser trailer. :heavymetal2:

I've just returned from The Incredibles and noticed a couple of things about the ROTS trailer:

1. The colors and depth are so much better looking on the silver screen. It's night and day. Anyone that has any complaints about CG or depth of field when talking about the cinema version is flat out fooling themselves.

2. The audio track is different. In the cinema you can clearly hear ObiWan grunting under the pressure of Anakin's attack as well as Sideous cackling as he whips his saber out. I haven't heard either of those in the online version.

EDIT: I'm wrong on point two, but it was much more evident in the theater.

These avatars are awesome. I was called Obi-Wan on these forums but for some reason it wont let me re-log in under that name so now I'm Michael Myers *shrug*

Is there anyone out there who can make me an avatar of Obi-Wan changing image from Episode I thru II thru III thru IV and then finally as the spirit version?

If so please put it on these forums where I can link to it or maybe email me a link to it at uk_obi_wan_kenobi@hotmail.com

Obi

(Oh yeah and if admin are reading why can't I access my Obi name?)

While I loved the trailers, it did have LESS THAN A MINUTE of RotS footage.

Were the AotC teasers that short?

Not enough.

You might want to try the 2 disc version of the TPM soundtrack. Has tons of music not on the 1 disc original release.

If that was JEJ in the trailer, and we have no reason to think it wasn't, It seems he was trying to match Hayden's voice and accent...

... Vader picks up his British accent over the next twenty years, I suppose.

Yoda will fight Sidious.

Mace will fight Anakin/Sidious and have his black ass handed back to him.

Chuck Norris will not be in EPIII.

I'd hardly call David Prowse's blind stumbling in ANH samuai like moves.

With that said, it's been speculated Sidious may throw his saber.

I've always assumed Sidious wouldn't be particularly agile, but you know, I would've said the same thing for Yoda until AOTC.

That was the first thing I thought when I watched that bit of the trailer, that Sidious was winding up to throw his lightsabre like Vader in RotJ. Though I'm not sure what that'd accomplish in the confines of his office. Otherwise he's looking like he's just going apeshit and swinging like a loon.

its free, its 640x272 and it runs at 24.94 frames per second!
