It has come to my attention today that a certain moderator at the Official Star Wars site is deliberately targeting the following websites looking for anything that bears a Hyperspace logo.

The following sites being targeted are:

EasyJournal Personal Blogs
LiveJournal Personal Blogs
JackPearce.Info
PopcornBuzz.Com
Darth-Sonic.Com
TheForce.Net
TheNextAmidala.Com
MillenniumFalcon.Com

Anyone found posting links or photos of the trailer displaying the HS logo are being PERMBANNED from the Official Site boards by Bonniegirl.

Furthermore, their Hyperspace accounts are being revoked. That is, their account is cancelled with no refund!!!

Please be warned. I have been told that over a dozen people have already had their accounts terminated in the last 8hrs.

Proceed with caution...

Have you got a copy of the letter we could have? :)

HUGE bummer. I don't know how they are going to be able to uphold Non-HS trailers....

hahaha! I got the same email a few weeks ago. I also got a prompt call about it from my host telling me to take my Insider pics down within the next hour or they were going to do it for me.

It is a shame that such pressure is put on this stuff.. If they don't want it all over the internet, they shouldn't put it up. Has a password ever stopped people from getting free porn? I had my account revoked.. I feel the pain. I think that they shouldn't charge for special access to a website.. I can see the tangable stuff like the instider mag and special offers and bantha tracks.. But access to a "special" part of the site that has pictures is silly, and with file sharing so popular now how can they ever expect to really police the videos? Any way I feel like it is a moot point to charge.. I am rambleing now..lol

yes, I believe that the OS and especially this Bonnie creature are just out to their same old shenanigans again, picking ppl off to make money. it is a real shame, but, in the end, we'll all be happy on 5-19...

So if you don't want people to steal from you you shouldn't buy stuff that you want.

I'm not an ardent supporter of pirating, but why would they come down hard on people for spreading this around? It's publicity for crissakes, the more hype & the more people who see it, the better! Not to mention taking a major bandwidth load off their servers (which I'm sure could save them a premium). I can understand them coming down on other Hyperspace material like pics or set diaries, but not this. If they want to argue that it's a tool to get people to join hyperspace I'd have to call BS - why would they make it available on AOL or the various TV shows?

Come on LFL, share the love. :heavymetal:

I'm kind of surprised that there hasn't been greater hysteria over the fact that, once again, a Hyperspace "exclusive" is nothing of the kind. AOL even gets the supersized trailer.

Did those DVD rips a while back have the Hyper$pace logo?

Since "they" are watching... perhaps they'd like to answer the following?

1) When is the Xtra Large trailer going to be available?
2) Is this the only trailer for III until March/April?
3) Is there a Santa Claus?

If they want to go after Insider pictures, let them. Fine. But going after promotional material is stupid. The trailer isn't bad. The more people that see it, the more interest is will create. They are some real silly fucks over there. The moderators for the Official site went over to CHUD, found someone who was posting HS stuff and banned me. Lot of sense that made. I didn't let them get away with it though. I think HS is a good service all in all, but they need to do something about the Nazi moderator mentality. Getting my account back after their mistake was one of the hardest, most irritating experiences I have had with a company.

If you have a HS account and you value it, be careful.

The point of the trailer afterall is to PUBLICISE THE FILM.

Well, in all fairness, it will be freely available to the public on Monday; over six months in advance of the film's release, I don't think restricting the downloading audience for 3 days is going to make much difference in promotional terms. But the whole push to get people to subscribe to HS and "avoid the rush" for the sake of getting the trailer early was pretty much made irrelevant by posting it on AOL at exactly the same time. I mean, everyone knows someone who's a member of AOL -- I can't see too many people joining HS just for this.

I wouldn't bother with the TV rips. I saw the Access Hollywood version on Suprnova. It was around 60MB, had all that crap floating across the bottom of the screen and wasn't widescreen.

I don't know if it's LFL or just one mod taking it upon herself to be the Empire but seriously - if Suprnova and Lokitorrents have it up then whats the point in coming down on SW nerd sites? Just the thought of the Suprnova admins getting a C&D letter from LFL makes me chuckle.

AntiPiracy@LucasFilm.com took my domain darthpsychotic.com away from me back in early 2002 (Register.com just renewed dp.com for themselves till January 2006  ), for having one too many promotional art and movie stills on the site.

It's times like this I want to smash an airplane into their servers.

This is semi-on-topic, I guess. Certain posts in the thread have swayed this way a bit.

My best friend subscribes to HS. I do not. I got the trailer from another board mere minutes after it went up on SW.com, and before he even got online that day. I called him & told him it was up & to go check it out. He went to SW.com and totally couldn't even get to the front page to access the trailer. So, who ended up sending him the file? Me, of course. Alot of good his HS subscription did him on the most important day since he joined last year.

I get all the BTH pics, all the KV's, and all the webdocs without paying a dime. I think I can do without set diaries and the Insider mags.

How much of a pervert do you have to be to lose your porn account? (Oh, I'm sorry for your hand's loss. :heavymetal: )

"You know back in 1998 my site, then AmericasQueen.com (Portman site) was the FIRST to post a image of the TPM trailer, a bootleg one, we got a bitching email from Lucasfilms."

What did it say?

Please be aware the following is not from the heart, I think LFL are going about it with too rough a grip... it's just something that I can't shake at the back of my mind...

[devil's advocate]

I do sometimes wonder what exactly you want LFL to do? Should they just let material that is supposed to be PPV only (whether you agree with HS or not) be seen by loads of people who haven't paid? Should they not try and clamp down on those who distribute the material that others have paid for... for free? I think if you were in charge of an online PPV service, you would do as LFL are doing... wouldn't you?

Now don't shoot me down and tell me I'm a fucking LFL tool, I was just thinking. Aside from scrapping Hyperspace, what exactly are LFL supposed to do? Just because the net is filled with 'pirates and ninjas', does that make LFL wrong to go after them?

[/devil's advocate]

Only because TFn is a blatant recruitment drive for H$.
That and the mods over there have to give up their RL names and addresses to the owners in case LFL ever come knocking.

Another reason why it's your duty as an SW fan and internet user to take as much content from H$ and provide it to other people free of charge. Whether that means you use a shared account or redistribute stuff you've seen in the public domain with mirrors or simple mailing lists, H$ can get fucked!

I subscribe to Hyperspace. It's a special service for the fans. What kills me is people steal shit then cry about it when they get caught.

Cough up the 40 bucks like everyone else has to including me and stop stealing shit, otherwise if you get busted, stop yer fucking crying about it.
Lucas is a business man of course he doesnt want people stealing his shit, would you??? If you invested hard earned money in it? FUCK no you wouldnt!

So as a paying member of Hyperspace content who enjoys what it offers, stop being a tight penny pinching ass and cough your 40 bucks up or wait until May. Toolage.

The problem here is that THERE WAS NO FUCKING WARNING from StarWars.com.

Hyperspace members who reposted the trailer are being PERMABANNED with their $40 a year HYPER$PACE accounts REMOVED - according to those who had their paid accounts revoked.

Furthermore, apparently any and all reposting of AOL and TV video and screencaptures is prohibited as well. Yet you can download the fucking trailer from Real.com and Microsoft.com for free. (FYI I'm watching the Episode III trailer on my RealPlayer Gold I downloaded for free from suprnova.org. Apparently RealPlayer is streaming a version from the Associated Press)

If you don't like the Official Site bashing then you are more than welcome to :gb2tbone: 's and talk about old TheForce.net DarthFriday pictures + spoilers and obsess over how Josh Griffen is getting press and attention and how you are not.

I presume they had a TOS and/or contract that one had to read and click "I agree" to.

I can't help it that H$ users "agreed" to these contractual terms when they got their accounts. Oh, and as for comparing this to domestic abuse...

Can't. I don't have an H$ acount. I would never pay for that crap. Too bad that your notion of me or my intentions ignores reality, not to mention missing the actual issue altogether.

But hey, you've got more reason to be upset than I do - I didn't lose 40 bucks in all this. ;)

On a slightly serious note that is related to the issue at hand, but does anyone know of someone getting the aforementioned treatment for hosting a copy of the trailer ripped off one of the many times it's been show on TV screens around the world?

Just to clear my name, it's not the OS mods that are purposely seeking out Hyperspace material and narcing on people. It's the subscribers. They get pissed off (and in my opinion, rightfully so) that something they dropped 40 bucks on is being offered for free by someone. We get multiple threads a day with links to illegally hosted Hyperspace material in Forum Feedback, and the admins see it and deal with it. I don't blame the admins, either. It's just their job. People payed for it and they should be the only ones to see it. Until tomorrow anyway.

Having said all that, I too agree that it's a stupid idea to charge people for your own marketing. Or, maybe it's not so stupid if people are willing to pay it. Heh. :p

This guy obviously is new cuz if he wasn't he would know DP isn't stupid enough to pay into the SW.com marketing $maker.

Maybe he is relating it to installing a program TOS. A "Oh if I don't hit agree I can't use the program" type mentality. I think it is stupid to pay for a spoiler or trailer.

I do agree that if SW fans are narcing out other SW fans.., that is pretty pathetic! :whatevaho:

DP needs to find out who they are and tell everyone to ban their IP's. :heavymetal: That is fucked up!

Newsgroups are a better source and they can't be stopped by LFL. *shhh*

Not to derail.. Vanda did you post on FARK?

In my opinion, no one should have their account taken away from them. The trailer was made public by LFL - therefore any exclusivity it had as HS was dissolved as soon as it hit the air waves.
