Yeah the Mumakils and Legolas doing a snowboarding trick off of one in ROTK looked totally like straight out of a fucking PS1 video game as did the Orc Legions in the seige of Gondor and the final stand at the Black Gate of Mordor.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought it was pretty obvious that JEJ is trying to match Hayden's tone and inflection...

...assuming those lines (Sidious's and Vader's) even make it into the movie anyway. We don't actually see anyone deliver them in the trailer.

Well, that's the thing. I mean, Jake didn't have an English accent in TPM, Hayden didn't have an English accent in AoTC, and he's probably not going to sport one in RotS. So what kind of ass would Lucas be if he had Vader suddenly put into The Suit and then start suddenly speaking with a foreign accent?

We can only guess that Vade's accent develops as he grows more comfortable with his role as a Imperial member and leader. Since everybody else in the Empire has one, it's all the poor guy can do to fit in.

Puh-leeease! There's a whole lot of fake looking sh*t in LOTR. From the battle of the Pellenor Fields, to the awful compositing of Merry and Pippin riding Treebeard, to the ents, to the ents attack on Isengard, etc.

How the hell do you expect them to recreate a lightsaber duel a lava planet?

As for the film, it's nowhere close to being completed. There is still 6 months of effects work. How about waiting til they're done.

Besides, I don't think people can tell the difference between CG, matte paintings, and real sets or miniatures, because I've heard so many people claim things in this trailer were CG when they weren't.
:heavymetal: :heavymetal:
- Many people claimed Chewy and Tarfful were CG. WRONG!
- Some said Vader and the table he was on were CG. WRONG!
- Others said a background was CG when it wasn't!

Some people just want to whine about CG, and can't even tell the damn difference. If you can't even tell the difference, I don't want to hear you whine about anything.

It's a long way (unfortunately) to the theatrical release, and any amount of tweaking can be done to anything from Vader's voice to CGI effects and so forth. So, I don't think we should hit this teaser too hard with nit-picks since there is a very real chance of several things in this teaser changing in the next six months before the theatrical release. Basically, I'm saying not to view everything in this trailer as deadset final, and be aware that alterations are a very real possiblitiy (and we know Lucas is all about making alterations to his movies).

Could Lucas alter Vader's baby hands please? Hayden is not nearly as big as Dave Prowse was. The Vader with hands shackled scene looks semi-rediculous with the wee folk hands that are attatched to Vader. I still can't believe that Lucas didn't go with Prowse for these scenes. Hayden has some mighty big shoes to fill.

Missed it on TRL, and almost cried when I saw it on Extra, but when I downloaded some bootleg, I almost shat myself. "Breathing" didn't do it for me, and when they released "Clone War" it was cool, but this teaser is very very good. You can instantly tell that the tone of this movie is going to be the exact opposite of the first two prequels, or even the rest of the saga.

Chewie looked awesome, I'm glad he's there.
Vader looked quite all right to me and made my stomach sink near my testicles.
Palpatine looked like a hardass
Anakin looked perfect, I'd like to see the effort Hayden put into Shattered Glass into this role.
As for Greivous, I'm glad he wasn't in there. He would have ruined it.

I'm sorry, but it's just a rush watching that trailer. It's almost as if we here are part of the production and are seeing these shots competed for the first time.

Yep. Definitely the weak link, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not totally up on spoilers, so maybe someone knows better than I do and can argue that Grievous serves a key purpose in this movie -- but he damn sure wasn't missed in the trailer, and I have a suspicion he's going to be nothing but an unnecessary distraction in the final film.

Please don't misunderstand me here.

I was in awe of this trailer for many reasons (a few that I listed above). I realize that nothing is perfect but I just thought that Lucas wanted to match the OT look more perfectly that's all. Nitpicking is inherent to any sheep that's been into these movies as long as me. Nothing against this trailer.

Darth Vader could walk around on mechanical spider legs in this one and I'd still be the first in line to see this movie.

BTW-- I absolutely loved the Wookie army shot!

Yeah, it's good they held back on Grievous - gives the next trailer something special to showcase. Though, excuse me for being uninformed, but who is the palefaced alien in the trailer with the vertical lines down his face? He appears to be confonting Obi-Wan here. I haven't been too involved in obtaining Ep3 news for some time, and so, this is a new one for me.

Just did a side-by-side comparisson. The Hyperspace version is much more colorful and a slight bit sharper than the AOL version. This is obviously due to the HS version having a higher bitrate (100.4Kbs vs. 81.3). Of course you would expect this, since the HS version has the damn logo on it. :whateva:

People write Chewbacca and Tarfull are CG because they were shot against a blue screen and composited into the plate photography.

While its getting better and better, it just CAN'T compare to the real sets, like C-3PO on in the white hallway. You can tell what's real and what isn't.

Actually, it looks as though both Hyperspace and AOL had the 100 verison until the DL server got bogged down, then both switched to the 81. You can download a copy without a logo from either source now.

I just like how bleak everything looks. As for CG, the only issue I had was with the jet of lave that rises up between Anakin and Obi-Wan during that brief shot of them dueling. Something about that spew of lava looked fake, especially in opposition to them. I'm sure they'll fix it, though. There are many differences in shots and audio from the trailers to the films for the last two.

Let's cast our minds back to the "breathing" trailer for AOTC. The clones marching up the Republic cruiser ramp is a similiar instance. That shot ended up being quite more detailed in the movie with a lot of background shots added in.

So for now I suggest we consider this teaser as a WIP. :heavymetal:

This is my first post here-and like many of you I watched the trailer on sw.com-so awesome! I can't wait to see this movie-I love them all but i think this could be even better than ESB-I don't think GL is letting everything out-I think there are going to be some big surprises in this movie-but my favorite part of the trailer was James Earl Jones' voice-it felt so good hearing it!

Heh, funny thing about Grievous´ absence from the trailer, I didn´t think about that at all! Looks like he will only be an icing on the cake.

And that first shot of the lava bursting out of the ground, was that really CGI? If so, WOW. Just. WOW.

im glad to hear the prospect of Grievous being marginalised as at this rate Star Wars was turning into James Bond with "this movies disposable bad guy is..."

I always wished we'd had more Darth Maul and Darth Tyrannus.

But all this excitement about the teaser trailer only proves my theory that if George had tied the prequels more into the original trilogy the fans would have enjoyed them more.

Hey how’s it going, yep my first post!

I thought the trailer was awesome, really cool. Things that stood out for me:

· The Fire Ship putting out the fire on the ship about to crash (onto coruscant??)
· The dead Red Guards behind Yoda (hope he has kicked them with force powers, but probably just the aftermath of the Mace party)
· And the Red Sabre that Mace is fighting against (the second Mace clip)

Don’t know why but the Fire Ship part really looked good to me.

A Krayt Dragon roar (more like a squeaky door/whistle sound) just as the "Episode III" Logo begins to materialize?

I really hope that the sound was changed in Ep. IV for a specific reason, as in there is a living Krayt Dragon in Ep. III ...maybe on Tattooine? Hmmm.

Good morning everyone, by the way. Great list! I too, am a lurker from about July on.

I have to add that though my adult self loves that the movie looks so dark, my inner 8-year-old hopes it really won't be quite as scary as this trailer looks. That new, lined-face guy looks REALLY creepy.

At the 54th second of the teaser, the shape of Darth Vader's mask can be seen in the lava.

Check this out:

There's even a guy on another forum who said that my pic was the proof that Vader's Mask was forged at Mount Doom.

Ok, I give up guys! I'm quite convinced that it is there! It is very hard to see. It reminds me that at the very end of What Lies Beneath there is the same type of effect, when Michelle Pfeiffer is walking from the cemetary, two dark patches in the snow become a face just before the end credits starts rolling.

Anyways, wait for an higher resolution video of the trailer and you will understand that I was right...

This is in response to Darth Vile. Darth Vile, it is YOU who doesn't know what you're talking about. Let's go slowly:

Is the Tantive IV a real set? yes.
Are those actually the C-3PO costume and the R2 prop? yes.
Note how good or 'real' that looks.

Are Chewie and Tarfull men in suits? Yes.
Are the Trees behind Chewie and Tarful a real set? No, its a still photograph.
Note how you can tell the difference.

Is ANYTHING in the shot of R2 with the comlink real? No.
Note how you can tell from the lighting of the scene and the way the whole image looks FLAT. Just as the trees behind the wookies look flat.

Now as I've always said, ILM does the best they possible can. Some things look absolutely perfect. But there is a true lack of consistency, just because NO MATTER HOW TALENTED ILM IS, somethings just can't be made to look real.

And I'm not talking about a creature like Watto that can't be made real. I'm talking about things like this shot of R2 with the comlink. You COULD build a set and place the R2 prop in there, and attach a comlink and move it through puppetry. Some people whine back "Why should Lucas spend $ and time to make something that would be on screen for 30 seconds when this looks just as good?" argument. Well, that is Lucas' decision, but I would argue that it does NOT look as good, it looks fake. And for the frist 3 movies, he DID build sets and such for little 30 scenes. You COULD get 50 extras and dress them in Clonetrooper outfits, hell he did in the OT. In the OT, he did BUILD A SWAMP for Dagobah. And he has occassionaly for the PT, he went to Tunisia, Italy, etc. Has anyone complained about that? Not that I know of.

But he does less and less each film. And that's why many people (NOT JUST ME) argue that the whole thing looks like a cartoon.

Finally, two points. As another smart person wrote, these shots will be tweaked up until the release and they'll look even better in May.

And as I've ALWAYS SAID, if the movie is engrossing, it won't matter if things look cartoony. Had TPM or AotC been better overall movies, many of the complaints about visuals, dialogue, wooden acting, etc would have been a lot less. Yes, the Lord of the Rings had some TERRIBLE looking effects, but because many people were engrossed in those movies more, you didn't hear the complaints. ANOTHER EXAMPLE: When people whine about the PT's corny dialogue, some shoot back "well, ANH had bad dialogue." While I suppose true, ANH was a film where you became emotionally invested in the story and characters, so you accepted any poor dialogue. For the PT, I believe people just aren't as engrossed or emotionally invested in the story/characters.

I dig the trailer quite a lot. I like how they're making sure that the average movie-goer gets the connection between Ep3 and Ep4, 5, 6.

I hope that they keep this up.

It isn't, however, a trailer for the sheep full of spoilage, which saddens me. :)

Just wanted to drop a line, saying that despite my continued annoyance at the 'cartoony' feel of the series...

I LOVE THE TEASER.

I think its well put together, and like many, it raised my interest in EpIII. Not that I wasn't going to see it, but I'm getting my hopes up again that it will be a good movie. Unlike the first two PT movies, which I think had great moments, but more mediocrity.

Saw the trailer with the Incredibles last night. The manager was kind enough to usher us into a digital screen just to show us the trailer twice in a row. Then we went back to the theater showing the Incredibles and saw the trailer again followed by another great Pixar movie.
