Grievous' Henchmen?

This is from the latest issue of Star Wars: Republic, during this scene

Assaj Ventress is instructing these droids to surround her and attack her

as if they were Jedi, and that weapon they're using looks a bit interesting,

could this be the new Seperatist weapon we've heard about (and seen)

that Grievous' henchmen use? Are those Grievous' henchmen? I do recall

a report that they would be wearing cloaks...

I can check with Pudu and/or JR, though I'm inclinded to think they are either predecessors to or are Grievous's henchmen.

The weapons those droids wield are similiar to what Pudu has described and perhaps what one particular photoreceptor looks like when "lighted up".

Also Pabawan has said something along the lines of the Expanded Universe Clone Wars setting up what transpires in Episode III in one of his recent chats.

Thanks for the link!

edit: I guess your article summed up what I said better than I did. I should read before posting :meatwad:

Yeah let me just add this for you EU skeptics: several official sources, including Pablo Higaldo and Darkhorse's Randy Stradley have confirmed that we will be seeing elements from Episode 3 in upcoming Clone Wars products, including season 2 of Clone Wars, and in the Republic comic series.

If these aren't Grievous henchmen, they sure are damn close to everything I've heard about them, the cloak, the weapon...it's a real subtle thing in the book, most people probably wouldn't think much about it.

I suspect if the EU powers that be have been hinting that various episode 3 images and characters will be making it into clone wars EU sources, that when they do appear they will make a big deal about it.

I'm not saying this couldn't be the henchmen, but I think there'd be a little more fanfare from official sources.

Nothing has been confirmed that the guy's fighting Obi-Wan in the Marketing Footage are Grevious' henchmen. I think that sequence of footage comes from the same day that the set report mentioned the combatants being taller and thinner than humans and wearing cloaks that covered them from shoulder to floor. The only real correlation is that they have weapons that work against lightsabers...and it's far too early to tell if the warriors in the Marketing Footage were holding their own using their staves or not.

Yeah who hasn't seen that?

The image is so tiny and bright, you can't see exactly what they're holding (or exactly how they're holding it), and of course those guys along with theirs weapons will be replaced with CGI.

Oh something I left out before...

By the end of the scene Assaj Ventress has destroyed all of the droids and she says:

"Hmm, still moving too slowly, Count Dooku's Engineers will need to update their programming."

Oh also, if you got Hyperspace, check out the Set Diary "It's all digital magic".

Those droids in Rep #60 match
the description of those baddies given in that Set Diary 100%.

Also Randy Stradley says he thinks the official name is "bugbots".

Does she say their or its?

I'm suddenly wondering if this is an early Grievous prototype?

Okay.

Personally, I'm not thinking about the way in which they are using the staffs. Maybe it was left to artist interpretation or maybe this is how they will use them.

Maybe they break in half at the centre, similar to the way Obi-Wan sliced Maul's double-saber in half during the pit-side fight in TPM? :?

Possible.

One of the problems is the Behind The Helmet picture.

It just doesn't show enough of it.

i figure it's a little longer than one lit saber but less than two lit sabers. In other words, less length than Maul's double when it's lit.

You're thinking Bruce Spence's people on Utapau.

I don't know.

Since Bruce Spence is in makeup, why would the others need to CG?

I'd say they are the Grievous henchmen in the marketing video.

You're overthinking it, T.

I don't get this whole Utapau thing. Obi-Wan was just visiting there on his way to another planet. The landing platform he was on was filled with Utapauians. Then you have Commander Cody and Obi-Wan on the Utapau planet on the back of the lizard. Something is not right...

I did a listing on the set diaries. Utapau should equal PLANET A and the place where Obi is attacked is PLANET B. It's not the same planet as PLANET A. There is a PLANET C as well, but that has to do with KI-ADI-MUNDI.

Quote:
INT. WALKWAY - PLANET B

OBI-WAN walks along a walkway of otherworldly architecture and topography planet.

He fights thin, armed opponents wearing cloaks, against panoramic views.

SW films typically have 3 different environments, 1 for each act of the film (as we all know).
We know the first act takes place aboard the Seperatist Cruiser and the space around it, while the third act is obviously the climax on the lava planet Mustafar. Along the way we're expecting Anakin and Obi-Wan to split and we follow their divergent adventures (with points of information intertwined) until they converge at the conscusion again.

Obi-Wan is on Utapau with Clonetroopers after the leader of the Seperatist movement has been killed (although the other members are still alive). We know this.

I'd suggest that Obi-Wan is dispatched to Utapau with Clonetroopers by Palpatine to end the war by decively (sp?) defeating a large Seperatist army. The Utapauians are probably Seperatists but provide shelter to Obi-Wan after he's effectively defeated them and after the Clones have turned on him....maybe to show that everything is not what it seems, that the people who were trusted were actually deceptive while "the enemy" were correct all along and are now his only allies in a hostile environment.

I'd be expecting the Clones to turn across the Galaxy around the same time Mace is killed on Coruscant and Anakin attacks the Jedi Temple.

I recently remembered what these things in the comic book remind me of. If anyone remembers the old 1977 movie Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger there were 3 demons that the evil chick summoned from the fire to fight Sinbad. They had big red eyes and those 2 antenna things that came from the tops of their heads. Basically they looked like muscular bugs. I was only able to find 1 pic on the net to compare.

Image

Keep in mind that as seen in the back in black video there are 3 henchmen and in the Sinbad movie there were 3 demons. I think it could be Lucas' homage to Ray Harryhausen.

IU, I think your outline is a little wrong...

I think Obi-Wan will be sent to planet ZOG. The Clones turn while he is here and he manages to escape but his ship is damaged OR he needs to know something. That is when he arrives on UTAPAU. He learns whatever and Bruce sends him on his way with a borrowed craft. Obi returns to Coruscant.

There is a missing planet in the plot. ;)

What happened to I Shot JR?

We're all in need of some "spoiler fixins." :weed:

I dunno Tern, it makes sense for Obi-Wan to suffer a defeat and a resurrection at the same place, namely Utapau. The pride of his success with the Clones is swiftly laid low when they turn on him and his enemy offers him shelter. He loses his ship and has to subject himself one from his mysterious native benefactors. That makes perfect thematic sense to me, that any arrogance or pride or conceit is absolved by a shocking defeat and a realignment with the living Force (and maybe Qui-Gon?) by a native species before his final climactic battle with evil.

That kinda thing stinks of GL, see RotJ and the Ewok village for precedent ;)

Wow, dude that's a really good point. Hey would you mind if I add this to the report on my website? I'll give you credit, post something like "This was brought to my attention by someone who goes by the name of Benovite".

I dunno just an idea. I think you could be on to something here. :)

Word, I still gotta pick up the DVD. I saw it at the theater when it first came out.

Little known fact: Peter Mayhew played the gold minotaur. The same year Star Wars came out he was also in Sinbad.

I love the way the internet works. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't I come up with the connection between Sinbad's demons and the alleged Grevious henchmen and I only get credit for providing the fucking pic?

Story at T's clone wars site

It was brought to my attention by my friend Phil Tinajero that the droids pictured above in Republic #60 resemble the ghouls from Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. I know Mr. Lucas is a fan of Ray Harryhausen, so is this an homage to him? Check out the pics below and note the similarities to the droids in Republic #60, the big eyes, the horns on top of the head, the triangular mouth, the thin body, and the four fingered hands. I don't think it's just a coincidence. It's interesting to say the least. Thanks also to Benovite for providing the first image.

:jeddite: wack

This almost make a muthafucka keep his observations and insights to himself, regardless if they're correct or not.
