This was inspired by the fact that many people's least favourite trilogy moments come from RotJ. So here's the game - Star Wars and ESB are big hits. You have to come up with the third movie. Just a quick outline on what happens. Here are some guidelines -

1 - Only what appeared at the release of ESB has happened. So, try not to cherry pick from the RotJ that we are all familiar with - it was never made. This also means that it must fit in with ANH and ESB but not with anything since, such as the SEs and prequels and EU. Importantly, this means Jabba has never been seen - you can do what you want with him.

2 - It is the final film. The story must end in this film.

3 - Try to keep it short.

I'll be very interested to hear what people can come up with and how different they would be from what we actually got.

Dogg.

Luke rescues Han from Carbonite minus Salacious Crumb and Boba Fett's death. Boba Fett follows Luke to Dagobah I guess. Luke lands and finds some hot blonde bombshell training with Yoda who turns out to be his sister. Yoda dies while completing Luke and his sisters training. Stormtroopers surround them on Dagobah and take them to Coruscant or something. The Emperor scenes are mostly the same except in an underground hellish place and possibly including Luke's new sister.

Oh, and Han and Leia hijack a moon and crash it into Coruscant

Same movie, except I'd replace the Ewoks with Wookies, and Boba Fett's death would be much cooler and he would battle Luke much longer.

Yeah I like that Boba Fett idea. Certainly better than him just being belched up liked he was in the old comic, if I remember correctly.

I've actually no idea what I'd do myself, just thought the question might tease out some interesting suggestions. I do like the idea of going back to Hoth for a fairly large scale assault and, whatever about crashing a moon on Coruscant, something that dealt a larger blow to the Empire than just the death of the Emperor himself would seem to be a good idea.

Im with TheBrian. Give Boba Fett a major stand off with Luke on Jabba's sail barge (a la Jango v Obi Wan) and replace the Ewoks with Wookie slaves. Would have been a lot more emotive (not to mention more realistic) than the cuddly bears. Plus it would have been nice to have added some depth to Chewbaccas chr.

Yeah, most SW vehicles have a BIT better scaling. The thing should be like 18" high!

Man, I'd love to own all this great stuff. Especially the Imperial Shuttle!

You cannot change history. Lucas just told Jedi the way it really happened.

Hmmm, witnesses have been sketchy about a few details such as the description of the Sarlaac and just what songs were performed in Jabba's Palace. Enough to get the case against Luke for assisting the murder of the Emperor dropped. Especially seeing as the description of the perpetrator has been debated very recently.

Anyway, given the freedom to change history (and taking into account that only Ep4 and 5 exists as part of the question), I quite possibly would have imagined the whole Jabba thing very differently. Han would already be out of the carbonite and scheduled for execution very shortly - as a very public example to those who do business whith Jabba. I think Jabba would have been more obviously a gangster, maybe even human, and certainly would not have had so many people or muppets around him (which would seem to leave him very open to attack). He would have been more of a Godfather type figure.

I think Luke would have actually been with Yoda at the start of the film, simply because that was always the reason I thought he didn't go with Lando and Chewie when I was a kid. So Leia, the droids would join Lando and Chewie at the start mid-rescue. Everything would go horribly wrong and Luke would sense this while training. This time, however, he would not leave like he did in ESB. He made his commitment to Yoda.

As a result, Han dies, after a particularly soppy girly scene with Leia where they say their goodbyes. Luke goes a little off the rails, blaming himself, made all the worse by Leia blaming him too. Chewie almost kills Lando for getting Han into that mess in the first place and the whole group is broken up. The idea here is to tempt Luke to the dark side. He has no sense of being part of a group any more. He is alone when he eventually confronts the Emperor.

So, anyway, to cut a long story short Leia, Chewie (who sort of becomes Leia's bodyguard) and the droids join the Rebellion to mount an offensive of Coruscant (there is no Death Star 2). Luke turns himself in to Vader, who brings him to the Emperor. The battle looks like it is about to be lost and there is no hope, when Lando turns up with troops to mirror Han's action at the end of Ep4. They gave up on him but he did not give up on them. They destroy the Emperor's Palace just as Luke faces off against the Emperor and Vader deep below ground under Corsucant. Luke looks like he will turn to the Dark Side and join the Emperor, has a last minute change of heart, Vader kills Emperor and dies. Everyone else lives happily ever after. The end.

There ya go. Not any better than the real thing of course but I was just having fun with it.

Dogg.

Here's some stuff I puked up last night...

As we pan down from the stars, we see the Excecutor rumble over head in a shot much like Episodes IV and V. The huge ship nears the planet Corascant. An Imperial Shuttle exits the docking bay and flies towards the planet. It docks at a one of the biggest buildings on the planet. Vader walks down the ramp and down a huge corridor, eventually getting to Emperor Palpintine's Thrown Room. They talk of Skywalker, the Rebellion and a Secret Weapon that will finally bring the insurrection to a crushing end.

On Tattoine, the Millenium Falcon lands near Jabba's Palace. Luke Skywalkerm, dressed in BROWN Jedi Robes walks down the ramp and confronts gaurds, getting into the Palace using his Jedi Mind Trick. Jabba's palace is differant here. Its more roomy, a multi-level place filled to the brim with guards.

While trying to get Han back, Luke, Leia, Chewwie and Lando fall into am Imperial Trap. Turns out Vader has anticipated their plans. The Rebels thaw out Han and fight their way out of the Palace, and Luke attempts to lure the Imperials away from the Falcon in his X-Wing. While the Falcon fights it's way past TIEs and Star Destroyers in orbit, Luke leads a fleet of TIEs (including Darth Vader) into the canyons of Tattoine, in a stunning race/dogfight sequence. The fight eventually goes to the sky, and Luke makes it out alive. Meanwhile, the Falcon gets in a asteroid dogfight with Slave I. The Slave I is destroyed, but Fett is not dead for sure...

Our heroes rendevous at the Rebel Fleet. Luke visits Han and the others on the Medical Frigate and leaves to Dagobah to continue his training.

Dagobah scene is pretty much the same, but a bit shorter and more concise.

The latter half of the movie includes a primitive society besting the Empire (only not as cute as Ewoks) and a Rebel Invasion of Corascant. Luke confronts Palpy and Vader in Palpy's huge Imperial Palace/Throne Room those scenes are pretty much the same as the stuff on the Death Star II, only more sabre fighting.

The movie ends with Han and Leia getting married on Coruscant as our heroes look on all smiley.

Dogg has some good ideas, there though. Like Han being already unfrozen and Jabba being more of a ganster and less of a one-dimensional puppet.

I would make the same movie, except that I would leave out the bogus death of Boba Fett.

He would either die in some glorious battle with Han Solo/Luke or something, or he escapes to fight again another day.

I wouldn't either. The Emperor building a second Death Star after the first was destroyed always seemed to me to confirm just how high an ego the Emperor has.

Yep, I agree about the Death Star. Also it made a perfect trap as the Emperor intended. Because they had destroyed the first one with relative ease, luring them into the second Death Star with the false info that it was not yet operational was a very smart plan indeed.

But, hey, as they used to say on the Big Breakfast, this game is just for fun.

The only two things that I would change is Luke killing Boba Fett in the Barge battle and MAYBE use Kashyyyk insead of Endor (wookies instead of Ewoks).

Exactly the same, except Luke joins the Emperor after disposing Vader. He becomes his apprentice and the Imperials wipe out the Rebels on Endor and in the space battle.
