Watching A New Hope, I noticed a very odd looking thing...Look at the door of the escape pod in the background...

Image

Find it at about 8:50...

Unfinished Effect? Or is the door meant to look like a blue-screen screwup...

It is so obvious that I'm starting to think it was meant to be there.

I noticed it was there in the scene with the stormtroopes and dewbacks as well. So was it always there, or was one scene adjusted to match the other?

Noticed it too, and it's also in the Dewback scene. Very peculiar.

I noticed this too . . . reviewing the VHS copies, it's blue, but not as noticable. The cleanup restoration must have really made the blue pop.

But why would it be blue? did they use this prop (the one buried in the sand) for the scene where R2 and 3PO escape the Tantive IV? That seems odd.

My guess as to why the blue got picked up so strongly is that if you compare the blue on R2-D2 to the older versions, he has been digitally enhanced quite a bit, his blue dome is really sharp and shiny now, where it wasnt before. I guess the process that picked up the blue of his dome did the same to the door....

But the question still remains, why was the door blue in the first place???

Here is a screen grab from Empire of Dreams that shows the on-set location, just thought I'd post this to show that the door was blue:

It's definitely blue. I compared the new DVDs to my boots of the original and SE releases. People are correct when they say it's just been made more apparent by the restoration.

To the guy who says the door is not blue on his release, you do realise that DVD is a digital medium? Why would your copy be any different to the millions of other units out there? Perhaps you just missed it...

Just wanted to show that there's another scene with the blue door. I'm sure the DVD version looks better, but I don't have it.
