AP: After "Episode III" will you ever revisit "Star Wars"?


Lucas: Ultimately, I'm going to probably move it into television and let other people take it. I'm sort of preserving the feature film part for what has happened and never go there again, but I can go off into various offshoots and things. You know, I've got offshoot novels, I've got offshoot comics.



So it's very easy to say, "Well, OK, that's that genre, and I'll find a really talented person to take it and create it." Just like the comic books and the novels are somebody else's way of doing it. I don't mind that. Some of it might turn out to be pretty good. If I get the right people involved, it could be interesting.

a TV series? they're his movies he should be able to do what he likes with them.

Lucas' comments that he felt bad for people who fell in love with half finished films does not detract from the fact that I love these films. I'm happy for and myself that he released the SE films 'the way he wanted.'

As for the TV series? I'm sure I will watch them. Hell, they might even be good!

As long as this proposed TV series is nowhere near the timeline of the movies, I'll welcome it.

Jeez, seems pretty obvious. The gap between ROTS and ANH is the longest such period of unexplored time in the whole series, and happens to feature the series' most popular character at the peak of his power.

And even besides Boba Fett, Vader's active then too.

I think that will be true for much of the viewing audience. If a TV series dabbles too closely with canon SW, it may be rejected by the enthusiast community. If the series was set say...1000 years prior to ANH, then that would give writers the freedom to create a fresh story, yet leave GL's work alone.

I'd be happy to see the war that started the Republic appear on TV - as long as it is good.

ILm already got their foot in the TV door it was just that no one could afford to use them! they did the star trek next generation fx(not sure if they id the other ones? im not a trekkie!) and they did the young indys some amazing FX on them most of it is so good its not noticeable!

i hope they do use this as a spring board/test but not tlike how they used the SE's as a test! i.e. can we get things to look good close up? as seen in the CU ronto and the CUs during "jedi rocks" and the blending of footage from jedi to empire! shame on them for that!

the day will come when everything is done by ILM (or ex employees ) i used to work at a place where most of the technology in use was thanks to ILM's genius!

then again they have been known to fuck up from time to time!

although i cant wait for this series opfully its something better than just an anthology type thing following characters in masks that people dont give a shit about i.e. cantina tales the tv show type thing! they could do it as luke telling stories to his grandkids like some of the young indys were done

yeah it should be a 9pm show, not a chance in hell though! "24" gets away with a helluva lot for a US tv show if it was along the level of "24" i would be a v.happy man! "the saber didnt make a clean cut, im gonna need a hacksaw"

The goal for ILM would be to get computer generated images cheap enough for TV, but at the same time good enough to compete with movies.

I wish they'd split their shows..cartoons for kids and a more violent darker drama for adults....

I have a bad feeling the Star Wars TV Series will be something like Clone Wars, or worse: Ewoks/Droids. I really hope they either do live action or CG, and make it family-freindly like SW, but not FOR the kids. Maintain the complexity and action level of the films, but in another kind of media.

I like the idea of pre-prequels. The formation of the Republic, the Jedi's beginings. Sio Bibble says "There hasn't been a full-scale war since the formation of the Rebublic" so that seems like a cool story to tell IMO. Start the series before the war, about 1/2 into the first season war starts, and ther series ends shortly after the war ends.

if the rumoured different director approach does go through i hope they do it like a different scenario each episode i.e. totally different not even the same characters etc. though i hope that format does not happen!
plus the big thin for me is that it needs to be shot in 2:35:1! a 1:78:1 star wars would not be the same!

Sounds like it will be live action. *phew* Those Clone Wars cartoons were cheesy.

Over at IESB.com Kevin Smith's name is being thrown around as the possible heir to the Star Wars throne. Now wouldn't that rock?

Much like Young Indiana Jones.


And this is why fans aren't allowed to make Star Wars decisions.

I hate it when people bring up Kevin Smith to direct everything. Just because he's a nerd doesn't mean he'd get it right. His strength is in writing, not directing, even he admits he's a shitty director. It's almost as annoying as when everyone says "NERD FRANCHISE X SHOULD BE DIRECTED BY PETER JACKSON" He may be a good director, but Star Wars directed by Peter Jackson wouldn't really be Star Wars.
