One point to remember with all of these things is that when it comes to fixing things in the OT, they can't just redo the effects. That is to say, the remasters were made from print negatives, not the original film elements. From my understanding they didn't go back and re-cut and re-comp the films, so any changes they make essentially have to be painted over the originals. That's not always as easy as it sounds.

One other note. After watching my Phantom Menace DVD last night(yeah, want to make an issue of it?) I noticed that Darth Maul's lightsaber wasn't fiery red! I checked my AOTC DVD and Darth Tyrannus' lightsaber isn't stark red either! They were both a sort of faded red, almost pink. Could it mean that Darth Vader's lightsaber was never meant to be RED red, that Luke's saber was never meant to be BLUE blue or GREEN green? In the web docs on PM, Nick Gillard said that Luke's saber in ANH wasn't blue, but lilac. Now I know he's no expert on lightsaber FX, but he makes a point.

I actaully thought that the saber effects in AOTC were crap. The color looked good but it had no depth or anything, just looked like they slapped the colors on top of the blades with out making it look good. My favorites are ESB and TPM those are the ones I think look really good. :chewbacca:

Agreed, TPM and ESB both had the best saber effects, with ANH obviously being worst. AOTC is really bad, though. It looks like they gave the job to the new intern.

I know this guy who works at Lucasarts that makes tons of fx projects. He redid the Obi-Wan/Dooku fight scene with his version of sabers and they looked 20 times better, I'll try and post a link or find a pic of his compared to the AOTC. :chewbacca:

I have found it to be annoying that they've only erased the shadows of the lightsabers in the last part of the Vader - Luke duel. When he has just chopped of Vaders hand. A minute before that, during the wide shot, there's still shadows. Grrr. Change them all, or don't change any of them and write it in the fiction that LS do cause shadows.

They should erase them all, because there's a shot in Episode III that's going to start people looking to see if the lightsabers casted shadows or not in IV, V, VI.

Could you tell me a bit about this shot? What it involves? Why people will look for shadows then?
