FYI: the 4 audio commentary clips I've sent to MF are:

1) Carrie Fisher talking about reading the ANH script (Blockade runner)
2) Ben Burtt talking sound (over new Ian ESB scene)
3) George talking Jabba (over new Jabba)
4) End of ROTJ

Tippy Toes dude is Irvin Kershner.

I agree about Ben Burtt - sleep inducing. There's too much Ben Burtt in the commentaries of all 5 films saying the same goddamn things...

Yeah, Burtt has a way for making this unbelievably boring. On the Indy bonus disc there was a whole featurette about him saying what sound FX were what. Indeed he is a Sound FX wizard, but cripes... And what a better time to put his voice then in the middle of probably the most anticipated change on these DVDs.

I remember Kirshner's distinct nasal baritone from the SPFX documentary back in '80.

It breaks me heart that somewhere about 12 years ago, my letterboxed Betamax copy of the mono mix without the crawl disappeared. :( We got that copy along with ESB in '80 just as ESB was hitting theaters. It was sourced from promo tapes sent to late night shows and the like.

How is the sound for the dvds is it great?

I've got a THX reciever and a nice 5.1 speaker set hooked up to my PC, and let me just say that the audio is superb! I was amazed at the overall clarity and depth of both the dialogue and the sound effects. Simply amazing.

Tell me about it. Here is Ian talking in ESB and instead of getting the low down on the changes we get BS about sound, BS that could have been brought up anywhere on the DVD, or better yet on the bonus disc.

Why does Lucas call the imperals "nazis" in the commentary right after he mentions the asteroid?

Hi everyone. Long time lurker - first time poster. Even though I'm a nub, I've been monitoring this thread since it first popped up and I must say that after a long time of making my mind up, I'm now a true believer that DF does have the finished versions of these discs. After careful scrutiny of video and images on the OS, comments in this forum and others (particularly DF and Ron over at HTF), it just seems like this is the real deal, and although not all my expecations have been met...I still can't wait til 9/21! Thanks for everything DF and the rest of you that have provided caps, audio, and video. September 21st seems so far away.

I have a question . . .

How do you make screen grabs from these films? I've tried with regular DVDs and there's a type of protection that prevents it from working.

Is there a commonly-known way around this that my common-mind isn't aware of, and if so, could someone be so kind as to share it with me?

all the time put into getting these screenshots is highly appreciated by this-a-here new member and glorious thanks is now bestowed.

The only ad I really am dying for is the Special Edition trailer for all three films that was released back in 95 (the one that began "For an entire generation") Alas, it doesn't look like its on there.

I've got a trailer where it starts with the young anakin and then shows vader, and says every saga has a beggining....

and then says you can now own the star wars trilogy on video.

Unless the "re-release" trailer on the menu posted on hyperspace is the SE trailer, or the indivicual movie titles lead to another submenu with trailers for the individual films. The re-release looks like it could be an ad for the 1981 release they did before ROTJ came out. Guess we'll have to wait and see, I'd die if its on there, though.

you mean the trailer that started like this

Shows a little TV in the middle of the screen
“For a entire generation, the only way to experience star wars was on the small screen..(Something to that effect)”

Then a Xwing comes out of the TV and take over the full theatre screen..

If so , that has to be on there, it is my all time fav.

When the Art of Star Wars exhibit hit the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the projectionist there showed Anthony Daniels an old print of that PSA which had been stored there for years. They ran it during Daniels' presentation. Daniels directed the spot.

Guess we'll have to be happy with the Star Wars television commercials available for download on the internet, because if they aren't released with this boxset, chances are they won't be released at all. Though you would think they would have a special section dedicated to them on the bonus disk.

is the 1st ever trailer on the disc, i love that one! the one that was done way before the movie was finished it makes it look really sinister, brooding music, "real world" death star alarm/siren, undubbed cockney cantina bartender "no blarsters, no blarsters", i would imagine if i saw that trailer on the big screen in 76 i would have pissed my pants on the spot, as it would have been something so new and different there would be nothing to compare it too! does that make sense

Has anyone heard if they are going to release "From Star Wars To Jedi, The Making of a Saga" from back in 83' on DVD. I have it on video, but I wasn't sure if they were ever going to release it on DVD format. Not the best "making of" but it was pretty cool how Mark Hamill narrated it.

I thought that all of the special featuers and documentaries that are going to be on the dvd were post at the OS, but I'm not sure if this was one of them.

I'm afraid "From Stars Wars to Jedi" won't be on the bonus DVD.

"Not sure if this was from that documentary, but the Behind the Magic CD-ROM had this cool 30-second clip (among many others) of Admiral Ackbar singing a song about being ugly. It was fucking HYSTERICAL!!!

Would've made the PERFECT easter egg for the bonus DVD!"

Hiya!

That clip was from the 'Classic Creatures - Return of the Jedi' documentary! Yeah it's hilarious! The guy doing it is called Tim Rose who controlled alot of the creatures in Jedi.

Cheers.

I'm most looking forward to the 2 hours documentary about star wars, it sounds like its going to be a good watch.

How many hours of special features is there? Anyone know?

That pesky explosion has always annoyed the hell out of me as well, even when I first saw it in '83! Those flames suddenly take you out of the excitment of the scene and remind you you're looking at a model! Apparently they have tweaked this scene though! Any change here has to be an improvement. Heck it looks like several cigarette lighters on full held in front of a model!!

I always thought a better ending to Jedi, and one that would make more dramatic sense (as well as an emotional scene) is for a dying Vader (somtime after Luke's removed his helmet, but he doesn't die) to gain mind control over the bridge officers after ordring Luke to get away from the Death Star. That officer - helpless to stop himself - would then steer the Executor towards the Death Star's exposed superstructure, thereby causing an explosion that tears the battlestation apart. So it's good old Darth who destroys the Emperor and the Battlestation thereby - in a way - atoning for a great deal of the atrocities he's committed in the past. With today's CGI this shot could look awsome, and really show how HUGE this battlestation is. Ahhh dream on ;-) The moment Vader/Anakin hears the sound of the destroyer hitting the Death Star he closes his eyes and smiles, then fades away as Ben/Yoda did before him, to leave the last physical signs of his dark-side to get destroyed along with the Death Star.
