I have been reading this board for the past couple of days and I decided to post on it. First of all, I want to say thanks to those who take the time to post pics and vids for the rest of us. You are awesome. I must say I am diggin the new stuff, but something is buggin me about the anakin at the end of ROTJ. If you pay close attention, right when he appears, he is looking at obi wan and yoda, but then he turns his head right when he is done appearing. I think they should have made him appear then turn his head to acknowledge them. It would have made it seem like he really was a part of the original cut. What do you think.

For those in the know, and specific to ANH - did anything ever surface in relation to Carl Cunningham's suggestion of a possibly incendiary addition to the film? I seem to remember a suggestion that it would make the Han/Greedo change seem insignificant - or has my brain's just gone totally woof-bark over the last few months).

Starman are you saying its a independent release? If so, I guess something like that will take long time to get around.

Hi DarthFirst.

Thanks for answering my questions. Do you have a picture of the DEATH STAR PLANS in a new hope ( from where Artoo is plugge in once on Yavin?

I know this was asked a long time ago, the "EMPEROR EYE WORM" was this very crappy, very noticeable fx blob that ws next to the rght eye of Palpatine in ROTJ> it always looked like there mustve been some crappy makeup done in between his eye and his hood, and they tried to cover it up with literally just black paint or something.

Do you have pictures of Dianoga?

Has the Obi/Vader duel been sped up or edited in a way to speed it up at all?

Do you have a shot of the new binary sunset?

Is the Luke & Leia mother conversation still in the movie?

Thanks!

The eye worm you call it is known as the slug, yes its fixed. Its still there but the blacked out more around Palpatine's face. Only noticable if you crank up the brightness.

I hope you'd also love to get your hands on under the table, after hours telecine time. Cause that's the only way to get around the horrid expense & legality of the sit. And why stop at 35mm? Why not go for the gusto with the big 70mm prints? :whateva:

Anyways, have a new TIE Bomber

Yeah, I agree with you guys. I'm so glad to have found a "mature" Star Wars forum to hang out at. I can even curse! Shit, Damn, Mutha...well, you get the point. I think I'm seriously getting ready to close up shop over at TFN. They have been nothing but frustrating over the last year and the people hangin there are either all little teenage sheep who want to act like teenage sheep or people hell bent on shooting any idea you put on the floor if it's not rock solid. And Lucasfilm has got them completely by the balls so news is nill on their end. Thanks again for the previews and it has only gotten me more pumped to see these DVD's.

Hint, Lucasfilm?

All news is good news, even when you can't control it.

I just don't see the point of adding the tie in that scene. I thought what made that whole bit cool was that it was sort of an underground eery docking with the Tyderium. It kind of makes you wonder "Whats the point"

Maybe I'm missing something, but wasn't the TIE Bomber always there? It's part of the original Matte Painting. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

Really I don't recall ever seeing it, I'll go check right now but I know if it was there it definetly didn't take up that much space on the screen. Oh well it's not like Hayden in ROTJ. Wait, is that shot from ESB after Cloud City?

Geesh...I'll overnight it to you for $100.00. I downloaded the DVDR and burned it yesterday (Thanks Klownicle!). But seriously, just be patient and you will end up getting it all downloaded. Don't waste your money when you can have 3 movies for half that in less than 2 months. Look for me whenever I'm on mIRC, (I'm user Chewy or Tobacco) and I'll send it to you.

I don't know but if it was i seriously need to take more notice of detail in some scenes.

Maybe it was only visble on the widescreen editions like someone said the tie was.

What do people think of the menus that were posted? I personally thought nice, but not to the same level as the prequels. Lots of 'slates' taken from the films, but very little animation - not impossible to do at home. Look at the Endor main menu for example - completely static after the shuttle lands, why not have the AT-AT moving? Again the audio options on Endor has the AT-ST moving backwards and forwards, because that's all the animation available. The Emperor's mouth open's and closes to extend his shot. As I say nice, but not great.

Unlike for the PT DVDs they had to reanimate the effects from scratch. They are pretty sweet given they are just for the DVD. RotJ disc is pretty damn sweet.

Ok, almost every pictures posted looks really great and all the minor changes (Boba's voice, the emperor) are great.

But I can't believe the Anakin ghost scene can be THAT bad. I ve just watched the comparison posted earlier and it s just TOO horrible.
I mean come one, the tender look between Anakin and OB1 has disappeared, when one is looking, the other is not and vice versa. Anakin is not even looking at the right place (he actually looks right at the camera).
It seems incredibly rushed up and badly done.

It seems clear now that this is all genuine. But could it still be a work in progress sent to dubbing company around the world ?
Anyway like the Greedo scene in the SE, this could be the little touch that ruins everything for me.

I just paused the divx of jedi on the saber clash, and turned onthe overlay controls whacked up the contrast et voila! The SABERS NOW HAVE CORES AND THE PINKNESS IS PRETTY MUCH GONE! Its really weird you can literally control how much core u want to see in the movie and its not affecting the generql picture to any degree either I would say if u have the dvd-r and if it has the THX OPTIMISER on it go through the settings and i bet that the sabers will be fixed! im gettiing my dvd-r2mrw so ill give it ago on almy monitors tvs etc!

This could be the glimmer of hope we need! It DEFINITLEY works here!

The Disc itself
-Subtitles are cut in half with every renderer (Overlay, VMR7 &VMR9), and filter (WinDVD, Sonic, NvDVD) I've used.
-Languages and Subtitles for any track other than the regular English DD-EX track are non-existent. Perhaps this was part of the reduction from dual-layer DVD9 to DVD5. If this is indeed the case, I ask that DarthFirst (or anyone else with the supposed final disc) please post a screenshot showing subtitles in English and/or foreign languages and commentary, or an audio file with either the commentary or the foreign language track. These function correctly in the prequel discs, and I would assume the same would apply for the this year's jewel in Lucasfilm's crown.
-The THX trailer before the movie may usually decode to DDEX rather than DD, but again I'm not sure
-Bitrate averages in the 6-8 range, a little low for a film like this. This, too may be the result of DVD9 to DVD5.

Yeah the people who rip the DVDs to DVDR usually cut out everything but the menus, film and Main Audio.

Pj but adjusting the colour would'nt that effect the colour of the sabers that were already red in the first place, not sure if it would because don't know much about this stuff.

This sounds quite good if your right

Flanders,
Practically everything you mentioned is a direct result of a downconversion from a DVD-9 to DVD-5.

you would think that wouldnt u! :? but it works somehow i ONLY adjusted the contrast didnt touch colour or brightness and the sabers are now back to normal,no solid block pink sabers anymore! basically it looks the same as it did in the SE's once the contrast is adjusted

Flanders, they're DVD9s. They have all languages, subtitles and soundtracks on them. I have listened to a couple of commentaries (with subtitles), I have checked the Dolby 5.1 and 2.0 soundtracks. I'm not gonna go and post a bunch of screengrabs of subtitles because, frankly, I can't be fucked. I'm not proving myself anymore to anyone who challenges whether these are finished or not, I just can't be arsed. Wait for September. I will post Dianoga and a few more Ben/Vader caps as requested by loads of people later on when I'm back at a PC.

Am also trying to get the thing ripped so you can see bits of it, but like I said, I'm a novice at this so gimme time.

BTW the menus ARE great, they have loads of animation and are very much on a par with the PT discs considering what they had to use.

I've always had minor nitpicks with the way some of these things look. For instance, one big thing to me is the color of the explosion when the two ties collide on the big asteroid.
But you learn to live with it.

Whooo! Thanks SOO much DarthFirst! :o  :bankheadbounce2:

I got one more question DarthFirst, sorry if it has been asked before. I trust you that you say it is the final DVD version, but I'd just like to see if in the credits it says copyright or whatever to acknowledge it is the 2004 version. In the ROTJ leak video, I saw it says 1997 still.

Please don't hurt me for this stupid question..

I'm a newbie also to this forum but dude, read all postings about the movie, its been answered few times. If I can do it, so can you. Nobody wants to keep repeating over and over. Its all out there, you just have to look. (What he has is the same source as you seen, so what does that tell you?)

Some Requests for Darth First (he is the man!):

1.) Screenshot(s) from the THX Trailer, some THX-Fans would really like to know, which THX-Trailer George Lucas attended to the Trilogy. Do all 3 Movies have the same THX-Trailer? (www.thx-trailer.com may help identifying)

2.) Screenshot from ANH, sunset scene with Luke. Some claim LFL has changed something here (clouds or something).

3.) Screenshot from ANH, cantina scene with lightsaber action. Some claim the Blood from the arm is gone.

4.) Please tell us the Length of each Movie (they are NTSC, right?), as they are on DVD.

5.) Do the credits still say "Dolby Digital in selected theatures" (SE) or do they say "Dolby Digital EX"? That would indicate if the credits are final or from SE Edition. That would indicate if the dvds, DarthFirst got, are final or not.

6.) Does the bonus disc, especially the documentary, contain some talk about deleted scenes? do we see some cut scenes partially? is "empire of dreams" more about the 77,80,83 productions or about the Special Editions or about the new changes on this dvd?

thanks for your time, klaus

Noticed on a repeat viewing last night of ESB that Slave 1 has been given the AOTC treatment in terms of sound-mix. It now has the engine sounds that appear in AOTC.

Also the AT ATs have been very slightly tweaked with CG in a few shots - I remember there were a couple of shots in the old version where a bakground AT AT or two were stationary - that is now no longer the case. Very subtle though, as with most changes in this new version.

:| They'll subtly change the sound of something that didn't need changing, and make the AT-ATs move, but the lightsabers---

I'll stop, this has been covered to death. But it makes NO fucking sense...

Look the GlowStick debacle - yeah, it sucks, but really, that's just how it is so let's all get over it.

On the 97 SE they had like 6-8 different people doing saber FX, probably the same situation this time round, and I reckon the same person did all the pink/non-white core saber FX and they slipped through the net.

With ANH, everything is fine except for a couple of close-ups on the Falcon which obviously slipped through, and a bad frame jump in this sequence (whereas other frame jumps, particularly when Ben turns his saber on, are significantly reduced).

Hi DARTHFIRST.
I'm not a doubter, I love what youve done for us. Are you watching them on a regular tv?
On my p.c. the entire thing is dark. And as for the saber thing, its not that big a deal. Youre supposed to be paying attention to whats happening and to who, not what hue.
Man, we need some rips of ANH and ESB. I am loving this Jedi stuff, especially the ending. It actually feels different now, and more moving after seeing the prequels. And i havnet even seen Episode 3 yet.

I'm watching on a regular TV. And you're right, once I'd noticed the pink saber and got over it, you (supposedly) are drawn into the action and story rather than worrying about it!
