This look awesome. Set in Manhattan in the 1930's - kinda War of the Worlds like. Stars Jude Law and Angelina Jolie...among others.

Looks great.

Well, it certainly looks...odd. I haven't seen any marketing for this film yet, and I've only seen the teaser trailer from about 9 months ago.

It does look quite War of the Worlds-ish, and the big robots look to me like a mixture of that robot from "Forbidden Planet" and the Cylons from "Battlestar Galactica".

Jolie's lips look very impressive though, as usual. :)

How about a trailer link?

i don't get it. lucas gets a new asshole ripped for using so much blue/green screen in the prequels and then along comes a film thats pretty much entirely blue screen and everyone falls over themselves to praise the "vision".

I'm sure it's like this: Lucas goes for a reality look, Sky Captain goes for live-action comix look. Therefore Lucas is "fake-y" and Sky Captain is "Art-y". :whateva:

the real probl;em is there's a lot of fuckwits in the world - it just so happens most of them live in Hollywood.

And that's just in Universal Citywalk.

What do you people think now that the movie has been out for a few weeks?

I'd give it a solid C+, ambitious, but awkward. It's like the director threw every homage he could think of in the film.

Not to mention that for every cool chase or visual, some lame "good boy Dex" scene offset it.

I loved it. Perfect homage to 30s/40s pulp adventure stories. Sort of like a sci-fi Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Any movie where a heroic pilot shoots giant robots with a raygun gets my approval.
