Groovy nostalgia trip episode. Loved seeing the Pit Droids and other familiar Mos Eisley sites.

How freakin' great was that! That scene with the Tuskens was pure gold. But that ending! Holy fuck! Was that Bane!?

I've never seen a science fiction TV show with more unevenness than this one.

It drives me nuts.

It waffles from state of the art cinema-quality special effects to those of the early 1990s.

If the shots were CONSISTENT the lapses wouldn't be so apparent and immersion breaking. It'd be far better to have ALL lower-quality effects shots than this ultra-high and low thing that they're doing now.

They couldn't even afford to show any starfighter debris when The Mandalorian blew it up. All we see is a fiery burst... and that's it. Star Trek The Next Generation era stuff.

Those two Tuskens were the cleanest Tuskens ever seen. And the bounty hunter nub: his suit came straight from a cosplayer's sewing machine.

And the "acting"... The mechanic, the cosplayer and the assassin - all need to strictly stick to the Civic Theaters.

And again, the melee... Walker, Texas Ranger had better. Maybe because Granpa Chuck Norris didn't need to block most of his vision with helmets when trying to pull off the stunts?

How do those FOBs work, anyway? They must be tied to baby Yoda's DNA. Pretty remarkable technology that can track one's DNA from light years away. Maybe Palpatine is helping to track?

I'm about ready to ditch the series, and dearly hope that Obi-Wan avoids the kinds of inconsistencies that I've been detailing on this forum. I hope that this series figures it out real quick.

Compare the multitudes of this series' ups and downs to a series with a MUCH smaller budget, The Expanse. The Expanse very rarely even bruises the sense of immersion. In comparison, I just can't excuse away the quality lapses that run throughout The Mandalorian.

I’ve got to say that I’m not feeling the love for this... 5 episodes in and it increasingly feels like I’m watching a fan made show on YouTube. I certainly wouldn’t say I dislike it, but it all just seems so small and irrelevant, especially when I’m viewing it alongside Watchmen... which is (IMO) far more intellectually/creatively engaging and feels like it has narrative momentum.

Episodes 4 and 5 have been low points, and in an 8-episode season with 30 minute episodes, it feels like a waste of time. I expected far more from the show at this point of the season based on the highs of episode 3. There's still three episodes left to recapture the momentum of the story, so I'm hoping it finishes strong.

I love it, love the Child, love the Mando and love how he navigates his way through the episodes. There's definitely been deliberate moments of him being lucky rather than good and I love them too. That guy at the end of 5 with the jangling spurs? I think we know who that is and that's also ok wth me. They've shown enough character, heart and love for what's gone before (FUCKING PIT DROIdS DUDE!!!) that I'm now totally commited to the rest.

It's not perfect but by fuck it's really good star wars to me.

I like the idea of Amy Sedaris as a crazy Pit droid lady. But, I'm not sure her character needed so much screen time.

I agree that the show's quality dropped with episodes 4 and 5. I think a good portion of the season's budget and attention went into episodes 1-3, which is understandable. Favreau and Disney are worried about hooking in viewers at the start. So, if the 4th and 5th episodes slide a little - it's not as big a deal.

I like that the series is employing more than one director. Each episode has its own style, which is interesting.

Unfortunately for the fourth episode, it was painfully obvious that Dallas Howard had never directed before.

This episode is only Filoni's second attempt. To me, he did an okay job. I especially liked the initial scene. The modeling is straight out of the 80's, which is fun.

I do think that Filoni was hindered by a shakily plotted script. Hopefully, Favreau will bring in an additional writer for season 2. He's done a good job with the overall story and characters. But, his dialogue can get bogged down in Stars Wars tech speak and his story arcs seem a little disjointed.

It's Bane. Apparently, his species also ages "at a different rate." Dude's old.

I expect the final three episodes will be grouped much like the first three. The season finale should be another shootout.

I'm okay with Mando taking out Bane in a gunfight (if its comes it that). Bane is infamous for abducting children for Darth Sidious. So, it would seem fitting if he is offed while attempting to take "The Child" from Mando.

I expect that Bane will reference Boba Fett once or twice on the show.

What's up with Fennec Shand getting killed so quickly?

Nope. Cad Bane is dead, per an unfinished episode arc of The Clone Wars that had Cad Bane killing him:

So, I think it’s Boba Fett.

I missed that video. Thanks for posting.

Did Filoni state that Bane died during that scene?

well, the video name from a fan says Cad Bane's death but there is no confirmation in the video, from the video alone, one could also assume its Boba Fett's death if we didn't know better- Absolutely no conformation of anything in that clip.

Maybe, but, I think after people saw how Sabine survived the Rebels Season 2 premiere when her blasts that Vader deflected hit her helmet, they could believe Boba survived with a dent hit in his helmet from Bane’s blast.

Or maybe that was the clue that the original Boba died and someone else assumed his identity... ;)

So much subtle and overt fan service, it was ridiculous. A strong showing in my humble estimation.

And that dogfight death at the beginning of the episode? :wowowow:
