If Babu Frik has only a few seconds of screen time, then Star Wars is officially dead to me. Again.

Don’t worry Rian’s trilogy is all about Babu.

"can reprogram or modify virtually any droid — regardless of the security measures protecting its systems"

Sounds like possible confirmation of the spoilers regarding 3PO's locked down Sith Language translator. Unless Disney is gonna retcon C3PO I have to wonder how this programming even came about since Anakin built him. Pretty convenient that he'd end up with spare parts for a protocol droid capable of translating ancient Sith. Unless Anakin was doing some side research and hid the memory in 3PO so Obi-Wan or the Council wouldn't bust him.

I've conveniently forgotten that Anakin built C-3PO because it is stupid.

Except ... Anakin did not build C3PO from scratch. He scavenged the parts from the shop where he was enslaved, and who knows what Annie found while gathering bits and bobs from the Tatooine sands. There are lots of protocol droids. Anakin didn't smelt the steel, twist the wires and program the translator chips. He just assembled things he found.
Does that help?

Honestly, both 3P0 and R2 could be much much older than TPM.

R2 IS much older than TPM. The movie made that clear when it showed that R2 was in Padme's possession for a while. Unless Disney decides to retcon that. The saddest thing about this? The fact that R2 will be the only droid that survives the Disney trilogy with its memory intact. Which means what? R2 may show up in a new film or trilogy set in the future further past the events of TROS.

Anakin building C3PO is less silly than most of the random coincidences and lack of logic in the sequels.
