Apparently Mark Hamill called bullshit on this poster on Twitter.

Mark runs PR flak and trolls constantly on Twitter. I wouldn't put much stock in his comments.

Didn't you see The Force Awakens?

To Abrams, R2-D2 doesn't exist.

Don't have the necessary talent to write the character, then pretend he doesn't exist.

That's funny, I distinctly remember seeing R2 in The Force Awakens.

I find the image of Luke to be especially neat. Do these photos confirm the "leaked" teaser poster?

I suspect that the Knights of the Ren are the new Captain Phasma - cool in costume, and sadly, that's about it.

So, the leaked poster is legit after all.

Apparently, the Sith Troopers were established in the EU.

Maybe I'm being cynical, but they seem like something out of fan fiction. Not the worse thing, I suppose. But, light years away from the risk-taking approach of the PT:

Doug Chiang wrote:
It was terrifying because I’d assumed when I was hired that I was going to do more of the classic designs. I had no idea where George was going to go in terms of design aesthetics.

And so that’s why it horrified me, because I’d been doing homework, studying [original Star Wars concept artists] Joe Johnston and Ralph McQuarrie, so that I could do original trilogy designs. And during one of the first meetings, George said, “You know, forget about what you think Star Wars design is. We’re going to start over. We’re basically going back 30 years to lay the foundation for all of that to explain why designs in the original trilogy look the way they do.”

And that completely floored me because I wasn’t sure what George meant. I didn’t know stylistically what he wanted to do. It scared me because literally I felt like I’d prepared for the wrong test.

Fixed that for you. :)

No, I wouldn't say there is "no understanding." Certainly, the rehashing of the Empire and Rebellion into the First Order and Resistance is lazy and against the inspired creativity of the PT & OT. But, there are elements of Rey and Kylo's stories, which are compelling, original, and add to the overall SW mythology. Plus, Rain Johnson demonstrated an understanding of key Star Wars tropes, because he knowingly subverted a few in TLJ (to varying degrees).

Like everything Star Wars, the ST is a mixed bag. For me, I feel the stuff that's off - like the rehashing - is more off-putting than the issues with Lucas' films. That's just me, however.

R WHO? I get the impression that J WHO does not like our amigo Deetwo very much. First he replaced R2 with BB-8 (who I absolutely adore more than any of the new human characters), then kept R-2 under a tarp for all of ACT ONE, then on ACT TU our little garbage pail buddy was only included because Rian apparently asked to have him there (So we could have the Leia hologram moment I guess.), and now it seems in act 3 that R2 is completely out of the picture again, presumably so we can have room for the little evil droid ... or whatever. I am not a fan of this new little shit - thank you much. Not at the expense of R2-D2.

Once upon a time I read that the entire Star Wars story was supposed to be told through the eyes of the droid R2-D2. That is clearly not the case any longer. And just to make sure, we put a bag over his head!

Where is R2-D2? Look in a wooden crate, in the back of the archives, next to that dusty old ark ....
