I'm beginning to think that, while Luke Skywalker is THE LAST JEDI, that Snoke may be THE FIRST JEDI -- an ancient force user who established the first jedi order, hence the name FIRST ORDER. He attempted to balance the force but succumbed to the dark side, etc. etc.

Yes. The ship is named after the legendary Admiral from the "Battle of Scarif."
