I agree. In terms of character interaction, dialogue, and emotional depth, this is one of the best episodes in the series.

Liked both episodes. Filoni is getting this tonally closer to TCWC now, which is something I appreciate a lot. It feels like a completely different series to series 1...

The episode was good and I didn't expected Sabine's decision at the end. We'll see what happens next.

This was a good bookend for the prior episode. I was surprised and appreciative of the ending as well.

Krownest is quite picturesque. It's interesting that Mandalore comprises of multiple systems. I wonder if the Mandalorian civil war extends into the OT time frame? Maybe the conflict will have some Anthology synergy with the Solo film?

Filoni has teased an all around return for the show. I guess the upcoming Celebration will shed light?

I'm part of the Manda-bore-ian clan so this was an a'ight episode. The highly angular homestead design was pretty cool, though.

Next week's episode looks quite bold. Wonder if they play with perspective for the entire runtime.

Yep; the plotting and tension in this one is tight. I wasn't sure if Kallus would make it out alive. I guess he won't survive the season.

Based on Thrawn's possession of Gree's helmet, is he after Yoda?

One of the best episodes of the season. Love seeing the Empire's function in greater detail like this.

Definitely one of the best episodes ever.

It was one of those episodes that felt like they sped through the material a little too quickly. There were so many opportunities to flesh it out more, and if only they had an hour's worth of time instead of a half's!

A great episode.

I hope that I don't have too many stones thrown at me here for even uttering this, but I am not a big fan of Timothy Zahn's writing. In my opinion, far too much of it is filled with boringly predictable cliches that are all too often taken in the wrong direction.

Thrawn's ability to use a culture's artwork as a tactical weapon is a perfect example of what I mean, but here, for the Very First time, its application was believable and satisfying. A miracle for the character, as far as I'm concerned!

I sadly suspect that Kallus'/Fulcrum's fate will be a dark and deadly one.

What a great character. The long term picture of Rebels is well executed.

Mon Mothma and Dantooine in this weeks episode !

I'm really starting to believe Season 4 will be the final for Rebels.

Filoni's new animated feature to be revealed at Celebration?

What a weird-ass ending. Kind of enjoyable to see something different. However, diverting from the overarching narrative always produces the poorest quality episodes.

AP-5's moment of zen!

I absolutely adore these humor-laced, droid-focused episodes. Appreciated changes of pace.

And I love how Hera took out that entire comms ship. Wildly unexpected but hilarious in its bordering on total ridiculousness!

I really liked this episode up until Hera reversed teh feed on the communication ship. Even in Star Wars, it seemed like a far fetched tactic and result.

Hopefully next week lives up to its billing. It should be amazing.

I really wish the story wasn't caged in the narrative of Rebels. The resolution of Maul / Kenobi arc should be a standalone special or movie.

Whaa? After more than twenty years of build up, several of the greatest sabre fights in Star Wars, and twenty minutes of Ezra walking in the sand - both this episode and the Maul/Kenobi rivalry are settled in just three strokes of the blade? Gimme a break!

Kenobi might as well have waved a hand and killed Maul with a feather push backwards. WTF? I am thoroughly unimpressed. I suppose it is to show that Kenobi was still a total warrior when he meets Vader on the Death Star and was just toying until Luke was in place to see him fall.

But I have to go outside of the story to find that reason. Is there an in-story reason for this pathetic display? Maul wasn't even hit ... just his weapon. Is this Disney's bloodless coup? Two lekku down.

No, this is how it should have ended.

Kenobi was a master, Maul was not. How many times has Filoni shown this same concept repeated where Master/Apprentice dual?

It, in all honesty, puts things into perspective. Ezra is an apprentice. Kanan is barely a knight. Maul was still an apprentice throwing a tantrum. We haven't seen a real master swing a stick in a while.

Additionally, philosophically, it fits, perfectly. Maul was over-aggressive, and Kenobi knew he would be. He's predictable.

This went down the exact way it should have been.

Kenobi had way more to lose than Maul had to gain. I got the sense through this episode that Maul knew he was going to die. That's the resolution he almost wanted. I get that marketing hyped this up as an epic showdown, but I really liked the resolution and Maul's final words. Vengeful to the very end.

My only beef is that Ezra now knows a very deep secret, and I can't believe he would just shut his mouth about discovering Obi-wan. It also shrinks the universe that Obi-wan and Ezra would even cross paths.

The ending with Kenobi observing Luke was awesome, and it sounded like they pulled Beru's dialogue straight from ANH. I have to listen to it again to be sure.

Awesome performances from Stanton and Witwer, as always.

There's almost a "finish what you started" mentality from Maul.

Obi stated it, and he wanted Obi to finish it.

Filoni makes yet another well-directed and well-written episode of Rebels worthy of fitting in Star Wars canon. BTW, I'm sure you guys have mixed feelings on the lightsaber fight at the end. Filoni expected that to be controversial. Hear him say that at this interview he did with io9 as well as his teasing on how this episode will change Ezra in Season 4: http://io9.gizmodo.com/the-producer-of- ... 1793376931

Also, here's the longest Rebels Recon yet as Filoni and cast & crew talks about what went into making this episode and why it had to be what it was: https://youtu.be/8eIZsJsck7A

Also, here's a little Star Wars YouTube In Memoriam Video for Maul that Lucasfilm did: https://youtu.be/7WXcdM-OCLs

Cryostar nailed it.

A beautiful episode in all its simplicity. And I loved Maul's dialogue as he died. They mirrored Qui-Gon's in a perverse way.

The ending was note-perfect.

I thought that the entire episode was beautifully straightforward. Every line written for Ben Kenobi and delivered by Stanton was spot-on for the ANH version of the character.

I wasn't expecting an elaborate end battle. So, the three-hit duel felt like the right choice. Besides, Maul's "death" in TPM seems born from Sanjuro's climax. So, his quick demise in "Twin Suns" is like a compliment of the initial homage.

Through TCW and Rebels, Maul blossomed into a surprisingly complex character. Filoni deserves a lot of credit for crafting an intelligent villain who could be both powerful and pitiable.

This could be a future plot point and good reason for bringing Lord Vader back to the show. I get the sense that neither Kanan nor Ezra are going to survive the series. Maybe Vader ends the two of them while attempting to find his former master? They sacrifice themselves in order to protect Obi-wan and by-extension Luke, the savior of the Rebellion. That would be a poignant conclusion for both.

Very satisfying conclusion to Mauls arc for me. Fantastic episode and the voice acting was bloody brilliant. Stanton's Sir Alec was spot on.
Kinda felt sad for Maul at the end there.

Great episode. The final face off definitely had a Kurosawa influence to it. Although the first thing it reminded of was the scene in Seven Samurai where Kyûzô cut down another samurai in similar fashion. The final scene in Sanjuro is just as apt though as well. The visuals, animation and acting were all top notch in this ep. Loved the final shot on the homestead.

Yeah; it's more Seven Samurai than Sanjuro (as Filoni states):

Upon second viewing, I remembered that Ezra tells the whole Ghost crew that Obi-wan is on Tatooine. So, they all should be on Vader's list.

I also have realized that the Obi-wan and Maul Pietà mirrors Obi-wan and Qui-gon in TPM.

At first I wasn't happy James Arnold Taylor wouldn't be doing the old Obi-Wan voice in Rebels, as he'd done such a superb job of voicing the character in The Clone Wars.

However, Stephen Stanton absolutely nailed the old Obi-Wan voice. I don't think it can be done any better.

While I would have cut about 2 minutes out of Ezra and Chopper walking around the desert (trade that time out for more Maul/Obi in the desert), this episode was wonderfully scripted and directed. The desolation and isolation of Tatooine were very well conveyed. Joel Aron's lighting work, always an A+ in Rebels and TCW, reached another level in this episode. We're fortunate to have someone of his talents working on our franchise.

I am very satisfied at the completion of Maul's story. His descent into madness was compelling, a process greatly helped by the voice work of Sam Witwer.

Obi-Wan's time in the Tatooine desert between ROTS and ANH is the single most fascinating untold story of Star Wars to me, so getting even a glimpse of it was enthralling to me.

Finale promo:

The Grand Inquisitor perished in the season 1 finale. Three inquisitors were offed in the season 2 finale. I suspect that Kallus will be offed in season 3's finale? Will anyone else go?

The inquisitors feel like an untied loose end in the series. Why did they suddenly disappear after season 2? And they never explained the first inquisitor's Mortis connection.

In any case, I've got a feeling that this finale is gonna leave our dear band of rebels broken and in tatters. It better. Otherwise, this Thrawn's all hat and no cattle. Lame!

Read the book...enjoyed it. But like so many novels, the title of the book (Kenobi) was not indicative of the primary subjects of said novel. The book only briefly touched upon his thoughts and feelings post-ROTS. Didn't do as deep of a dive as I would have wanted. But still a strong story, well-written and well-told.

Good finale, but Thrawn didn't get the kill shot he needed for an end-of-season payoff to his scheming. If next season is to be the last, then one of the Ghost crew (probably Kanan) should have perished in this episode. I also wished Thrawn's infatuation with studying his enemy's art paid off in a more clever way; his strategies ended up being pretty run of the mill military maneuvers. Entertaining nonetheless.

Good Rebels Recon explaining the event s in this episode and giving good details and teases of what's coming in Season 4, especially with that chilling concept art of what might be Mandalore after the Clone Wars and the Mandalorian Civil War: https://youtu.be/MyUY7LnE4ls

With Filoni saying Season 4 will bring closure to character arcs of characters from Clone Wars along with them showing Ahsoka as Filoni talks about that topic, it makes me hopeful Ahsoka will return and we'll know what happened to her following her duel with Vader.
