Here's the first clip from season 3 - it was shown in The Star Wars Show program today. Some people in the comments are saying that Ezra's new hair reminds them of Galen Marek from TFU, if Kanan could be Rahm Kota's equivalent.

Looks like the new Ezra has evil eyebrows, just like the later versions of Anakin in Clone Wars. Oh oh! And, yeah, I was just thinking of the old blind jedi master, and how the apprentice helped create the rebellion, and the willingness of story group to embrace the EU in spirit ... and the Galen connection seems to make sense to me. Perhaps Ezra becomes Vader's secret apprentice. Then, if he survives IV-VI in the shadows he can emerge in the new Disney era as a Bridger of the saga, crossing all three eras.

Yeah, Filoni and company are defiantly informed by the EU. After the finale for Season 2, I doubt that Ezra will become Vader's apprentice.

Yeah, me too. It really feels like the characters are growing and changing over time. If only they didn't wear the same clothes every day! ;-)

And I remember reading someplace that Ezra was due for a growth spurt, based on how Leia looks and since they are the same age. So it suits him. But I think this is the most dramatic update to a character since they covered Asoka's midriff ... or maybe Rex et al lol.

E_CHU - What about the finale makes you doubt? It seems like Ezra might seek revenge against Maul, step in dark poodoo to get the job done and then "forever will it dominate his destiny" as he seeks even more power to overthrow Vader and Sheeve. (Sheeve? Really? Say it taint so!) The apprentice seeks the power to kill the master, in the long dark tradition.

I mean, he has to go bad. Or die. Right? Sadly, I vote for bad over martyr. But what do you think?

Bander, I am in the Ezra Snoke camp too. But I don't think looks are the best clue since I also think the hologram Snoke uses is a disguise - a la Wizard of Oz. I mean obviously he is not 100 feet tall...
And maybe this is the wrong thread, but
I just love the Who Is Snoke? mystery we were given by TFA. It is almost as good as Who is Rey's father? (My vote ... Sheeve! lol)

As far as Ezra knows, Vader offed his friend Ahoska. He's not going to buddy-up with Vader after that.

Yes, Ezra could die. It's possible that he would sacrifice himself for the greater good. It would a heartbreaking and highly emotional end for his arc. In other words: good story telling.

He could also go rogue a la Ahoska and renounce the Jedi Order.

He could also pull a Steve Rogers and freeze himself in carbonite until a future time.

The Dark Side is just one of many possibilities for Ezra. Right now, this Snoke theory is a huge reach.

Filoni may understand Star Wars better than anyone on the planet.

It's good to see that Rebels' models and environments are now on the same level as the Clone Wars. Both Tom Baker and Lars Mikkelsen sound wonderful in the trailer.

Great trailer. Episodes 1 and 2 of the new season are a good solid start.

I agree that it appears the animation quality has finally caught up to where TCW left off.

I found the Bendu character the most intriguing. Could he be related to the folks in Mortis, or the Force priestesses? I also like the homage the name pays, as it was one of the first written by George Lucas in his 1973 draft of The Star Wars.

Maul capturing the Ghost crew could also have implications for Ezra. It's one thing for Ezra and Kanan to deal with someone like Maul on that Force-user level, but for Maul to now become a threat to the others in the crew, it introduces feelings of anger and guilt for Ezra. Fast tracks to the dark side.

Anyone catch what looks to be the Outrider flying through space? I suppose it's already canon since it made a cameo in ANH: SE but if they actually brought Dash Rendar and the Outrider into the narrative that would be pretty cool.

Good catch. During the panel Q&A, a fan in the audience identified the Outrider in the trailer, and Filoni confirmed that the ship was an Outrider-type, though Filoni then shot down the idea that it was Dash Rendar was piloting that ship.

I wouldn't mind the introduction of Rendar into the new canon at all. He feels more "disposable" than Thrawn does. I think Rendar's personality and style would translate well in this medium. He could swoop in, do his thing for a few episodes, then fly off to do other freelance jobs "off-screen."

I enjoyed Shadows of the Empire, though parts of the novel were written in rather silly fashion (everyone looks like a giant spider, apparently). I found the characters (for the most part) believable within the GFFA. The year between ESB and ROJ also hasn't been touched by the new canon yet, and (for me) that's the most interesting between-films time period in the OT era.

Filoni has won me over twice now. I remember walking out of the Clone Wars theatrical movie feeling betrayed and that show developed into something beloved. Same with Rebels, first season missed the mark for me but I'm all into it by the end of Season 2. He definitely knows what he's doing and he's proved that he can interpret George's ideas in very good ways. With his reputation for being a maverick, I hope he stays to guide Lucasfilm for a long time.

Cornering Shadows of the Empire: At some point, I expect Prince Xizor to show-up on Rebels. The Clone Wars already canonized the Black Sun, after all.

On my EU wishlist is Starkiller. Vader has to have a secret apprentice somewhere, right?

Notice the final shot from the Rebels Season 3 trailer where Ezra and Maul are binding the holocrons. Kanan is also there sans mask.

I found the conversation below to be fascinating. It covers Filoni's transition from guy with a cosplay Plo Koon costume to an "unqualified" Star Wars director.

The parts about meeting and working with George, and his handling of voice actors are particularly interesting.

Nice. Maybe Bo Katan passes on the dark saber to Sabine?

Here are the first few episodes:

  • 01-02: Steps into Shadow, Parts 1 & 2
  • 03: The Holocrons of Fate
  • 04: The Antilles Extraction
  • 05: Hera's Heroes
  • 06: The Last Battle

Maybe the Sith holocron is giving Ezra an "unnatural" advantage?
