Dumb question...is this film intended to exist in the same universe as the Nolan Batman films?

It will take a lot for me to see Bruce Wayne in Ben Affleck instead of seeing Ben Affleck in Ben Affleck.

Nope, the Nolan films are in their own bubble. The new shared DC cinematic universe starts with Man of Steel and all future DC films will be included in it. The TV shows (Arrow, Flash, Gotham, SuperGirl) however are not included in the new movieverse (for some lame reason) but do share the same tv world. At least Arrow and Flash do, not sure about Gotham or SuperGirl yet.

I thought they had come out and stated, planely, that Nolan would be an elseworlds batman, and that the in continuity batman would start in Superman/Batman.

That Civil War trailer did nothing for me. Then again, I got off the Marvel train years ago.

Love the whole feel of what seems like a Superman black site.

I'm fairly convinced Warner/DC don't know what they're doing.

This is a prime example of going full retard when there was absolutely NO reason to. Why would you reveal Doomsday in any trailer? He looks like he's just escaped from the mines of Moria. Did they suddenly think no one was going to be interested in seeing this movie? This is a knee jerk reaction to the TFA and Civil War trailers, both of which absolutely crushed.

I had some pretty high hopes for BvS which have now somewhat tempered. Eisenberg's Luthor didn't help the situation.

MoS told me all I needed to know about the DCCU. It's misguided and Zack Snyder is the absolute wrong person to steer this ship.

This doesn't move the needle for me in the slightest.

Is that Wonder Woman at the end of the trailer?

I wasn't the least bit interested in this until now.

This looks terrible.

I could never get onboard with Affleck as Batman.

No way.

The WW chick looks like she's on the potty at the end of the trailer.

I'm waiting for number one or number two to come flying out.

I saw this trailer on the big screen when seeing TFA again.

Yeah. I really need to do some naughty things to Wonder Woman's panties. :bunnys:

Early word is that it's a giant boring uninspired mess. Not good for the DCCU, which Zack Snyder is doing his best to destroy before it gets going.

I'll reserve judgement and see for myself this weekend. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised but not expecting much.

Snyder always seemed to me to be one of those directors who could do one thing really well (make visually stimulating action/comic book films), but he needed a good team to make sure other parts of the film were up to par. For example, I disliked Watchmen's script, but I loved seeing shots and scenes that meticulously recreated panels and pages from the comic. Also, I liked Man of Steel, but I figured that it ultimately worked for me due to Goyer's and Nolan's involvement in writing.

I definitely wouldn't have made him the one steering the creative ship for the DCCU, if I were a Warner executive. I'll withhold judgment for BvS until I see it, and I'm enough of a sheep to give the DCCU a few movies before I holistically judge it.

Just got back from it.

It's not a 29% RT-type movie but it's severely disjointed and poorly written. Extremely overstuffed with completely insignificant material and subplots. My biggest takeaway was that the filmmaking team in charge of DC needs to be replaced. They can't tell a clear and coherent story to save their lives. There's good material in BvS - just like there was good material in MoS - but it's completely lost because the sum is hollow, meaningless and pretty boring.

You get A-class actors giving pretty good performances in front of solid production design, but these movies have failed from a storytelling 101 perspective. It's far too early to reboot the DCCU, but it's clear they aren't going to be able to compete with Marvel until they "refresh."

They put a lot into this film. What a mess for DC.

I haven't seen the film yet. From an outside perspective, it sounds like the main problem is Snyder. So, maybe the upcoming DC films will benefit from more competent direction? Of course, there's the chance of another Green Lantern, which had a capable director.

CoGro, what were top 2 best and worst aspects of the movie?

Best:

- Batman: Affleck does a heck of a job as Bruce Wayne and Batman. When Batman is revealed he appears scary in a way he hasn't before, and his fighting style is as pulled from the pages of the comics/Arkham games.
- The opening sequence: A great way of showing the end battle from the perspective of people on the ground while setting up Bruce's motivation.

Bottom 2:

- The writing: None of the characters do anything that makes any sense. Batman literally "befriends" Superman after their fight because their mothers share the same first name. He goes from thinking Superman was responsible for the bombing at Congress, and wanting to murder him, to being his best bud after Superman pleads "protect Martha." Never mind that Superman wasn't responsible. Thread is not resolved on screen and Batman says to Martha when saving her "I'm a friend of your son's" literally a minute after preparing to impale him. It's an amateur effort.
- Lex Luthor: Jesse Eisenberg plays one character - Mark Zuckerberg. Every character he's done since has been a riff on his Social Network role. It's the exact same here and it doesn't work. This was a terrible choice.

Bonus:

Justice League set ups: This was so lazily done that I felt embarrassed watching it. The "meta humans" are revealed in email videos. Wonder Woman and Batman literally watch email videos to ID Cyborg, Flash and Aquaman. It was a joke. Totally distracted from what was already a poorly written movie. It felt like spreading liquid shit on the bread of your turd sandwich.

This is what a director who has no connection to the source material sounds like.

Loud, joyless mess of a movie. The main takeaways for me, and I'm being as gracious as possible, was Jeremy Irons' inspired casting, a moment or two out of the titular fight, Batman's fighting style and, lastly, Batman's wacked out post-apocalyptic vision. That's pretty much it.

Also, not enough diarrhea references in this thread. :spray:

I very much enjoyed the portrayal of Batman in this. Affleck was awesome.

I do feel that the Superman material basically brought it down. The Batman stuff was solid. That was the only reason I saw it. I actually kinda liked psycho Lex. I mean, he was at least entertaining. The rest of the Superman stuff just bored the fuck out of me. But then they would cut back to Batfleck and Jeremy Irons as Alfred. That kept it afloat. Don't get me started on that ridiculous computer fight with the stupid looking CGI monster Lex creates in the Kryptonian spaceship indoor swimming pool.

not quite a full steaming pile of shit, but more like "Grannie's Peach Tea"

good: Batman/Wayne. I'd say 80% correctly portrayed. Best VISUAL representation of Batman yet. But this Batman kills like he's playing a Call of Duty game. That's a big no no for the character.

The overall visuals and CGI were top notch, quality all around. Superman looks fantastic, and the fight scenes are awesome. This is a badass looking Superhero movie, but that's as deep as it goes.

Bad:
This is where it all goes to shit. This is a blonde whore on a one night stand with no foreplay and no conversation afterwards. Just straight fucking a pretty girl and telling her to pick up her $20 on the way out the door. Plot half-way makes sense, characters do things....well, just because. Characters are introduced for no reason at all. Example, the desert scene with Lois. You know her photographer / CIA guy? Did you know that was Jimmy Olson? Yup! Shot dead in the face. You didn't even get his name, but he's credited at the end.

Kevin Costner in the Arctic? Yup. Why? Shit only knows.

Superman pulling a giant boat through the ice by a chain? Fuck yeah man, why not!

Batman in his Batmobile shooting a tether into another car, then dragging the car as he chases ANOTHER car, then whipping the drug car around and slamming it down onto some bad dudes, squashing them dead? Hell fucking yes he does. and he kills a shit load more in his Batwing, and he brands people, and stabs people, and has dreams of him shooting people point blank, and then smashes their heads in with the gun, and then flips over and blows some more motherfuckers away, and then flying demon bugs come and kick ass and carry people off like the monkeys from the wizard of oz and oh FUCK, who is that giant dude behind Batman, some demon guy who knocks Bats out, then he wakes up from the dream only to see the Flash from the future, then he wakes up again. Which part was a dream again??

This movie seems like a part 1 of a 3 part trilogy that will only partially make sense if you see them all. Edited by a 15 yr old with ADHD, it's good for a night you don't have anything else to do.

Hopefully Snyder gets a better writer next time because he's starting to film Justice League next month!

:funkyflash: :spray: :o

Seems like everyone has an issue with Batman killing except me. Probably because I grew up with the Michael Keaton version that blew motherfuckers away with automatic weapons, bombs, missiles, dynamite and fire. The Nolan villains wouldn't have lasted against these versions of Batman.

If you want to make Batman a killer, I'm OK with that if you explain the rules of the world and it makes sense within that context. I can buy that a grizzled, aged Batman has lost his way and will do whatever it takes to end crime.

My biggest issue with the movie is that it makes no goddamn sense.

True. I think the reasoning behind Batman killing or allowing deaths is that he's going up against cunning terrorist organizations armed with automatic weapons, bombs, chemical weapons and Christ knows what else nowadays. If you want these films to take place in a kind of "realistic" setting that parallels our own world, it's not exactly believable for Batman to combat these bastards without weapons of his own and a "no killing" rule. It's kind of kill or be killed. I mean, I'm all for Batman finding clever ways to foil the bad guys, but is he supposed to stop these killers with grappling hooks and nets?

Rumour mill says Snyder and WB having massive problems re his vision for Justice League. Looks like Wan might exit Aquaman and Flash just lot its director over the DC/WB dysfunction.

After walking out of BvS my first thought was that the DCCU was DOA. Looks like WB thinks so too and is looking to manage this mess. I think they should make Superman fly around the earth, turn back time and restart the DCCU.

my heart bleeds for them....they should stick to animation....they don't seem to be able to fuck that up as much.

I can't believe WB was so stupid in the first place. They should have seen this failure coming from miles away. BvS (with the help of MoS) destroyed not so much its own ticket sales as the reputation of all DCCU movies to come.

I'm actually really excited for the Killing Joke. I'm sure it'll be great.
