I really don't have any interest in this movie at all. I wish I did.

I'm not philosophically opposed to "stand alone" Star Wars movies but this wouldn't be the first place I'd choose to explore new Star Wars storytelling when I have an entire universe to draw from. This and the Solo movie make absolutely zero sense to me.

You're King of All Star Wars...Pick three movie subjects you would make happen. I'm curious for your answer.

My top 3 would be:
1. Obi-Wan film set between ROTS and ANH. It probably would not be commercially successful, but that is the #1 story I want to see told, with Ewan McGregor in the role. I want to see how he lives with his regret, sadness, etc. while maintaining hope for the future (Luke). A nice parallel subplot could center on Vader, not only to put the spotlight on him as a character, but to make a film like this more palatable to the public.

2. Boba Fett coming-of-age story. With anti-heroes being as popular as they are, this is one begging to be made (and still might be).

3. The gestation - and eventual destruction - of Luke's Jedi academy, set between ROJ and TFA. Sadly, Hamill would be unable to realistically play the part (too old), but given the revelations of TFA, this would be a powerful story to be told.

I'd go even further: I'd love to see another clash between Vader and Ben, before they get old. And the reason for this - beside a possible kick-ass Force battle between them - is the fact that since ROTS I have a problem with two quotes from ANH and ROTJ: "You can't win, Darth" and "Obi Wan once thought as you do." In my opinion, there is a huge emotional gap between "You were my brother, Anakin" and that cold "Darth" quote. Something must have happened. Something more dramatic than 20 years of solitude. And the other quote suggests that at some point Obi Wan actually tried to bring Vader back to the light side, which never happened in ROTS. Who knows, maybe there's enough room for more than one movie about it. McGregor is there. McDiarmid too. Heck, even Christensen (if we really need to see Vader without helmet, to which most of you will probably scream: "Nooooo!" ;) ).

And going back to the topic: to me, Rogue One is kind of safe bet for Disney (which is logical, since they want their 4 billion investment to pay off ASAP). Granted, no Force, no Han Solo (except for a cameo, I heard today), no Luke etc. But we get all the familiar hardware (from X-wings to Death Star) plus a familiar plot, connected in a straight line with the holy ANH ;) . Who knows, maybe we're in for some surprises, like appearancess of Vader, Tarkin, Bail Organa or the Emperor? And in the same time, this "safe bet" is a strong signal to the viewers: look folks, we have so much more in store than just Skywalker saga. They need to do it early on, the sooner the better.
I think I'd do exactly the same that Disney just did.

I've always liked the idea of a movie about Obi-Wan set between III and IV, where he's trying to keep out of sight from the Empire but still feels compelled to help people.

The "good question for another time" of how the Skywalker lightsaber eventually came into Maz's possession begs for its own movie. It gets found in the bowels of Cloud City by some lowly worker, then word gets out and it becomes the target of a whole bunch of unsavory characters and the chase is on.

Christ, this never ends.

What in the fuck is so alluring about Obi-Wan meditating in his sand hut and perfecting his krayt dragon call on Tatooine for 20 fucking years?

That would never a movie make.

I can see the stand alone Han story involving a lot of Fett.

They may even call the movie: Han Solo vs Boba Fett.

OK, maybe not but I do think Fett's story will be interwoven into the Han movie.

That would make a lot of sense to do so.

A crime caper of sorts, detailing more of the underworld.

No doubt an Imperial element to the setting.

Showcasing more worlds, like the Hutt planet Nar Shadaa.

1. The Great Sith War. An epic that takes place 1000 years before Episode 1. It can be filled with mythology that plants seeds for the "Skywalker" storyline. Tell me how the Jedi Order we know in Episode 1 came into being, the galaxy's discovery of the Force. What is the Sith's motivation? I want to know more about the dark side and the origin of the Rule of 2.

2. Bounty Hunters movie starring Boba Fett. The plot would involve hunting down a simple bounty, but it turns out to be something much greater - either a conspiracy or trap set to take Boba out of the game. Events from the main episodes can be alluded to as "easter eggs" but I don't want this movie to impact the mythology in any way. No need to shed light on any backstory, no cameos from the main cast (especially no recasting of famous roles), just give me a fast-paced action crime thriller. I think a good time setting would be between 3 and 4. The ending would shed light onto why Fett is the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy.

3. I really like the idea of a gritty special forces-type movie (like Rogue One) but taking place between VI and VII. I think there could be a lot of unique action with the focus on the cost of war, particularly in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor.

I see Fett showing up in both Rogue One and the Solo movie. Maybe. Cad Bane as well.

Since Disney is skewing young with its Star Wars movies, I don't see them doing an Obi-wan film. Besides, it would ruin the continuity of ANH. He hasn't been called Obi-wan since before Luke was born.

There could be a Young Kenobi story. Obi-wan McGregor could be tell Qui-gon Neeson the tale in flashback. But, that's just a long-shot guess.

Since Maul's story hasn't been completed, that's always a possibility. Disney seems to dislike the PT. So, it would take a great script to convince them. Or, maybe the allure of Vader vs. Maul will be too much for them to resist.

Concerning Rogue One, I am hopeful for the movie until I have reason not to be. I would love to be an extra on the Death Star set or a random pilot in an OT X-wing. I would sob like Kevin Smith.

That's a great idea. But, I don't see Disney going backwards in time (past the OT). If anything, they would set it 1,000 years in the future where the Force has to be rediscovered and new Jedi and Sith orders are formed.

I've been dying to see Nar Shadaa in the movies since I played Jedi Outcast lol.. the vertical planet! You would think it would be a great place to incorporate into a Boba Fett or bounty hunter movie.

I know KOTOR isn't considered canon anymore.. at least not yet. But like CoGro I would love something like this set in the distant past. Something that sheds light on the mysteries of the Sith. Something like this may not happen until after the conclusion of the ST cause I'm not sure they could delve into a completely different time frame such as this in a single standalone movie.

Can't wait for Rogue One though and it would be cool if they did include some back story on Lor San Tekka

I loved the concept of "Underworld" and that should definitely be explored more in these stand alone films.

Nar Shadaa would be great to see represented in a film. Ditto for Nal Hutta. I want to see Black Sun on film, Prince Xizor, etc. There' so much there to explore and it doesn't have to do anything with the Skywalker saga.
