What are we looking at here? PG? PG-13, perhaps?

My instant guess is PG-13. These trailers suggest a film that's far darker than any of the previous films. Matched perhaps with ROTS or the darkest parts of ESB.

But I'd really admire Abrams if he can keep the family-friendliness and PGness of the majority of the saga while still managing to deliver something with at least some teeth (i.e., some of the original bleakness and outright brutality of ANH).

I'd want it to be PG for continuity purposes.

Doesn't matter and shouldn't matter as long as they make the best possible film.

Agreed. Ratings don't mean jack shit anymore anyway.

Yeah, yeah. No news and no trailer is making me really stretch for discussion content.

The rating won't faze me either way either. It's just that the series has always attempted to be tame enough for a very general audience. Wonder if the trend continues. I know some parents who don't take their kids (of 7-10 years of age) to see PG-13 films. I fear that many young voices will suddenly cry out in terror over such a rating.

??
Sith was PG-13. I think Disney will appeal to the widest audience with this one and continue with PG. Ultimately it's whatever the story calls for.

Avengers, Jurassic World and The Dark Knight are rated PG13. These films did not struggle financially and I'm pretty sure their intended audience of children got to see them.

We are really reaching for something to talk about when this is a topic for discussion.

well it's looking like it's rated PG-13. apparently from actual, printed tickets that went on sale yesterday, the rating is PG-13.
