It's always cool when the scientific community presents a possible solution that seems ripped straight from the pages of classic sci-fi.

A space elevator featured in a Clone Wars episode some years ago. The concept was originally conceived of by Arthur C. Clarke.

I have dreamed of this since I read Fountains of Paradise and then Gundam 00 had orbital elevators as well. Imagine taking a elevator up and gradually feeling gravity lessen its grip on you. When I was a very young kid I was sure we would have speeder bikes and orbital elevators and mobile suits sometime early in the new millennium. The only thing we have gotten so far from my sic fi books as a kid are Data Pads, and I am not even sure when star wars books first mentioned them. I think it was before iPads came out.
