The Wrap is now reporting that the second Anthology film will be a Boba Fett origin story.

If this is really going to be a Boba Fett standalone, they need to get Joe Johnston onboard. He's expressed interest before, he's a capable action director and basically owns the creation of the character.

Would a better label be "A Boba Fett coming-of-age film" rather than "origin story?"

I always thought a Fett-centered film was a no-brainer for a stand-alone. A popular character, who can have a story constructed around him that can turn him sympathetic, seems like a winning formula for Disney/LFL.

I would almost imagine it to be a Dredd-like film where Fett has a singular mission to hunt someone down and kick ass along the way.

If these Anthology movies are designed to be gritty and standalone, then they should have a tone that is distinct from the Episodic films.

I think I'd like to see Fett as a "Man With No Name" type in a western-style film.

The caveat to Fett's coolness is that it works best when we see less of him. The only scenario I would maybe like to see would be him tracking a bounty.

Yes, but remember this rumor about a retcon: Boba Fett is said to be “a mantle” whose “name, ship and armor gets passed down to a successor."

This Anthology film could be an origin story about the original Boba Fett or center on the "new" Boba Fett from ST era. Wacky, but tolerable if Fassbender plays the lead.

A year ago there were reports that Pablo "Pabawan" Hildago stated their would be no Fett retcon.

One of the reports: starwarsunderworld.com hidalgo-on-rebooted-fett-rumors-dont.html
The Facebook post: facebook.com /SWPTrilogy/

A year ago Starwars-Union.de reported about a Hasbro Europe event which featured upcoming Lucasfilm projects.
(Obviously a year later the schedule can change.)

2015 • Episode VII
2016 • Boba Fett
2017 • Episode VIII
2018 • Solo
2019 • Episode IX
2020 • Red Five

Going by recent reports, rumors and speculation: Rogue One is Red Five reincarnated, with Solo for Anthology II and Fett as Anthology III.

2016 • Rogue One (Red Five)
2018 • Solo
2020 • Boba Fett

I would hate it. I dont agree with Paul Bateman on this one bit. This would be a kick in the nuts to GL and I truly hope they do not dare do that!

What I really hate is the Han Solo part of this rumour.

Let's be clear: you cannot have an actor who is not Harrison Ford play Han Solo in a time period even remotely close to the OT.

Some people have called the Han Solo character a "James Bond" type where anyone can play Solo and it will still work. Those people are fucking idiots.

This would be jarring and it would de-canonize the film for me.

They could hire the dude who did that killer impression of him (more looks than anything else) on YouTube*. See below:

That would kinda do it for me. But, then again, I'm not taken with the idea of these Anthology films at all.

*Movie studios have already pounced on the likeness and hired him for a film where he co-stars with Ford, playing a younger version of him.

Yeah, that kid is good. But an impressionist is not necessarily a good actor.

Why not create new characters we can embrace, rather than insisting we always have to have younger versions of the guys and gals with whom we are already familiar? :?

This.

The Anthology films should explore the wider galaxy and stay as far away as they can from the main Skywalker storyline.

Count me with everyone apprehensive of including Han or any other major characters from the original trilogy. It's just one of those completely unnecessary "It's a small world galaxy after all!" moments nobody really wants, like Yoda just happening to know Chewbacca or kid Anakin building C-3PO on his own.

And from Han's perspective, I like the "Right place, wrong guy" happenstance of meeting Han and Chewie in Mos Eisley to bring them in the story; Han's a low-life looking to score some easy money, but gets more than he bargained for and ends up becoming a pretty alright guy in the end. Retconning these characters into some sort of predestination thing of intermingling fates kind of robs that element to their arcs.

I don't think the people who took over the franchise are that dumb. But, intermingling fates aside, I believe there's plenty of room for "Younger Han Solo adventures". A scoundrel, to be sure, he was already a lovable character when we first met him, right? So why not explore the "lovable scoundrel" direction? It would hardly be the first movie where we'd actually root for an outlaw/smuggler/thief/whatever.

About that Anthony Ingruber / Ford lookalike guy... Has anyone here seen him in "The Age of Adaline"? Was he actually any good as young Ford? He's good as impressionist, in my opinion, but what about his acting skills?
