Whitta had only been brought in to write an initial draft of the script.

The story of the film had apparently been established by the Lucasfilm Story Group and Whitta's job was to take their story treatment and turn it into an actual script.

In addition, it was also part of the original plan for Whitta to leave the project after a year of work and have someone else come in and finish the script off.

The first stand-alone film allegedly comes out in Dec. 2016. Anyone else wondering why Disney/LFL hasn't released, ya know, the subject of this movie yet?

That's nearly 2 years off don't worry.
