Nice, I'd say that's my money shot as well. In fact, Luke talking to any ghost (perhaps even being introduced to Qui-Gon) would be equally great.

This is it. I have a feeling the sequels will largely ignore the prequels, since that seems to be the case any time anyone brings up Star Wars, but I hope this moment happens.

The sequel trilogy doesn't have to be an opportunity to distance Star Wars from the prequels, but to connect them. I'd flip if I saw old Luke talking to Ghost Anakin. But these sequels are made for the casual Boba Fett lovers, not the diehard fans who spent the past 10 years on a Star Wars fan message board...

A shot of something wholly new, original and unexpected. Something that reminds me of neither the PT nor the OT. Something that exceeds my imagination. Something that redefines Star Wars.

I'm the kind of person that's open to experiences like that in film. Maybe even in life, to a degree. I'm not like some involuntary biological function that rejects foreign matter and only accomodates what is familiar beyond a certain susceptible point.

But if that something wholly new... isn't in the cards, a shot of an aged, weathered and grizzled Luke igniting his lightsaber would be rad as fuck.

I agree.

One of the things that made The Clone Wars so great for me, was when they would refer to past events from either TPM or AOTC.

It's these instances, that bring it on home for me.

I hope there are references - even if they're a visual one - to all six films and even The Clone Wars series.
I'm not saying they have to be "in your face" but even if it's (for example) Luke's Yavin Celebration Medal hanging in his study, or the mention of the Nightsisters of Dathomir.

Something I am expecting, is someone to make fun of Han Solo's age - in the same way he made fun of old Ben Kenobi on the Death Star in ANH.

An easy tie-in to both the Prequels and TCW would be to have that ancient lightsaber-making droid teach Jedi Younglings in the background somewhere.
Quote:
"Many years I have been on this ship teaching many a Jedi before you, and I will continue teaching many a Jedi after you."

When do you think we can we expect to see the very first teaser or trailer?
December 2014? or Celebration in 2015?

Teaser? December (it's Christmas time and Disney will probably put it ahead of some of its movies). Trailer? Celebration, probably. If we get it earlier, Celebration will still get an exclusive one.

Solo, either Han or the next Gen, saying "it's not my fault"

or

That first lightsaber igniting sound, that is usually in the past when the chills set in.

I finally figured this one out. For me, it would be a cockpit shot of Hamill piloting Red 5. Classic and iconic.

Can't help adding to that really... having spent the past 30-plus years as a Star Wars fan, the last 10 or so of those years frequenting Star Wars message boards, and also not really knowing what a "casual Boba Fett lover" might actually be...

I have no burning desire to see Luke communicating with Anakin.

For me - his appearance at the end of ROTJ said something along the lines of: "Luke, you succeeded. You saved your father, he has joined with the Force, just like Yoda and Obi-Wan... And now they have brought him here to see you and set your mind at rest about this, they are going, you don't need them, you are a Jedi. Job done..."

It's closure - it just doesn't play out like "hey, now you call on us anytime, if ever you get into trouble, y'hear... Catch you later, Luke...". And even if this were the case, anything other than Ben filling that mentor role for Luke just feels dumb. That is the dynamic that was set up.

You know, there's got to be that tragedy there despite the happy ending, the sense of sacrifice. Luke was right about Anakin, and he saved him. But he had to kill the person to save his soul. If we imagine a scenario where Luke could have got to hang out with ghost Anakin - and vice versa - whenever he choses after that final scene, it just feels wrong and betrays that sense of pathos.
IMHO, at least.

And as for making the prequel-sequel "connection", I'm all for it, if it works. If it makes sense, and is a worthy narrative connection. I just can't see anything that needs connecting - hell, it's a continuation of the same nine-part story, that is connection enough.

Anakin was in the prequels, his offspring were in the, erm, original-quels, and now they are going to be in the sequels, and we just hit the ground running from there. Look, here is Coruscant, here is Tatooine (again), here is a guy in uniform that looks like some other uniform you saw before, in a spacecraft that looks a bit like that other spacecraft you saw before, saying some dialogue that you heard before... you know, it's got to step beyond those parameters and be be smarter than that now, it really has.

To be honest, pretty much everyone who mattered in the prequls is dead, and every plot point that mattered has been brought to a conclusion. There are some heroes knocking about from Episodes IV-VI, a couple of droids, and a galaxy which has, seemingly, been freed.

The Jedi Order may return, the Sith may return, the Empire may be reborn - but anything more specific than that feels like a cop out to me. (Read: Palpatine survived. Vader survived. Mace Windu recorded a holocron of great importance to future events. Something important is happening on Geonosis. Etc...)

Just my two cents on that one.

Couldn't agree more!!!

The 'fact' that Vader built Threepio, and knew R2 in the prequels, and Tatooine was where Anakin grew up etc etc annoyed the hell out of me. Felt so lazy! A universe of possibilities, and they stayed in one 'corner' with the same people.

I'd always thought that Anakin was from Tatooine;

Quote:
Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi: That's what your uncle told you. He didn't hold with your father's ideals; he felt he should've stayed here (Tatooine) and not gotten involved.

- Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope.

December 13th is another possible trailer day as its "star wars day" here in the UK with an official screening of the OT at the BFI to coincide with the "ON-SET: STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE" exhibition, as it's a lucasfilm instigated moniker it could be trailer day too :chewbacca:

^^ this is from the exhibit for anyone that's interested :monocle:

I don't see where they would be synergistic...

Hobbit would be the clear win....it'll do well, so there's exposure, and it's the right audience.

Into the woods is going to be families and women.

As far as what trailers get paired with what movies, doesn't it have a lot to do with the companies behind the movies?

Disney trailers -> Disney movies

MGM trailers -> MGM Movies

I honestly really don't know anything about how trailers get paired with movies any insight you guys can give me?

it also depends on what country you are in, the USA has strict trailer rules but here in the UK each cinema decides which trailers play with which movie!

unless there is a special request from the distributor or it is specifically advertised (like the imax previews) and asking what trailers are playing with each movie usually just gets a blank look!

Interesting. I didn't realize that.

I was in London back in July and was tempted to say "fuck the USA" and stay there.
Now I wish I had!

ha ha i'll swap with you!

trailerwise, I'm still thinking it might be a 10min IMAX preview like they did with trek and guardians, the abu dhabi stuff was shot in IMAX and was also one of the first sequences shot so they would have had more time to work on the FX

Speaking of great SW trailers: this one gave me goosebumps in theatres. The use of the word "Awakened" felt very SW in the context of this trailer.

I think it could still be real but a trailer-only shot. In other words, this shot itself would not appear in the movie.

^That, or as is often the case it could be a shot that will still undergo some tweaking.

Remember the first TPM trailer showed the Queen's ship flying to Coruscant, but the shot underwent some changes in the film (more ships, etc).

Other than what's already been said, only thing I have to add is that the quads seem to be firing in a rotating sequence rather than the two up, two down sequence they normally fire in.

Make of that what you will.

Feels exactly like a pre rendered cutscene for a videogame. Low poly Falcon model obvious overuse of lens flare.

There might be a scene like this in the trailer but I hope its not this mockup.

Say what you want about the PT, but that first reveal of Darth Maul in the trailer was a real holy shite moment.
