/clone-wars-moves-to-netflix/

Quote:
Netflix said in a news release that the new 13-epsiode season of “The Clone Wars,” would be released on March 7 and would chronicle “a rift in the Force caused by Ahsoka Tano’s departure from the Jedi Order and the growing menace of various Sith Lords and apprentices,” all with “the future of an entire galaxy hanging in the balance.”

Netflix will also begin streaming the five previous seasons of “The Clone Wars,” as well as the “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” animated feature film that began this franchise. This is the first official “Star Wars” content to appear on Netflix’s streaming service. The company is also preparing original content for 2015 featuring superheroes and villains from Marvel Studios, another part of the Disney empire.

Wonder if they'll do it all at once, or release them in a timed manner.

They are dumping them all at once. By March 7, the first 3 episodes of the Order 66 arc will have aired in Germany.

Home Video? What is this? The 1990's? ;)

They'd have to be the BluRay versions we already own.
What infuriates me, is that to get access to Netflix here in Australia, I'd have to rent a US I.P address for a small fee and then I would be able to subscribe.
For me, that isn't an option as I rarely watch television as it is.

I want the freaking BluRay - nothing compares to it.
That is until the 4k versions hit the market.

Of course, I'm still waiting for a VHS release. ;)

But no, I meant home video formats as in DVD/Blu-ray.

Not watching it in English, as intended, would seriously spoil it for me.

If it shows up, I'll pass.

Support for 4k is going to be lagging, seriously.

There are still a ton of markets that don't even have 1080p as a broadcast, much less bluray quality. I'm ready when it happens (already have the TV), but until then, meh.

Amazing. Stunning artwork. It's gonna be like getting to see it for the first time twice: once "auf Deutsch" for the gorgeous artwork and action scenes, and a second time all Netflixy with the full dialogue and extra plot twists no doubt revealed.
Watching these is fun! Imagine you didn't speak Basic ... watching in German as non-speaker is kind of like that. As if everyone in the episode is speaking Galactic Basic and so you just don't understand much more than a few names, a few words. But mostly you just ... dunno and have to infer by watching the action, like an old silent flick. And maybe just a little like Lucas when he watched the old Japanese films, feeling a bit lost but enjoying it immensely. Definitely the most beautiful artwork to date, reason enough to take a peek!

Wow, that was really sad. Even with the dub, you still get the feeling this turned into a very different show from the earliest season. I think this is one of, if not the best, story arcs of the entire show. Especially taking into account that Fives's story started out in Rookies, way back in season 1. :monocle:

Definitely. I think there was probably LOTS of amazing development planned for the last two seasons. It must be a bit of a bummer for Filoni & Co not to get the big payoff on characters and story lines that they worked in a bit at a time for years. At least Asoka got a bit of completion, and I guess the Maul stuff works in a novel. Still, I wonder what other missing bits will remain forever un-produced. But man, the quality of the art just makes me super excited about Rebels.

Just caught the three Clovis episodes on YT. (Warning: choppy video.) Another nice arc with a sad ending. I think they wanted to ramp those up towards the end of the show. Getting background on Clovis and his relationship with the Banking Clan/Muun people was nice and provided some actual reasoning for the character's actions. Would have been nice to see more of that in SW, so I hope the backstories in Rebels will become important to the plot there, too. :)

You mean Disney; not Lucas. (Again, everyone may want to take a second look at this report.)

Last November's description of the trailer proved true:

E_CHU_TA! wrote:
So, this is going around about The Clone Wars:

First of all, they revealed that this season will be entitled "The Lost Missions" and will consist of ten episodes :(. They'll air it on Disney XD (at least in Poland). Here are some highlights from the trailer, but watch out for spoilers - and sorry for my grammar again. Link to Polish version of the article below:

http://www.star-wars.pl/News/17527

We've excluded hidden spoiler text featuring the trailer highlights, but you can head over to podjazd's forum post if you want to read those spoilers.

The subtitle "The Lost Missions" is an interesting one, especially given the previews that we've already seen, including Yoda requesting Anakin's help to get him out of the Jedi Temple so he can complete a mission.

Clicking the link in podjazd's post takes you to a post on the Bastion Polskich Fanow Star Wars website featuring a report from a recent Polish fan group meeting. According to Google Translate, a Disney Poland representative attended the meeting and "revealed that the sixth season will wear the subtitle 'The Lost Missions' and will consist of 10 episodes that will be shown on the Disney XD in 2014." Hit the link for more information, but have your translator ready. However, it's worth noting that Lucasfilm's Pablo Hidalgo expressed skepticism about the ten-episode figure.

I put the information about the spoiler trailer into Google Translate:

• Trailer began by showing a dark, damp fog covered the planet - it was accompanied by the voice of Qui -Gon , saying : " You must go to the Dagobah (?) . , Where you will find your answers. " I landed there Yoda .

• Many loose scenes related to a ripe old master : in one of them walked among red , dust -covered rocks ( Korriban ? ), The second was in a dark building and ran up to him being a bit reminiscent of the Balrog from "Lord of the Rings " - consisted of smoke and fire , in another fight on the platform of a hooded figure, equipped with a red lightsaber , another presented him how to jump the airborne platforms , leading to what looked like a huge tree , located on the background of the cloudy , yellow sky , and finally , could be seen as Yoda talking with a group of representatives of a new breed - were round, white and maroon faces and golden eyes .

• Oppo Rancisis was present at the meeting of the Jedi Council .

• Members of the steel circle over Yoda and bent over him.

• One of the scenes showed a lot of ghosts (or perhaps invisible ) Jedi , taking part in the battle .

• We would certainly return to Kamino - were aiwhy , cadets in helmets , learners in front of computers , Shaak Ti also returns . Clone of another forerunner - the one who killed one of the sisters of the Jedi - thrashing about on the bed, tied to the belt , and the voices in the background said that " does not remember the day it happened ." In the longer terms, medical droid came into fives , calling it " CT -5555 " , which did not like the man who pointed out to him that the clones have names and it is important for them .

• Sidious contacted holographically with Lama Su and other Kaminoaninem , saying : " The truth of order 66 can not come to light ."

• Mother Talzin fired its green rays , and later fought with someone with a sword with a blue blade ( perhaps it was Obi -Wan ) .

• Showing new machines Separatist - a bit like aqua droids of the sections of the inkwell, but painted with red paint .

• Count Dooku will fight with two species of blue swords - they were probably Skywalker and Kenobi .

• Padme stood before the congregation Muunów , and one of them shouted : " You're under arrest ! " It also shows some new shots of the chase Emba on the ice planet.

• Mace Windu fought with giant robots.

• Showing a computer hologram displaying the silhouette of a man with black hair in a Jedi robe - was very similar to Sifo - Dyas comic book "Eyes of the revolution ."

Lucas originated / gave his blessing to the concept of these episodes, but that doesn't mean he signed-off on the name Moriband. Who's to say that it wasn't scripted as Korriban and Disney changed the name to reflect the "new" continuity? After all, Lucas doesn't have final say anymore.

Why would Disney change a name of an single planet? Or why would the "new" continuity create a new name for it unless it contradicts the sequel trilogy (which also comes from Lucas)? These type of differences always come from him, and I'm sure Filoni or someone else will eventually confirm that.

As for the name change, I had never heard either name before, so it makes no difference to me.

Maybe the LF story Group thought that KORRiban sounded too close to CORuscant??

Doesn't Disney have to pay royalties or something for characters that already existed when they bought Lucasfilm? Would that also extend to locations? If they planned to use the "Sith Homeworld" for, say, future films - wouldn't it be less costly if they made up their own name? Does anybody know how that deal works? I know Korriban was not in a film, but they ARE building a new canon - or a new death star or something - and I understand that whole effort is partly to avoid paying royalties for existing characters. I read that on the internet so it might be true.

Or someplace like that...

But would rights/royalties apply to locations? What about ships or even species ... ?

Pay to whom? Lucasfilm owns all of that and they bought Lucasfilm. Not to mention that they are currently using Korriban in The Old Republic. If there was any legal need for a new name, it would have come up long ago. I bet this is another example where they take George's views over what's established in the EU. And rightfully so.

My comments have nothing to due with licensing. They're based on this report: Characters In New Continuity Will Be 'Based On' Characters From The EU. Disney is taking existing EU characters and concepts, using similar names, and giving them their own spin. In this manner, they can use existing ideas while preserving a new continuity. In other words, the "new" place (Moriband) is like the "old" place (Korriban), but they're aren't intended to be the same thing (like onscreen Coruscant and EU Coruscant). It appears that there is no longer a Korriban. There is only a Moriband where Disney will impose a singular official narrative from this point forward.

I thought these scripts were written, and the episodes produced before Disney's purchase of LFL. All that was required was the post production work.

I don't understand why people keep insisting "Disney are changing XYZ" - isn't that what Lucasfilm's Story Group is all about?
Would Disney even know what the fuck Korriban is? They're merely the money spinners here and creativity is up to LFL, right?

Exactly. The episodes were already in production when the deal happened, so it's not like this change was made now.

I'm certain it was most likely done on purposes.

Like many things in SW, it probably has dual names, given the culture. This isn't a new concept to SciFi.

How many names does Mars have in the John Carter series?

Official synopsis from the latest Insider, via jedinews.co.uk:

Image

It's Moraband, not "Moriband".

It'sthe Five Priestesses, not "sages" - and their planet is the source of the midi-chlorians.
