Wow this is getting interesting. How is Star Wars still the most fascinating franchise in terms of hype? Star Trek? Marvel films? cast announcements, plot twists evident from day one, etc. etc. Star Wars? cryptic dispatches from "insiders" that start Spoiler Wars.

I'm more eager to see the spoiler, spy reports play out over the course of a year or two than for the actual new Episodes.

Tis true. I too look forward to the return of the spoilers that start in drips and drabs meant to appear as if they were spirited away from Lucas' own vault. I have fond memories of the MF spoiler days, this place will begin to get really going again soon.

I dislike not knowing the possible storyline. With the PT we had at least a basic idea of what was going to happen but with this there is no idea at all. I kind of hope reports are false that characters and everything are out and a completely new story is in development, unless the original story blew that hard.

Then I remember it's a December release.

The internet might explode when they release the first bit of news.

The build up towards Episode I, was one of the most memorable experiences in my life.

In those days, with my crap house old 28.8 modem, it took several hours to download the Episode I trailer, but I'll never forget the excitement, of finally being able to see footage of a brand new Star Wars film -- pure joy!

We're about to relive that moment, without archaic technology.

There were people on other boards who still wouldn't believe it right up until ROTS was released. In fact there are probably still people at :gb2tfn: who even now have a "better" theory about how and why Sidious and Palpatine cannot be the same person...

Jesse Plemons, who starred on both “Breaking Bad” and “Friday Night Lights,” is in contention for a lead role in “Star Wars: Episode VII,” multiple individuals with knowledge of the top-secret casting process have told TheWrap.

Plemons is scheduled to meet with director J.J. Abrams next week to discuss the highly anticipated sequel, which is expected to bring back original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. Plemons has already taped an audition that was well-received by those involved in the casting process, and he’ll by flying in to Los Angeles from Austin, Texas for a second audition that will bring him face-to-face with Abrams.

I just hope Arndt's script gets leaked someday. Darabont's Indy IV eventually got out.

Awesome.

I wonder what "soon" means in JJSpeak.

The Expanded Universe is dead folks. Hasbro has been directed by Lucasfilm, Ltd. .... to avoid the Expanded Universe like the plague. Not only is it next to impossible that we'll see a brand new Expanded Universe figure in the near future (we're talking years folks), older and hard to find figures will NEVER see re-release either.

Interesting news from the New York Toy Fair: Expanded Universe Fans: We're Doomed!

You may want to sell them now. Once these characters get retconed into oblivion, their sentimental value (and market value) will slowly diminish.

It makes thematic sense to remove Luke in the first movie. Every stanza rhymes and all that. If he goes out like Old Ben that puts the focus on the new generation of heroes.

Indeed. Qui-Gon dies in TPM, Obi-Wan dies in ANH, and Luke should die in VII. I have to admit that I don't like these attempts to change the original story set for Episode VII. Is there any source that states that it was Lucas who picked Arndt?

If you want to get technical about it, both elder Jedi - quigon and obi-wan - were not skywalkers but both trained skywalkers.

It just has to play out that way.

Or, a wannabe Sith at least.

I'm going to guess that Luke's demise will be a family matter. After all, there's the good Solo twin and the bad one. The bad one might intentionally or unintentionally off his uncle. With Luke's son around, the fallout would be Skywalker versus Solo (which is not a bad echo of Obi-wan versus "brother" Anakin).

Maybe bad Solo conjures [s]The Devil[/s] Darth Sidious as a means of protecting himself from the Jedi Order? Good luck with that plan.

Around 200 artists are expected to be at work at in the new Vancouver operation by summer 2014, with movies like Transformers 4, World of Warcraft and around a third of the production on Star Wars Episode VII to be done in the west coast city ahead of a scheduled Dec. 18, 2015 release.

Not a chance--it's just a repaint of this figure's head:
Hasbro Crystal Skull Indiana Jones figure

plus

this figure's body:
Hasbro ROTJ Han Solo figure

...inside the Falcon toy first produced in 2008.

I don't know where the vest is from, but the whole thing is a custom. And anyway, Hasbro hasn't been able to get paint apps that tight on their figures for years. ;)

The PT had lived-in environments, people just ignore that for JAR-JAR and CG CLONES. And bad acting, which is totally a downer environment-wise.

I would agree with you but for the May 2016 clusterfuck that already exists between Superman/Batman and Captain America 3. Disney is going to force Abrams to finish in time for that December 18, 2015 date whether he's ready or not...I'm not a money guy, but I think at this point, Disney's projections of their fiscal year are locked-in to Ep. 7 being released before the end of 2015.

Here's a thought: why make a new trilogy? Why not just make a single film (maybe a two-parter) that serves as an epilogue to the saga and a launching pad for new characters and stories that can be told in stand alone movies, occasionally bringing them together a la Marvel?

Star Wars VII: “Order Of The Jedi”??????

This is a breaking story from Movie Pilot, they ran it this afternoon without any sources, so, take all this info with a grain of salt, ok? We previously reported on the big official word from the Star Wars website about the casting, but now we have all this other stuff:

(Special thanks to Dave Turner for pointing this out to me)

- The full title of the film is ‘ Star Wars: Episode VII – The Order of the Jedi’. The film was rumoured to be called ‘A New Dawn’ but that has recently been revealed to be an ‘in-canon’ novel to be released soon.

- Oscar Winner Lupita Nyong’o is also in the cast. She will be playing a character called ‘Asajj Ventress’. Nyong’o was not officially announced in yesterdays report but was one of the first names to have signed up after Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.

- Daisy Ridley will be playing a member of the Solo Family.

- Max Von Sydow will be providing his voice only to a character that will run right through the new Trilogy.

- Luke Skywalker will be the ‘Obi Wan’ type character of the new trilogy.

- Han Solo is the High Commander of the New Republic

- Leia is now the ‘Queen Regent of the Republic’

- The Big bad is not a Sith Lord

I was going to post that I finally convinced myself of a story that might be worth making a sequel trilogy about and this title sort of matches with my thoughts.

What if the enemy wasn't the Sith but some other manifestation of the Force itself? I'm thinking Mortis-level stuff where "the Son" or something like him is the big bad. I think back to "we can destroy the Sith...and the Jedi." A desire for power and control that extends beyond the earthly desires of the Sith.

It's tough for me to buy that the Sith can return so quickly after Jedi if they hadn't returned in 1000 years prior to TPM. I could buy that the Jedi victory in ROTJ has "imbalanced" the Force and awaken something worse.
