More screen test rumors. When the dust settles, LR is either going to look foolish or golden.

They'll just say they were only reporting readings, not casting announcements.

Even if Cumberbatch doesn't end up being cast they'll say they weren't the only ones who got it wrong.

I guess this qualifies as news these days.

If a year goes by without any Episode VII news (we're almost there), then that's just BS.

Just confirmed the first signed and sealed casting. He's British, and Jedi News have already reported it TWICE!!!!!

And no, it's not Sherlock...

The actor is BBC Spook's star David Oyelowo who is due to be in Jurassic World. He was also in Red Tails, so is a Lucasfilm alumni and was recently in Lincoln for Kathleen Kennedy. REALLY, REALLY good actor and a brilliant choice. Hope he has a great role.

I am being told that not only will he be in Episode 7 but the plan is for him to also be in Rebels playing a character that sets up his Episode VII character! All part of the major EpVII co-ordinated push being pulled together by Simon Kinberg and the first major sign that Rebels will be the vehicle to setup the masses for EpVII fever!!

David Oyelowo was great in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. If this is true, then it certainly could be a good casting choice.

I'm going to assume that every who's who of Hollywood has auditioned / met filmmakers re: Episode VII.

I agree and I'm not sure it's a favorable sign. I realize that Abrams has a good record with casting films. However, I wonder if his vision for Star Wars is so pristine that it's resulting in decision making paralysis. Another possibility is that key roles are under or over-developed resulting casting confusion. Also, there may be some type of inner power struggle going on between the creative and business side which is stifling forward momentum for the production. I'm really hoping that no news for this film means secrecy or merely no significant news yet.

I've been thinking there's a paralysis by analysis thing going on here, but then I remembered it's JJ Abrams and it probably has more to do with secrecy. You're right that until we see SOMETHING, there might be a concern (fuelled by rumours of JJ departing the production) that a Disney v. Abrams rift exists and it's stunting progress.

At this point, there's absolutely no reason why they couldn't reveal that the original cast and some memorable characters are returning - they just don't want to.

I'd bet they're in the final stages of casting the Skywalker kids - in other words, the "stars" of the movie - and once that is locked down we'll get a major announcement.

It was good to hear him talk nonchalantly about all of that. And another confirmation that George started writing the treatments for 7, 8 and 9 well before the Disney sale.

I believe that Disney is a big believer in their DisneyFile system. Somewhat proprietary.

Apparently a LFL press release just went out naming JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan as Episode VII scriptwriters.

Different characters, different story completely. My first reaction was to be worried, but I have to trust the hands it is in and accept this is a good move and the script just wasn't good enough.

I'm not sure how this is even possible while still following Lucas' story treatments and when casting for the main characters has already started.

Who's to say they aren't doing a second or third draft?
Ardnt's script was based upon the outline Lucas provided, Kasdan and Abrams are polishing it up. Kasdan did the same thing with EMPIRE and we all know how that turned out.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to these bullshit artist websites, posting news to stir things up.

With the Oct. 24 exit of Star Wars: Episode VII writer Michael Arndt, the studio is under the gun to keep the film on course for a 2015 release despite a script that several insiders say isn't close to ready.

According to those close to the project, producer Kathleen Kennedy and most of the film's creative team have asked Disney to push the release to 2016, but studio CEO Robert Iger is adamant that Episode VII -- perhaps the franchise's most anticipated installment since 1999's The Phantom Menace -- not budge. That has created enormous pressure on all involved, with director J.J. Abrams stepping in to take over scripting duties with Lawrence Kasdan, who co-wrote 1980's Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, considered the best film in the series.

For his part, Arndt worked exclusively on Episode VII for most of the past year and already had penned a 40- to 50-page treatment before Lucasfilm was sold to Disney in October 2012. But as one of Hollywood's highest-paid screenwriters, who can command more than $300,000 a week doing rewrites, the Oscar-winning scribe (Little Miss Sunshine) was ready to move on to other projects.

Some sources say Abrams has become autocratic in recent months, wresting some casting control from Kennedy. But others disputed that notion, saying Abrams and Kennedy both have been involved in casting sessions. Unlike Kennedy, Abrams is said to be more in sync with Iger's desire to meet the 2015 release target -- which allows zero margin for error -- at all costs.

Although the 2015 schedule already is full of tentpoles including Disney/Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Warner Bros.' Superman-Batman mashup and Lionsgate's final Hunger Games, Iger has crafted a Star Wars game plan that hinges on Episode VII hitting the big screen that summer. The studio is expected to roll out Episodes VII, VIII and IX over a six-year period, with at least two spinoffs -- penned by a team including Kasdan and Simon Kinberg -- interspersed between.

Still, another project insider dismisses talk of problems and what the writer shuffle means for what is perhaps Hollywood's most valued franchise. "It's nothing out of the ordinary," says the insider. "Almost every big movie changes writers at some point. There's no drama here."

Well this is new.

Until now, we've been told that Lucas created the treatments, then sold the whole thing to Disney, then they hired Arndt.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Wonder if these descriptions are an indication for the era the first film will portray. The first (chronological) trilogy featured characters from relative high-class society, the second trilogy featured characters from the working class, will the third trilogy focus on people from poor neighbourhoods/slums? The aftermath of Endor being a lot harder on people throughout the galaxy than the EU portrayed?

Release date announced:

December 18, 2015.

Release: http://starwars.com/news/star-wars-epis ... -2015.html

Looks like the May release date we all knew and loved went with George. Can't say this is a surprise, considering the clusterfuck that has been the beginning stages of production for Ep. 7 thus far.

Same date as the World of Warcraft movie. Guess they'll have to get out of the way!

We can also start narrowing down who actually has trustworthy sources on the production. Devin Faraci over at badassdisget.com was the first to report on a Dec release date way back in August.

I don't know how much credit I'd give Faraci for "reporting" a December release. Episode VII is a tent pole released by a studio that knows how to release tent pole flicks; it was either going to be summer or the holidays.

I'm not sure how it's been a "clusterfuck."
None of what we've heard sounds that different from the development and pre-production of anything else.

No, it's a family movie....

and competition for Disney's other blockbuster, Avengers 2. so now, Disney will own May and December.
