Interesting how quickly Lucasfilm reacted to the 'leak.'
5 films now.
Stunning.

This is still surreal. The best we had to look forward to was an unproduceable TV series only a few months ago.

STAR WARS: YODA

I have to say I feel pretty mixed on the idea of these "solo" Star Wars adventures. They have a very "Wolverine" feel to them and I expect that they'll be handed off to second-rate directors like Brett Ratner and Joe Johnston. I think it'll cheapen the brand.

I also think that these spin-offs are going to destroy all the mystery of our favourite characters. Sometimes the best part of being a Star Wars fan is imagining Yoda's early adventures. I don't want to literally re-live Yoda's early upbringing on screen.

Iger spoke to NBC today and...

Confirmed:
• Kasdan and Kinberg working on the non-saga films. Plural.
• Kasdan - a consultant on Episode VII
• Stand-alone films will be released DURING the period that Episodes VII-IX will be produced.

He stated that "starting in 2015" this will occur over a six year period, sort of confirming that Episodes will be separated by 3 years a piece and re-iterating Disney's intention for Episode VII to be released in 2015.

Yoda and Yaddle travel the galaxy in their starship Green One, purposefully avoiding adventure and excitement. Could this be the Zach Snyder project? In any context, the main thing I would want to see is a well written story that takes the characters seriously and perhaps develops them a bit.

I think Kathleen Kennedy will do right in the end, though I would rather see Joe Johnston's Boba Fett made first.

I still wonder if by "stand alone films," do they mean cinematic releases or do they mean series like The Clone Wars, which began with a theatrically released pilot episode, or "movie." Or do they even know yet, since this is still fairly early in development? :?

Indeed. And what about that live-action series? Is that a part of the spin-offs now? Or will it still happen somewhere down the line?

The usage and prominence of the phrase "in a call to investors" perfectly captures my ambivalent feelings about this whole thing.

Creative ideas are not the driving force behind all this. Reimbursing investors is.

STAR WARS Spin-Off's Are NOT Confirmed Just Yet; Disney "Kicking Around Ideas"

I figured this was the case. It's all simply in an early idea/development phase, which is fine by me. They need to take their time, focus on Eps.7, 8 and 9, and do these spin-offs whenever.

Lawrence Kasdan And Simon Kinberg Talk STAR WARS: EPISODE VII And Stand Alone Films

In a lengthy interview with IGN, screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg talk about their roles within Disney's new Star Wars films. It was recently confirmed that they will be writing two separate character spin-offs, and that they will be consulting on Episode VII, which will be written by Michael Ardnt and directed by J.J. Abrams. Both say that their landing the jobs came from a meeting with Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy last fall. Below, Kasdan comments on working on the franchise yet again, while both share their thoughts on sheep, rumors, characters, and more. Star Wars: Episode VII is targeting a 2015 release...

I think JJ Abrams is already making his mark on the culture of the crew. We're not going to get much information from folks involved in the show.

A whole movie with Yoda as the protagonist?
Headache-inducing, 90 minutes of backwards speak may be... unless grains of philosophy reintroduce they are able to...

Isn't this what Harry has done for years? Thrown out 300 thoeries about what may happen from his fan boy brain, an when 1 of those 300 comes true, we get the:

HA! I WAS RIGHT! BATHE IN MY GLORY!

An interview with spinoff writer Simon Kinberg was posted last Saturday. Choice quote: "(W)hen I was a kid, I wanted to be Han Solo."

It is definitely the best part of the interview. I guess if I was interviewing someone hired to write a standalone Star Wars movie, I'd go out of my way to avoid asking him which character(s) it will be about or any other relevant info. I think more people are probably interested in who the writer's favorite character is. That's a lot more interesting.
