And the first non-Episode Star Wars Film Will Be...

STAR WARS: YODA

I have to say I feel pretty mixed on the idea of these "solo" Star Wars adventures. They have a very "Wolverine" feel to them and I expect that they'll be handed off to second-rate directors like Brett Ratner and Joe Johnston. I think it'll cheapen the brand.

I also think that these spin-offs are going to destroy all the mystery of our favourite characters. Sometimes the best part of being a Star Wars fan is imagining Yoda's early adventures. I don't want to literally re-live Yoda's early upbringing on screen.

Yoda and Yaddle travel the galaxy in their starship Green One, purposefully avoiding adventure and excitement. Could this be the Zach Snyder project? In any context, the main thing I would want to see is a well written story that takes the characters seriously and perhaps develops them a bit.

I think Kathleen Kennedy will do right in the end, though I would rather see Joe Johnston's Boba Fett made first.

Fuck Harry Knowles.

And I enjoyed him using the wrong version of the word "here" in that story. Hey Harry, 3rd grade called, they said you failed your English test.

From whence did Harry Buttmunch get this scoop? It's not clear from the AICN link.

I like the idea of a Clone Warsesque young Yoda TV series, but a stand-alone cinematic film? Dubious, I am. :?

I call all that BS. Lucas always forbode anyone to explore Yoda's past. I'm sure that was one of the exceptions made when he handed the franchise for Disney to explore.

Hmmmmm... Now, let's chase after YODA details... Where's FRANK OZ? Giggle. Gotta love chasing STAR WARS stories!

Though he's tried to pass off his ADD tween girl/mental patient writing style as evidence of his "geek™ enthusiasm and authenticity", it's just sort of depressing to think that he's been at this for over 15 years and has never improved. Giggle.

No word on what character(s) they'll be focusing on, but Bob Iger confirmed Kasdan and Kinberg are working on spinoff films:

Quote:
Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed for investors that his company has lined up Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg to work on stand-alone Star Wars movies. Disney acquired Lucasfilm in a $4.05 billion transaction last year.

As THR first reported, Kasdan and Kinberg are working on separate films that will serve as spinoffs of the main new trilogy. Iger told CNBC that the pair are "working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga, so we still plan to make Star Wars VII, VIII and IX roughtly over a six year period of time starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time, too."
