Terrific cinematography, epic-sounding John Williams score. This looks like pure magic.

Looks lovely. A friend of mine saw the play and said it was truly a magical piece of live theatre. I hope Spielberg doesn't turn it into Spielbergian kitsch.

If it's as good as the "Black Stallion" movies, it could become interesting, but I have a feeling it's one of those films with too much drama, like a sensitive girl movie....though it's Spielberg anyway, having seen the trailer it could still go either way.

I think this is the type of movie that Spielberg knocks out of the park. Since Saving Private Ryan, his forte has really been historical dramas as opposed to summer popcorn fare (with the exception of Minority Report, which wasn't traditional blockbuster material either).

Aside from Minority Report his best movies of the past decade were, in my opinion, Catch Me If You Can and Munich: both historical dramas. He almost seems out of his 'new' element directing action/adventure movies. I believe he admitted as much when he was working on Indy 4.

Hell, Catch Me If You Can is my favorite movie of the 2000s thus far.

Really, really looking forward to seeing and especially hearing this one.

This was pretty magical. I had doubts how they'd pull off a movie like this given that horses don't really emote. Whatever. Good overall movie. They accomplished a lot with a horse. But they spoiled all the best music and most of the best shots in the trailer.

This is almost a square tie with Tintin for me, with Tintin pulling ahead just barely due to a faster pace and slightly more impressive visuals.

Still, if I were the author of two films like these, I'd be really proud.

I finally saw this, and wow I was really blown away. I was afraid it was going to be Spielberg at his cheesy, sappy worst, but I was really pulled in and was very emotionally involved in this film. It's like the closest thing he's done to a foreign film, without subtitles.

Definitely a must-see.

[s]Figure I'd post this where it's more visible:

Lookin' for John Williams' War Horse soundtrack. Preferably in 320kbps MP3 format. Anyone got it?

Thanks![/s]

Finally, finally saw it.

It was everything I hoped it would be. A magical film that isn't getting the credit it's due. Spielberg's success is being pitted against him on this one: if it were directed by anyone but him we'd be hearing about how it's one of the best films of the year. Instead it's sitting with a mediocre Rotten Tomatoes score and is getting too much cynical panning.

Anyway, it was excellent.
