General Krell orders Captain Rex and the clone troopers of the 501st Legion to conquer a heavily fortified Umbaran airbase, and will not accept anything less than victory. It is an almost certain suicide mission, unless the clones can use their ingenuity to defeat their new enemy.
I really enjoyed this episode. I thought that the action sequences were well-paced and inventive and that the characterization of the Clones was fun and engaging. Maybe Walter Murch should guest direct more episodes?
I was surprised and unnerved to see “Sergeant” Appo make an appearance. Since Appo is clone commander of the 501st during ROTS, his inclusion is like an appearance of the grim reaper for Rex. If Rex is killed during this campaign, the remaining troops are blasting Krell for sure.
To me, a deadly mutiny would be a nice parallel to the Tusken slaughter in AOTC. With that event, Anakin’s positive love for his mother turned to hate and violence towards others. Here, the trooper’s positive affinity and loyalty for their captain would cause them to break military code and murder a superior. Plus, Rex’s loss would put Anakin in a tizzy because, once again, he wasn’t there to save someone he cared about.

Very good episode, loved the use of Han's classic line "Id prefer a straight fight to all this sneekin around!".
The animation seems to have jumped massively in this 4th season. While watching this through with my kids, the close quarters combat scenes reminded me of Saving Private Ryan & Band of Brothers, not sure why, it just did.
It looks like this is going to beat my all time favourite arc (Malevolence). Its nice to get back into the thick of things after the fun episodes with the droids. Looking forward to next week’s episode already.
I don't see Rex dying any time soon, but maybe in future episodes or seasons. As for the above discussion on the clones turning on Krell. I can see it happening, but I always thought the Order 66 was a switch for the clones? Until then, the clones were bred to follow orders willingly, but even that concept has been contradicted since AOTC.
It was cool to see the introduction of Sergeant Appo and I wonder how or when he'll become a commander? Speaking of commanders, who is the 501st commander currently? I personally think there are more than 1 since the 501st had 2 after the war, Commander Appo and Commander Vill.
Fives has definitely become my favorite clone character and he is the true representation of an ARC Trooper that we've been waiting for. The debut of the ARC Troopers in Season Three was highly disappointed since it felt like the title and image of the ARC Troopers was nothing more than a war propaganda for the clone cadets. In this arc, Fives has done and said some things that is ARC Trooper worthy such as that small talk with Rex in this episode. He definitely questions his commanding officer, which is awesome.

I know we're only half way through this arc, but I feel that this is quite possibly the best Star Wars entertainment we've been given, in a long, long time. I am really enjoying the humanization of the Clone Troopers and Krell's polar-opposite personality (to that of the Jedi) is very interesting to sit back and watch.
I would be thrilled if Walter Murch could have a hand in the LATV Series and bring the same class to that, as he has to The Clone Wars.

This arc is visually incredible. Very entertaining and appropriately moody.
I really hope they kill Krell. I hope the fire in his eyes is foreshadowing that he's a traitor - he literally acts more like a Sith than a Jedi. Makes no sense to me how he could be a legit Jedi Knight.

I think Krell will get it by the end of the story arc, he reminds me of the ball-breaker drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket.
I suppose it would be dull & boring if all the Jedi were like Obi-wan & Anakin towards the clones. Some were/are probably dead set against the clones. To quote Mace Windu "We're keepers of the peace, not soldiers." I would think that some of the Jedi would totally resent the fact that they have to go to war.

Do I think Krell is a good character? Yes. Do I think we needed Jedi with more personality in the prequels? Yes.
This isn't the point. George wrote the Jedi in the prequels as these infallible Force-worshipping monks. There's literally not one Jedi - either in the movies or in the Clone Wars up until Krell - who has shown the kind of dispassionate reckless persona that characterizes Krell. Hell by the Jedi's standards ANAKIN is out of line most of the time and he's a fucking choir boy compared to this douche.
As a result, Krell's character is so out of left field that it doesn't make sense for us - the audience - to believe that this guy belongs as a Jedi. You can't re-write the rules as you go along or else you lose the audience's suspension of disbelief.
Have I enjoyed this story-arc? Again - yes. But I don't - hell, I can't - believe in Krell as a Jedi for a second.
With the PT, three Jedi were established as being offbeat – Dooku, Anakin, and Qui-Gon. The first two show a tendency towards the Dark Side, but Qui-gon provides some wiggle room.
As a whole, I don’t think that Krell’s insular attitude is far off from Qui-gon’s views. Had he lived, Qui-gon would have continued to train Anakin against the command of The Council. Both Krell and Qui-Gon are certain that their standpoint is best. Therefore, they believe the ends justify the means.
My 6 year old turned to me after that shot of Krell's eyes lookin' all sithy-like and said "He's a Sith!". Not a question, but a plain statement. I tend to agree - maybe we're going to see something akin to the lost 20? But no way is he coming out of this a Jedi.
If there was any intention that Krell was anything other than evil at his core, we would have had some of his plans succeeding, instead of wasting Clones. There would have had to be some balance to the asshole nature of the character with actually getting results. Now? He's a total dick with no redeeming qualities - ergo he's a bad guy fo' shizzle.
Anyways, great arc this is turning into, although E Chu Ta, your original idea was perfect and should have been the way the thing played out. It hits all the right notes and plays with that rhyming thematic device Lucas likes so much. Too bad it's probably too smart for Lucasfilm though.
From Fives & Hardcase carjacking the Tron Trooper's ships to the Battle Of The Planet -esque villain mechs - this arc is one tied along for my other favorite the Savage Trilogy as the best of the series.
