Star Wars 'Squishies' Animated Series
I've seen this being posted around the past few days. George Lucas is to be working on an animated TV show aimed at a younger demographic than Clone Wars. It would be styled around the Galactic Heroes toy line, similar to what Hasbro has done with the Superhero Squad. Given his love of the TV medium, and Lucasfilm's stated realization that Star Wars fans are 'generational,' I actually find this concept to be plausible. George has also made several comments in the last year (I can't find a source at the moment or I provide a link) that he is working on another TV project that is not the live action series.

@starwars also RT'ed a link to the story last week so I gotta believe it's legit.
I know a lot of people are complaining about this series (sight unseen) or even Lucas' intentions but you have to remember this is just one part of what Star Wars is. I've never read any of the novels or comic books, have only seen a couple episodes of "Clone Wars" and really couldn't care less about the earlier "Droids" and "Ewoks" cartoons but my excitement for the films hasn't diminished. It's just another entry point for new fans to become interested in the saga as a whole. |

"There are so many stories taking place in the Star Wars universe, and they don't all have to focus on the fate of the galaxy," said Grimes. "We're looking at Star Wars from a new perspective; this will be a glimpse at how the rest of the galaxy is affected by the events of the Saga. There's a lot of humor to be mined from that."
"The Star Wars universe is so dense and rich; it's crazy to think that there aren't normal, mundane everyday problems in a world so well-defined," said Green. "And it's even crazier to think of what those problems might be, since it's all set in a galaxy far, far away. What do these characters do when they're not overthrowing Empires?"
The entire two-paragraph statement is more clear. Also this three-year old LucasFilm Spy Report 2007 couldn't have been more accurate:
| Quote: | | • A second animated show will be aimed at 6 year olds. |
At least with comedic sketches - Original Trilogy characters can be used. Having Robot Chicken's Seth Green as producer is reassuring given that he is a fan that produced quality stuff before.

I thought that was the focus of the live action series? |

Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet @ "Chicago Convention C2E2" recently confirmed that the internal codename was "Squishies" - that it was the second Star Wars series and said it's not a sitcom but more like the Simpsons and Robot Chicken. (listen @ ForceCast).
During a Q&A a fan asked if we would see post Return Of The Jedi adventures and so-called news sites twisted it into a sequel series. Below in an interview with Variety, Seth Green said an announcement was made was to stop Internet rumors.

Seth Green: "Let us assure you this isn't going to suck as much as you think it is."
Robot Chicken creator/exec producer Matt Senreich, admitted the announcement was made only to quash rampant rumors: "We're trying to get ahead of it and say what it's not" and said it will be a story comedy and "character driven." It may include crossover appearances from the movie characters.
Senreich promised, "We're on the same page as the fans, because we are fans."
Seth Green concurred: "We're not talking about Jar-Jar electrocuting his tongue. It's not that kind of humor. If George (Lucas) would have wanted to make that version of 'Star Wars,' he would have hired other people to do it."

| So, were the "Squishies" reports inaccurate? |

Seth Green commenting on the Second Star Wars Series at this year's MTV Movie Awards.
moviesblog.mtv.com
• "It's gonna be CG animation, it's gonna be really funny and it's gonna be 'Star Wars' in a way you've never seen it"
• "There are some recognizable characters but it's a huge universe, so we're really going where all the comedy is."
• "Timeline - I don't think anybody is really talking about that yet. But it's not post-Return of the Jedi." |

While Lucas was making a parody out of Darth Vader at the Scream awards, Howard Roffman revealed that Star Wars Squishies will be on air within two years. He also 'hinted that a totally new Star Wars live action TV series was under consideration for the future'.
